Gallas is between Juve and Milan, but given the good references Desailly his former french teammate did, he knows that Milan is better for a player. He said in october: "I think after 5 years i may go. A friend told me the absolute best for a football player is Milan AC ". Gallas costs 20 millions, but a clause in his contract may set him as free agent. It depends on his contractual situation, but i think he is likely to come.

Buffon: the problem is that Juve is a society quoted on the financial market, and owned by shareholders. If they sell a player like Buffon, paid 50 millions 5 years ago, to balance the previous investiment, according to company law and financial market rules, they should set a price of 30-35 millions and maybe Abbiati as makeweight.
If you wonder why the price is lower, consider that 5 years have passed after the investiment and these things go like these (can't tell you in english and it's quite a complex subject)

Midfield: the priority above any other ivestiment is a major signing in midfield. Diarra is the n1 target. The board is very determined to sign him, even because he can play in every role of the mid, in Seedorf's place, in Gttuso's and Pirlo's ones.
The starting price made by Lyon (a wealthy club who doesn't need to sell their best players-->higher price) is 35 millions, but our board will find an agreement around 20 Mill. In some ways, Milan has been informed that Lyon is available for a deal, and everyone has seen we need a major investiment in mid, so the price won't be a problem...if you don't win, you don't gain moneys..

It is said Snejder may come, as part of the deal with Stam going to Ajax for sure. Gourkouff , a french mid, as been stopped and in the next weeks we'll know more about this scenario.

Oddo is likely to come, regardless of the fact we'll sign Gallas who can play in many roles of the defence and will surely replace Stam, while Oddo will replace Simic.
Why Oddo? Other that technical reasons, there's one reason more: Oddo igrew up as a player in Milan's youngsters team, and from the next year we need a quota of players grown up in our youth team. Plus, he's a quality player, one of the best Lazio players this season.

De Rossi- He's the alternative to Diarra. He could be signed for cash of maybe with cash + Jankulvoski, who is a favourite of Spalletti, former coach at Udinese. Many would like to keep Jankulovski next year and i think this is very likely to happen. The guy was unlucky and just now he's showing his real worth. Be sure: the next season Jankulovski will be one of our best players.

Eto'o-the point is: is Henry is likely to be signed by Barca, he may go. I mean, Ronaldinho, Messi, Henry and Eto'o?? He would have just one choice , other than the merchants of Chelsea. But this would mean more bench for Gila. This is not unreal, though, although very difficult.

These are the scenarios of the players we are interested in.

Gallas: 60%
Diarra:60%
De Rossi:20%
Buffon:25%
Eto'o: 30%
Oddo: 80%

I think we'll sign Oddo, Gallas, Diarra and a few minor players to complete the team. If a big name will come he will be among these ones: Buffon and Eto'o.

We'll sign a left flanker, probably, as well.
Ahh, nice one Gio ... I love such topics, it kind of makes you dream about all the possibilities out there
If we sign Diarra and Gallas, I say we are already signing two big names. A player like Eto'o would be like the icing on the cake. I am sure we could handle his presence in the team and find a place for him too .
I agree that with Henry's transfer to Barca all but officially confirmed - there are already talks of him buying a house in Barcelona - Eto'o might find himself in surplus at Barca with Dinho, Messi, and Henry the obvious starters. I still think that this Eto'o transfer to Milan could only happen if we end up selling Sheva to Chelski - and his outburst when he was subbed in the Livorno game didn't exactly put an end to those rumours either. Otherwise, I would expect to see Chelski get Eto'o, who they have been following for a good year or so now.
As for that left back role, I guess we already did sign someone - Beppe Favalli - not exactly a headline grabber kind of move by us but, who knows, he might turn to be useful to us, although someone like Pasqual or Grosso would have been better.
Well, I guess we'll see what happens over the next 3 months or so.
Cheers.

You mean depreciation Gio ? Where an item's market value decreases over a length of time.

I don't mind Oddo, i would still prefer Reveillere as i think he has more to offer. But again, as Lyon don't need to sell, getting him and Diarra would end up costing us a fortune.

On Channel4 it mentions Grosso and how ourselves, Inter and Juve are linked to the left-back. I would really like us to go for him, i know Favalli maybe free but i think Grosso (or indeed Pasqual) should be targeted.

Jankulovski and Serginho are our only true wide players and both are for the left side, so selling Marek would be a big mistake. We need a right sided wide player, Mancini is the obvious choice but again we only have so much money so a cheaper alternative is needed. I think Castelan of Feyenoord might be a good shout, maybe some of our Dutch members can give us their view on him. The times i've seen him he's been electric, both in terms of pace and skill, but i admit i haven't seen all his games, so maybe i've just been lucky.

boy I wish we get Diarra, but realistically speaking, it will not happen. There are so many teams in europe after Diarra, and he has never said he wanted to leave Lyon, and never spoke of an interest from Milan. I really doubt we will buy such a player for 35m to sit on the bench (although i think he can replace Rino).. Gallas? I hope so.. i'll give this transfer a 40% really.. Oddo? 70%.. Favalli 95%.. Sneijder 50%.. Buffon and Eto 0%

Reading your replies, here 's the situation according to market experts who work daily with close members of our society.

