Bill Ward - Sixty Minutte Man
Everyone's feeling pretty It's hotter than July Though the world's full of problems They couldn't touch us even if they tried From the park I hear rhythms Marley's hot on the box Tonight there will be a party On the corner at the end of the block Didn't know you Would be jammin' until the break of dawn I bet nobody ever told you that you would be jammin' until the break of dawn You would be jammin' and jammin' and jammin', jam on |

Elvis Castello - "Watching the Detectives"
Just listening to this song now I, I will be king And you, you will be queen Though nothing will drive them awaqy We can beat them, just for one day ....... And you, you can be mean And I, I'll drink all the time 'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact Yes we're lovers, and that is that Though nothing, will keep us together We could steal time, just for one day ....... What d'you say? I, I wish you could swim Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim Though nothing, nothing will keep us together We can beat them, for ever and ever "

One I'm listening to right now... And the battle's just begun There's many lost, but tell me who has won The trench is dug within our hearts And mother's children, brothers, sisters torn apart |

Ok, Google is my friend. Notorious BIG featuring R Kelly. The title will get censored though....:p
Maybe we should have a new rule, that if after 24 hours no-ones guessed the answer then the person has to give clues.... Here's one: 'Put on your almond rocks and daisy roots Brush your Hemstead Heath and wear your whistle and flute Lots and lah-de-dah's and cockneys here So hurry up and get out of here Get your skates on, mate Get your skates on, mate No bib around your Gregory Peck today, hey! Drop your plates of meat right up on the seat' If you want a clue....think a classic film, currently having a ham fisted Hollywood remake. |

The Self-Preservation Society song from "The Italian Job".
My sister's boss is a hairdresser from the East End (apparently in the early 60s this was considered a manly profession along the lines of haberdashery) and whan he gets going with the goofy slang, he sounds just like that song (most of the time he sounds just like Austin Powers becuase he's 'poshing it up'). Speaking of British... I never thought it would happen With me and the girl from Clapham Out on the windy common That night I ain't forgotten When she dealt out the rations With some or other passions I said, "you are lady" "Perhaps," she said, " I may be" We moved into a basement With thoughts of our engagement We stayed in by the telly, allthough the room was smelly We spent our time just kissing Though the railway arms were missing But love it got us hooked up And all the time it took up I got a job with Stanley He said I'd come in handy And started me on Monday So I had a bath on Sunday I worked eleven hours And bought the girl some flowers She said she'd seen a doctor And nothing now could stop her I worked all through the winter Though the weather was bitter I put away a tenner each week to make her better And when the time was ready We had to sell the telly Late evenings by the fire And little kicks inside her This morning at four fifty I took her, rather nifty, Down to a naked baiter And thirty minutes later She gave birth to a daughter Within a year, a walker, She looked just like her mother If there could be another And now she's two years older Her mother's with a soldier She left me when my drinking Became a proper stand-in The devil came and took me From bar to street to bookie No more nights by the telly No more nights, nappies smelling Alone here in the kitchen I feel there's something missing I beg for some forgiveness But begging's not my business And she won't write a letter Allthough I always tell her And so it's my assumption I'm really up the junction. Just going OT....I happen to think Cockney Rhyming Slang is pretty cool. I mean, I love the way those guys talk in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Oh, and you guys realise that I will petition Tony Blair to declare war on Hollywood if they mess up the Italian Job, with nukes and all the rest. I mean....it's set in Los Angeles! How Italian is that....grrrrrrr. And what about Michael Caines great line 'Your only supposed to blow the bloody doors off'. How can Marky Mark possibly say that? Me is unhappy. Rant Over....for the time being ![]() |

Set in LA?!!?
The commercials (which are on TV here every 10 minutes now) make it look like "Europe" (a fascinating fairy tale like world of Hollywood's creation) --a lot of alp-like mountains and Cooper's Minis driving along narrow cobbled roads-- is the setting. I'll have to look closer next time one is on...should be about two minutes. RIO

That's what I heard, it's mostly based in LA. I've seen pictures allegedly from the movie with more that a few American muscle cars. Maybe it isn't a remake but a sequel of sorts, so the bit in the mountians happens at the start of the movie.....maybe. Like I said, Hollywood messes up a quintissential British classic, the Ghurkas are coming to Hollywood
:p .Just checked...without spoiling anything the film starts in Italy and the Alps, then transfers to LA. ![]() |

1. The band that did it were semi-big in the (very) early 80s. I'm guessing they were bigger in the UK than in the USA.
2. Their first keyboard player has (had? its not like we get up to date British TV here in the USA) a TV variety show called "Later, with..." 3. They had their biggest hit with a song that had vocals by their second (or third) keyboard player. This song had probably the cheapest looking video ever to be played on MTV. 4. Their name rhymes with "Tease", and for a while, here in the US, had a "UK" after it--kinda like The Beat was known as The English Beat here, to all but a few anglo-philes. 5. For a short time, their two songwriters (Difford and Tillbrook) were considered the new Lennon-McCartney, but you know, that didn't last for long, since the band broke up in 1984, and god knows what they are doing now. There's five clues. RIO
