Sorry for the double post

Jankulovski spoils Sokratis move
Saturday 10 July, 2010
It’s reported that Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ transfer to Milan collapsed because Marek Jankulovski rejected Genoa.

According to Italia 7 Gold, negotiations were at an advanced stage and ready for completion.

Greek international defender Papastathopoulos was lining up his move away from Genoa towards San Siro.

However, the deal collapsed because Jankulovski turned down the switch to Genoa in exchange.

The 33-year-old Czech full-back had also rejected a move to Inter in January and is heading for his sixth consecutive campaign at Milan.

-----

I have seen this guy a few times, and he is pretty good. Strong, aggresive, quick, good on the ball, clever, can play at rightback too from what I have seen. Kind of like a David Luiz type player. Interesting thing is, whenever I saw him I always thoguht he was above 30 - he doesn't look young. I have just checked and he is only 22. Looking back at the games I have seen, his game is much more mature than his age.

Shame the signing fell through - Come on Genoa, what wrong with you? Take one of our 'Champions'

I really like Fucile, can play at both LB & RB, even CB when needed. And he will not cost us the Non EU spot (Italian second)

Okay, so better not winning champions league AND serie a than winning serie a and NOT winning champions league? I'll take ibra for us to win the league, something that we cannot do today, don't even talk about that too-far CL.

I wholeheartedly agree. Beggers can't be choosers. With our budget, we are lucky if we can get a guy at Ibrahimovic's level. Sure, he has his flaws, but who doesnt? And if a perfect player truly exist, why would be want to play for Milan?

Why should we get Ibra? He (with his 'weaknesses': expensive, old for the next couple of years, anti-CL games) is just not suitable with our condition right now.

If Milan can get Ibra, it is a first step toward rebuilding. Yes he is 29 and says he still has 4 good yes in him. In these 4 hrs Milan can really focus on Youth while still manage to get into CL due to the weak Serie A with Ibra.

I'd also tend to say about Ibra that even if he has failed in CL so far, he has probably matured and this experience in Barcelona will make him eager to show what he is worth again ... so it could be a kind of "career launcher" for him (I mean, he could become great in CL for example all suddenly, it's just about confidence: look at the career of Toni, of Forlan, etc).

If there is no player from our team involved in the deal, I'm all for Ibra to come in Milan (even if in my head, I'll always see Ibra as a former Juventus and Inter player).

An Ibra-Pato attacking line, well supported (or not, as Ibra could be there to distribute the balls to Pato who would turn around him) could be destructive, and with Borriello and maybe Huntelaar as subs, we would have an amazing attacking line for both Serie A and CL.

Apparently now we are giving an option on Pato to Barca to tempt them into giving us Ibra (doesn't say how much) not including him in a deal. But when Milan eventually think of selling him on then Barca will have first Refusal.

Isn't it sad that its now a fore gone conclusion that Pato will be sold , I mean we knew that he would be but to let it be public knowledge is kinda sad IMO...and pathetic. I know aswell that we will probably not see the best of Pato in a Milan shirt he has 4 year's left on his contract and Id think he'll move on in 2 .

He may need to move on if he wants to start winning trophies while I don't think we'll be relegated I also cannot see us challenging for the scuddetto or CL , not with Ibra anyway .If Ibra arrives we still need those wingbacks we talk about , box to box mid and a creative midfielder...and maybe a solid confidence inspiring keeper.

Ibra - Pato-Borr-Hunter does look great , on paper but if 30 million will be spent on 1 player its clear that no1 else will come in and i'll be a bit sceptical about success . So I would prefer to spend 10 million on 3 very good players or 15 million on 2 or 30 million on someone other than Ibra.

But they way our funds are and the way mgt is thinking nowadays id really think that while 30 million over however would be spent on Ibra but not on anyone else. And the one thing that does worry me is Ibra can do some amazing things he also can go missing , he isnt the quickest guy and do we really want Ibra leading our attack until he is 33 or 34 with Pato gone ???...and then there will be the obligatory 2 year extension when he is 34.

Or he could just be another big name player who moves after the age of 28 and doesn't show his new club anywhere near what they expected i.e. Shevchenko, Rivaldo, Ronaldhinio, Henry, and to some extent Etoo.

I don't agree. For a striker normally their peak will be only until 31 years old. His price should be still so high and IMO for our current situation it is a waste paying 35 millions only for a striker that can we used optimally for 2-3 years. I would better reinforce our offensive midfield and still believe in Bori & Huntelaar until we have found the optimal option for our striker.

What can the club do ?
I mean, did you read what Pato said ?

He said that he wanted to respect his contract in Milan, and that he would like to end his career in International, his club of heart.
While the comments of the journalist were that the fans should calm down and relax as Pato will remain in Milan, when I read that, I just see a player who'll play for Milan for 2-3 more years (his contract ends in 2014), I see no intention to stay for a too long time here (actually, I don't know a lot of star players who stayed in their initial or second club until the end of their career) and when you add that to some quotes (Premier League would be interesting, etc), I just see a player considering Milan like a first step in Europe.

So Pato will leave, it's sure, not this year, but maybe in 2 or 3 years (before the end of his contract): we should try to use him properly right now, make his value increase, and why not using him undirectly in deals (an Ibra-Pato swap would be stupid, giving an option to Barcelona to buy Pato next season to have Ibra would be stupid, we need Pato to stay for at least 2-3 years, but if we give a 40M option to Barcelona for 2013 to get Ibra cheaply, it's worth doing it, and you never know, maybe in 3 years, Barcelona won't have enough money to buy Pato and we will manage to keep him one or two more years) to get players as we know he will leave someday.

Ronaldo played in PSV, Barcelona, Inter, Real Madrid and Milan in Europe. Ronaldinho played in Paris, Barcelona and Milan (and maybe somewhere else soon) in Europe.
I just use two of the best Brazilian players of late as examples, but it would be easy to do the same with 99% of the other South American (as a whole, not only Brazilian) players when they come in Europe. The last quote of Pato just made me remember that we shouldn't forget that these players firstly played in their country and their real club is there. In Europe, for most of them, the clubs are just a step in the career.

It's why I don't believe we will have both Thiago Silva and Pato in our club in 2015 for example.

PS: The same can be said about European players, for example, a French player going to England won't play in the same club forever.

Im not saying never sell Geo Im stating why it make it public knowledge ??? UTD were never going to keep Ronaldo but they never made it known he would be leaving , Its just sad that its common knowledge that Pato will be here play 4 or 5 years learn off of great players maybe become one of the best players around at 24 and be sold as soon as it happens. Its the workings of a small club like Benfica Porto Genoa Napoli....not a tiny club But not something That I ever would of Thought Milan would be doing....and I think it is sad.
