Cagliari: Inter have Suazo
Saturday 23 June, 2007
David Suazo is free to join Inter after rejecting the move to Milan, confirms Cagliari President Massimo Cellino.

Last night there was another shock turnaround in the Suazo saga. Having been promised to the Nerazzurri, then sold to the Rossoneri for £10m, he convinced Cagliari to change their minds and go back to his original plan.

“Suazo called me at 21.30 and said he wants to go to Inter,” announced patron Cellino.

“Fighting back tears he explained that, aside from the medical he already underwent, he is determined to complete this transfer because Inter have been courting him for months.

"Roberto Mancini called him several times and made him feel very enthusiastic about the move.”

In the end, the player’s intent won out, so the announced £10m agreement between the clubs has been scrapped.

“Even if he appreciates Milan’s gesture, Suazo is afraid that they only wanted to put a spanner in the works for Inter.

“He didn’t even give me time to answer back, he sounded extremely certain. I can only say that at this point I will leave the player free to make his path.”

Cellino was accused of playing the two San Siro clubs against each other, but insists Inter had no right to complain.

“I acted professionally with both Inter and Milan,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’ “At a certain stage it seemed that the negotiations with Massimo Moratti’s side were at a dead end.”

The Cagliari patron confirmed that the turning point was provided by a clause in Suazo’s contract – signed last year – that allows him to walk away to a club of his choosing for £9.4m. At first it was believed this only applied to overseas sides, but the Italian inclusion proved decisive.

“Now that clause means I will get the cash and perhaps not even Robert Acquafresca as part of the transfer. I certainly won’t go to demand him. At least in this whole affair we’ve shown that I had asked Milan for the same £9.4m – not a penny more.”

Under-21 international Acquafresca will join the Sardinians in a co-ownership deal as part of the move originally agreed before Milan’s intervention.

An official announcement of Suazo’s switch to Inter is expected over the weekend.

----
Well, it seems we lost a good player. Now I think the management will try to get a bigger name.

I listed the players I think we will end up with, but fellow Milanisti, we should be prepared for absolutely no transfer market activity also. I personally think that it's 70-30. 70% that we will make moves, 30% that we won't.

am i the only one who is glad we didn't spend so much money on suazo?

10M pounds for such a player is definitely not worth it IMO.

Also, if you read the latest ch4 article, in an official announcement Milan state that the £9.4 million was for CO-OWNERSHIP. He's good, but not that good.

If Milan werent so sure weather they want him for real..than maybe we should have not interfered at all...like this we only hurt our Image.. We didnt even try to fight for the guy....I hope the reason is cuz Henry signed for BArca, and we see a chance to capture on of ETO or Dinho...

I am sure that was a typo, as it turned out, the buy-out clause for his full rights is 14 mil euros (that same 9.3 mil BP mentioned) and Inter were offering below it at first.
Now that Milan intervened and threatened to hijack the deal, Inter are exoected to pay those 14 mil and maybe even give half of Aquafresca to cagliari for good-relations's sake.

FIGC: Suazo risks six-month ban

David Suazo risks a six-month ban after signing a contract with Inter before the clubs had reached an agreement, warn the FIGC.

“Both Suazo and Massimo Moratti said that a contract had already been signed,” noted Mario Stagliano, the former Vice-President of the Federation investigative committee.

“If that is the case, then even if it was torn up later, the crime was admitted by both parties and so a punishment is applicable.

“According to the regulations, the player and the President must be suspended or face some form of sanction. The maximum ban is six months.”

The Nerazzurri confirmed that they had penned a personal deal with the striker even though Cagliari had not formally sold him yet.

So when Milan came in and secured a £10m transfer with the Sardinians, they found him already promised to the other side of the San Siro.

This morning the Rossoneri officially pulled out of the agreement with Cagliari because of that personal contract, but the matter could well not be over with yet.

At the end, it may turn out well for Milan...losing Suazo - getting Eto'o.
But something still bothers me here. Why in the first place did Milan go after Suazo ?
I don't think the initial NO from Eto'o was the reason Milan to go with plan B (Suazo).
Galliani is experienced enough to know things change with every hour passing, and he was aware that Barca is interested in Henry, which would open place for Eto'o departure. Still, he went for Suazo.

So, isn't it possible that Suazo was plan A actually ?
Or... plan A was both Eto'o and Suazo ?
Or getting Eto'o wasn't a plan at all ?

Unlike some others here, i don't think Galliani is incapable.
What if Milan signed Suazo and now these things with Henry happened ?
Imo, there's no connection between Suazo and Eto'o and Milan didn't let Suazo go to Inter just because now there's an option Eto'o

Let's see what will happen because I really think the player migt get banned still, I have been afraid of that since Moratti said that "he already signed with us" when Milan and Cagliari agreed a fee.

But if there is a clause in his contract with Cagliari that allows him to be released for 8mil, then the case is over, no bans

the release clause is for 9.3 mil BP which is below what Inter and Cagliari were discussing before Cagliari went to Milan and sold the player for as much as the clause was.
By that time, the alleged contract was already signed and as a FIGC representative said, even if it was torn up after that, the admission of Moratti and Suazo is enough for sanctions.

Even now, when Milan has officially retired from the negotiations, Cagliari president still comes out and says that he wants 14 mil from Inter, an amount they had not offered so far for Suazo ... so, even if they, Cagliari and Inter agree a deal for Suazo, this still leaves room for sanctions as that contarct between Inter and Suazo was done obviously before there was any official agreement between the two clubs.

Yet still, with that clause, Inter may well only give the 8 or 9.2 mil and still get Suazo, the bans and sanctions to be put on the player and Moratti will only be effective only if Inter doesn't prove that when they had the player sign the conract was because of the previous agreement with Cagliari, the biggest mistake Inter did was that, we had Suazo sign a contract but we didn't cover ourselves with a Caligari signing, let's see how the law will put the wordings on the subject