Eto'o is a dream, the icing on the cake, but this wouldn't mean a sacrifice of Shevchenko. Sheva won't go anywhere, i think i can give it almost as sure. Why? Because these players go just if they want to (and a small issue with Ancelotti is a ridiculous reason to go), but Shevchenko is in deep relations with Berlusconi, his son's godfather and the President helped his father when he needed to undergo surgery. I 'm sure Shevchenko won't betray us, and we're not going to sacrifice him for moneys.
A prove? We never did during the Berlusconi era. I think it's reasonably enough to say Shevchenko will stay with us until the end of the career.

Diarra is a difficult signing, but not at all impossible. Essien is the prove. Last year Chelsea wanted essien and signed him. Obviously Lyon is a rich club and wants big moneys, but i trust in the devilish art of Galliani to considerably lower the price. Let's say the signing of Diarra, if it happens, would be around 20 MIll. The remarkable news is that our board targeted him and the n1 target to re-build a midfield which lacks physical presence. Diarra is a new Rijkaard, and has either technical and physical qualities.

Snejder may stay at Ajax for one or two seasons more, don't know if he will be picked up for the next season. Maybe he will stay in Holland a few time more to mature before the big jump to Serie A.

Oddo: i think he will come the next year. When he was asked about it, he had a strange smile on his face, and here he's given as done deal.

Favalli: the lad yesterday was absolutely one of the best on the pitch during Roma-Inter. I think he's a reliable and good signing to complete the team, which can't be made of 25 world class players.

@Jim UK: Reveillere is the most hyped French player (and Lyon is the worst place to buy players, they put big prices)..i heard we are following another french player who plays in Bordeaux (or Rennes? don't remember well) who's quite young and doesn't cost a fortune like Reveillere, but is consistently one of the best right backs of Ligue 1. In such roles, we can sign a good player everywhere, in Brazil, in Argentina (in cheaper markets). We don't need desperately Reveillere. That explains why we don't sign many Italians: Grosso and Pasqual cost much more than other players of the same quality

I heard we are following a young left back as well, wasn't that Perea a target we were interested in?

In general, i think we'll save the biggest amount of moneys on players we don't need desperately. i think we'll go with free agents until the younger guns we targeted improve and get more mature for the Serie A and for a big club. This logic explains the signing of Favalli.

In the crucial roles like midfield this year, we'll spend the biggest amount of moneys- That's why i feel we'll sign a big midfielder for the next season-

Last but not least, we can't sign the best young hyped player in every role. These players cost a fortune and we can make at best 2 big signings per season. In the other roles, we'll sign good players who can play a few excellent seasons (like Cafu, Pancaro, Stam) and we'll wait for the next year to insert , for ex. 2 great full backs and another younger midfielder, for ex. Snejider

Just heard in the news that some guy named Maclaren is going to be England next coach, and a funny thought crossed my mind.... a possibility of replacing Ancheloti with Eriksson. What u people have to say about that?
I personaly don't think that he deserve all the attention he gets... I mean what did he achieve??? One championship with Lazio, but remember that they were more crazy than Chelsea today in terms of spending cash, they had Mendieta, Crespo, Lopez, Veron, Nedved, Mihailovich, Salas, Nesta and more.... I remember people calling them "toto-Lazio" or something like that, because every game Eriksson played with another squad and u couldn't never guess who will play... it was like two teams in one. So with this over-packed galactico/chelski style squad, all Eriksson managed to do is one championship??? it's not enough...
And to be honest I don't like what he did in England national team, they don't play good...
So it's interesting possibility of Eriksson coming in for Ancheloti, but I don't think he will make us play better though.

hi and welcome to MM

Do you have a source for that rumour?
I saw the Van Nistelrooy thing a few days ago in the "gossip column" at the BBC website. One of the British tabloids claims Milan is preparing to move for RVN. The Gattuso thing is also being widely reported in England. Apparently Alex Ferguson wants him to replace Keane as the ball-winner and wants to pair him with Carrick from Tottenham -- at least if you can believe the British tabloids, which I don't.

Manchester United wants Gattuso, Carrick

Rummors are growing about Manchester looking for a top notch central midfielder. They have always wanted Gattuso, so with the press knowing that they need a midfielder, I think they are just associating Gattuso with them because of what happened in the past. They need something to write about. I think Manchester has no longer interest in Gattuso because Milan has put it pretty simple that they will not seel him. If it is true that they want Gattuso, I would really be against his sale. I would rather see Ambro or Vogel leave then Gattuso.

