I voted to keep Carlo.
Yes, he's not perfect, but no one is. No matter who replaces him, there will be gripes about that person too. I do believe Carlo is one of the top few coaches in the world and has achieved success at Milan. Not every season and perhaps not in Serie A for a while, but the CL trophies are nothing to sneer at. Lastly, the players seem to adore him for the most part. Overall, I don't see a problem with him finishing out his contract. |

And you know, it's difficult to justify sacking Carlo now esp. now that the injured players are back and Milan is playing so well.
Whether it is REALLY injury that costs Milan the season, we can NEVER tell (and I'll be honest with you: I do think injury plays a huge role). Having said, such natural 'experiment' (pre-injury, injury, post-injury) throughout the year is quite a strong evidence that Milan is hampered severely by injury this season (with good - poor - good patterns that corroborates with the injury pattern). Just my two cents, of course; mrki won't agree I know lol . |

Well I think it's to late to sack Carlo anyways. If we should've sacked him it should've been after the CL victory or at the latest last summer. This year could've been a rebuilding year, so that we could come back strong next year in CL, but now it's to late.
I don't think it would make sense to sack Carlo at this time when we're looking to be back in the CL. He's proven that he's at least good in the Champions League. Still though, if a super coach somewhere came around, I wouldn't mind him at Milan And no, that doesn't include Van Basten or even Rijkaard. |

I'll tell you another reason why Carlo is still manager at Milan. THat's because there is no one else out there who fits the bill. Remember how short Terim's reign was, at least compared to the hopeless Zacheroni? He was sacked because Carlo was available and was ready to take up another offer (was it Parma?), this was why. At the moment, there is no one I can think of who is an "automatic" choice for Milan. Promising Italian coaches from lesser sides will always be just that--no guarantee of success. Rijaard is still not seasoned in the Italian game (at least as a coach) and really, his Barca side may have won everyting even without a coach, yes they were that talented. Gullit IMO is a flop as coach, he flopped everywhere he went. MVB--too young, too early for a big club. Donadoni, suited to Napoli or Torino, not MIlan. Which does not leave us with too many options, does it? Unless Hiddink has a fight with Abramovich and leaves Russia/Chelsea or something

I think ACM should appoint me as their coach. First, because atleast I know that Ronaldinho, Gourcoff and Antonini are better than Seedorf, Ambrosini and Favalli
Second, I won't go with a defensive formation aganit the bottom half teams of Serie-A and will win all the matches against them, because that is the reason why ACM is 7 points beahind Inter ![]()

Zeekay, even if Galliani and co were insane, they won't appoint you as coach. Your only chance is if you buy the club altogether, whaddya say?

There are no automatic choices available at the moment, but we're in the process of rebuilding and there are plenty of candidates that are showing they have great potential. Spalletti and Prandelli would be obvious choices to attempt to go for as both have shown they are good managers. Spalletti this season has had a horrid season, but with the club's internal problems he's not the only problem there. Prior to this season, he had Roma playing some of the best football in Italy, and has learnt a lot in the European level. Let's also not dismiss the fact that Spalletti has more often than not got the better of Carlo when we face Roma. Though not my first choice, he's still a candidate. Prandelli is an excellent manager who has a great ability to get great results from his players. His attacking brand of football would be well suited to our game, and he really shows the potential to manage a top club. Considering Fiorentina aren't the greatest club still and yet he's got them to a level to challenge for CL every season, I certainly don't see why or how he'd be particularly worse than Carlo. Then there are the new names, Allegri and Gasperini. Allegri has shown great potential with Cagliari. He's got the side organised and they have a good approach to the game. I've not seen enough to make a firm judgement on him, but certainly he's an upcoming manager in Serie A. Finally, Gasperini is the manager that's impressed me the most this season. His hard pressing attacking game is really impressive. However, what's just as impressive is that he's got Genoa's defence really well organised, and to me there's no shock they have the third best defence in Serie A. On top he's utilising every member of his squad superbly. Considering he's working with a very average squad, his achievements are nothing short of outstanding and his approach to the game have won over quite a few fans. In all fairness, our 3 most successful managers in the last 30 years didn't have particularly great credentials before taking over the side. Sacchi was pretty much unknown before being put in charge, and Cappello didn't have the credentials he has now when he took over. Carlo, before joining was relatively successful at Parma and his time at Juve was considered a failure. So on paper, none of these three "fit the bill" when they joined Milan. |

- Pirlo and Beckham in the middle like you said ... - What changed is also a healthy Kaka' who seems to be able to run again, to dribble, to pass and to score ... - You also have Inzaghi who, like each year, is back in form when Spring days are back. So, that's just 4 key players added + a "true" defence (they are solid even if we don't really play with the players expected at the start of the season). Nothing important of course ... - Oh and I missed someone, you also have Flamini who is now able to play in the team (he had 3-4 difficult first months) in any position. PS: And we still miss Gattuso, Nesta and Borriello who should have given even more solutions and rotation ... |

Yes the defence had a few issues here and there, but guys like Favalli showed early on they weren't bad in CB. Bonera was generally doing ok until his injuries started. What annoys me is Carlo still tried to use Kaladze everytime he was available, despite the fact Kala clearly having a season which no one wants to see again. If Carlo hadn't tried inserting Kaladze in all the time, we'd have generally stuck with a CB partnership of Maldini - Favalli or Maldini - Bonera, both of which have had reasonable success over the season or in the last couple of seasons. We didn't need to keep changing as much as we did. Maldini and Favalli have never been out for a long period of time this season. Pirlo wasn't missed a great deal as in the end we found suitable replacements, and Beckham came into replace Rino, who was amazing before getting injured. Therefore, there's no real plausible reason as to why missing these guys was a huge problem compared to now, as we did have alternatives. Kaka before getting injured in mid season was actually in reasonable shape for the first half of the season. His biggest problem was clearly he was struggling to play with Dinho. Despite the struggles of other players, we accomodated Dinho on the left to the detriment of others, which to me isn't a problem of injuries, but tactics. Inzaghi for me isn't a big issue. Yes he's doing great, but as I pointed out in the Pato thread, Pato is very capable as the leading striker. Then there's Flamini. Yes he struggled in the first half of the season, but surely we could have used him more. It was only until Ambro (who didn't deserve a starting spot until the last few weeks) and Rino were both out did we start using Flamini. What my argument really is (and was in my last post), is that our squad right now isn't in much better shape than it was earlier this season. For me, we were always capable of getting the performances we're getting now, but we didn't use what we had effectively until just recently. Instead, we kept playing out of form players like Kaladze and Ambro, and didn't use extremely useful players like Flamini. Nor did we make the necessary changes to get the best out of players like Kaka and Pato. |

I wish to add with the above that although now we still have key players injured like before, We are ONLY playing one competitive match every week, so by keeping the same base formation we still can get results and play good football as we are. But when you are playing 2 or more competitive matches every week, the story is DIFFERENT, it is here when you suffer the most, and it is here where we lost the silverware. I believe that the reason for loosing the Silverware was not the coach but the lack of players available in the most needed time. Last edited by Maltese Charlie; 08-05-2009 at 07:10.