On the other hand, rummors are also growing that Diarra is going to be sold with a lot of sides lining up for the Lyon star. Goal.com today released a story of Lyon being interested in Barca's Motta, in order to fill Diarra's position.
Signing Diarra would be a dream. It would make our midfield the most balanced in the world. Perfect balance of power and technique. We will have it all. I know that someone has to leave if Diarra comes and I really don't see that being any of the current starters, so I am guessing it has to be either Ambro or Vogel.

One problem that has come to mind of late is Rui Costa however. With reports saying that he might leave or even retire, we will lack a cover for Kaka. How is the Fiore situation??????

I am hoping that Oddo does come as he will not cost more then 4 mil. I am still kind of torn on Gallas and Barzagli however. The rummors on Barzagli have calmed down so much that I haven't read a thing in weeks so i really don't know what to think. At this point, I'd say....just go for whoever is cheaper which might be Gallas.

As for Buffon....It would be great to get him, but not neccessary. I share the same thoughts with some of the people that think Dida has cost us this season. Even though he is clearly one of the best (Barca game proves it), he has been really shaky and i must admit he has cost us quite a few points in Serie A. Paying big money for Buffon would be a huge mistake however, so with Abbiati coming back, I think we'll be set even without Buffon.

The latest name associated with us....Eto'o would be great. I don't care if it means that someone of the current strikers has to sit on the bench. I little competition shouldn't hurt anyone. Besides, if any of them are scared for their place, then they better work their buts off to be on that field. The only thing that I don't like about this is that he would cost a lot of money. Again just like Buffon........It would be nice but it is unneccesary to spend big money on something we don't really need.(We have the best attack in Italy and one of the best in Europe. If I'm not mistaken untill a few weeks we were only 2 goals behind Barca)

By the way....have we already signed Favalli???? I don't think it is official is it?

Yes minhduc??? I see u have all well placed, theoreticly at least... but tell me, when we played PSV, Lyon and Barca, somehow I didn't see much of Pirlo's collection and distribution, Seedorf's possession, Gattuso's stopping opponent midfielders and Kaka's assisting...[/quote]

You have to add some other games like Inter (we win 1-0)...

So in those games we had our hand tied, we played poorly. My point is that our system has been clearly known to opponents, they what to do to stop us (attack Kaka and Pirlo position).

If we have a new system that all the functions are more evenly distributed among the midfielders, it will be difficult for opponent to read our games so to stop us playing.

I think it should be considered good to let go Gattuso in exchange for Diarra who has equal energy, more physical presence (taller) and more skill.

revolution will not happen for the next season, simic just signed contract extension with milan. maybe most of u disagree with me, i will be more than happy to offload gattuso.
tevez is great, but it is highly unlikely he joins milan.
favalli will be a great addition, again age does not reflect ability.

Haha. I find the English press to be a constant source of amusement. But then, I don't actually have to live with them as you do. They are completely obsessed with linking Chelsea and every big name player they can think of -- especially strikers such as Sheva -- and they rarely attribute these things to anyone. It's always "it has been said" or "Chelsea may be" something such as that. And, of course, they want to portray Manchester United and Liverpool as trying to keep up with Chelsea, so they get those stories too. It's a three-ring circus.

I mean, how many times does Sheva have to say publicly that he's not going anywhere? But the English press would rather believe gossip than to get it straight from the horse's mouth because sensationalism sells more papers. Well, that and Page 3 girls.

true! at the most we will have 1 top player like gallas or diarra and other small ( financially cheap) signings such as favalli. i doubt his credibility tho

Hi.
Let me say that for the next season if our def looks like this i won't be disapointed:

Oddo---Costacurta----Gallas----Serginho (rotation)
Cafu------Nesta------Kaladze---Maldini (starters)

However, it wouldn't hurt to sign one extra central defender (CD), such as Tal Ben Haim of Bolton (number 26, age 26). If we dont get another one in and just sign Favalli and a riight defender, something like this comes to mind:

Oddo-----Simic----Nesta/Kaladze----Serginho (in case of long term injury to one of our 2 CD

And/or why not instead of Oddo just sign Dani Alves (defender/wing back right) from Sevilla straight away and have Cafu be his backup/mentor? The guy could cost a fortune because he IS good. He can both defend and attack and is definitely one of the three best players in the world in that position (who the other two are, I don't know Brasilian, 24 I think, and much better then Rafinha (in my point of view). He could be coupeled with Fabio Aurelio. Smile

However, I don't mind getting Oddo and Favalli, seems good to me.

And....I'm generally against Cris and all the others mentioned for the central defender role in here
