Lyon VS Milan

U supposed to get used already, that Milan giving the minimum effort playing away and maximum when playing home.

This result is ok, too bad we didnt score. Now we need to be really carefull and not make ANY mistakes at home. San Siro gives us another 20% of power, we can beat Lyon for sure. Once again Diarra showed how great he is, and Cris showed he has no place in Milan. Nesta,Maldini,Kaladze are all better than him. Seedorf did very good today, he gave his all. Gattuso was great. Pirlo still out of form, as usual. Aldough he had some great long passes, switching sides.
In the San Siro we will have Stam back and that is big boost for us, also, Pippo should start. Lets just wait and see....

Very true. I think we were a little bit better today. We had the biggest opportunities to score, and with a bit more luck we would have. But Lyon is a good side, and it will take one hell of an effort to beat them at home. At least there will be 80 000 milanistas in the stands then.

It was a tough match today against a very very good team. I am a little disspointed we didnt get an away goal. Now we have have to win the return leg, I dont think a 0-0 draw is likely again.

On the other hand, I was very impressed by Diara. Cris was good, but Im still not sure he is good enough. But one defender I was really impressed by was Abidal. He was too strong for Kaka and Sheva all game. He would be a great addition.

Very tricky result indeed we'll have to be more carefull at San Siro, we mustn't receive a goal and we have to score one and that will leave space for counter attacks and Malouda and Wiltord are really fast and dangerous but i have confidence in Milan playing home so we should tear them apart like Bayern.

I'm dissapointed Sheva didn't score a goal from the 2 chances he had, but that's football sometimes you have luck sometimes you don't.

Nesta, Kaladze and Gattuso were amazing with their defensive tasks even though Kaladze made 2 mistakes which could have cost us the game but luckily everthing went fine, also Seedorf, Sheva and Kaka were great but Gila was invisible, Inzaghi should have started this game and i agree with hitmannq8 that Gila should play in Seria A and Inzaghi should play the big matches in CL

i havent read the views here but personally im very angry at the performance of the players, ancelotti was excellent though, he made the exact subs i was thinking of... but lyon really overran us after 20 mins... it was pretty even in terms of chances, ours were even better ones, but i almost lost my hair because we easily gave away the ball... at one point, the ball couldnt stay with us longer than 5 seconds, and the players movement!! oh my god, im not saying everyone, but when we actually have the chance to cool down the tempo of the game, no one is opening up to receive a pass, while lyon players were pressuring from attack, even dida was pissed off at this, u can tell from his reactions before a goal kick or anything similar, and as for the finishing im pretty dissapointed with sheva today, his movements were good, but all his shots were straight at coupet, and they werent fierce enough to atleast cause a rebound maybe, and in general i think as of late despite the fact that hes scoring, he doesnt look as sharp as usual, just hope he regains his top form, this is were we need him the most.

player evaluation:

dida - 8: he performed a nice save, and his positioning on tricky shots that take a bounce and are low were very good, but what i liked most was his reactions when the ball is out of play, he really seemed to want to win.

Costacurta - 6.5: i thought this is when we needed cafu the most, maybe stam even better, because of late stam has been superb offensivly and defensivly, but i cant blame billy that he doesnt go forward and produce crosses because its not him and his age doesnt help, he did well defensivly but i hoped that hed shout at the other players more often.

- Nesta - 7: defensivly, excellent! ... but when we needed to cool things down, he kicks the ball reclessly forward hoping that the attack would do something with it.

- Kaladze - 7.5: also great defensivly, great timing on tackles, and unlike nesta he passed forward more acuratly and at the right time.

- Serginho - 7: great positioning today from him, i reckon carlo asked him not to go forward as much but when he did he produced good crosses that i think forwards messed up.

- Pirlo - 6.5: nothing special, but cant really blame him since lyon completly shut him down today, defensivly on some occasions i hoped hed be more aggresive but not bad in general, vogel had to come in IMO.

- Gattuso - 7: very good defensivly, made up for the space pirlo left, and he really wanted to win the game, he also didnt get sent off !!

- Seedorf - 7.5: without him i doubt we would have handled lyons firepower, held the ball really well and when serginho went forward he was always ready to cover up for him.

- Kaka - 6.5: i feel bad for him because diarra was super today and gave him no chance, he tried hard to do something but on one occasion his shot was weak, on another the pitch messed up a good run for him that could have been a goal, just an unlucky day for him despite the determination.

- Shevchenko - 6.5: like i said, good movement from him, but im not used to see sheva finish like that, on form he would have burried the chances he got!

- Gilardino - 3: out of sorts, throughout the game i was saying egoistka has a point (though i dont think he should be hanged), but he was too nervous, didnt gel in with the team attacks, he did nothing right today, he didnt even pressure the defenders, which was the least he could do IMO, i just hope he scores a goal in the CL and breaks free, he really drove me nuts today!

subs:
Inzaghi - 6.5: he had the determination to do something, but didnt have anything to do really.

Maldini - 6.5: his presence calmed the team i felt, but he seemed to far away from any of the action, cant blame him though, just back from and injury and playing in a new position... WB capitano!

Vogel - 6.5: we needed him instead of pirlo, i thought he shouldve come on a bit earlier, but nothing to do aswell.


conclusion, not a bad result, hats off to lyon, our performance indivisually wasnt bad, just that we missed the ferocity and aggressivness that lyon had, which is ironic because i felt lyon were playing very similar to the way we used to 2 years ago, killing off any chances for us to do anything.

Lyon players that caught my attention the most:
- Diarra
- Wiltord

they all played great, but i hope we get those 2 players and if alex isnt available i dont mind cris

Gialrdino 3..hahaha! good one he didnt do much, and he looks unconfortable in there. He needs some speed and power, and some determination also. Lets prepare pippo and stam for San Siro match. And one more thing, before the game I said we need to play sedorf on the right and gattuso on the left, but as Costacurta was playing, we needed Gattuso to help him out with Malouda. Good job done in there.
Conclusion - We are Milan and in the San Siro we simply need to go 120% fired upo and score some goals, thats all .)

Grrr...wish Sheva had the proper shooting boots on today. The team could've put the smack down within the half hour mark but oh well, what can you say. Anyway I liked the way the team came out, they were very active and put together some good moves. Rino was a beast, liked his performance today.

Just hoping that this result won't bite us in the a$$ next week.

As I said, I am content by the way we held Lyon seemingly in control of the ball but not of the game, but I can't say I am crazy about the result as a 0-0 is a double edged knife with that away goals rule. Obviously we have to be very careful at the San Siro and, apart from the crowd, I'd say Lyon will have a slight advantage as all they need is a scoring draw to go through and when two very good team play, that's often what the outcome is.
Pretty disappointed with Cris' perfomance. Not that he was that awful or anything but I really expected much more from him and he looked a bit scared whenever he faced Kaka or Sheva. Excellent game by Diarra and Abidal, and a very good one for Malouda. these three players, especially the first two, deserve extra attention and effort by Milan. Wiltord also had a pretty good game, too bad he is over 30 now (32-33 I think ?)

solid defence form nesta and kalazhe and good goal winning form gattu.Sheva had done very well. Kaka and gila were outplayed by the lyon defence.

Now milan cant afford to conceed a single goal in San Siro becox if there were they will have to score more more.Only a win at san siro and not even a draw.Lyon show how good they are even without juninho...

Just hope that Kaka n Inzaghi and be more agressive and assit or score goal along side with Sheva.

dont agree, I think milan can afford a goal, the plan for match is clear: score more than the oponents
like with bayern or with Ajax (season 2002-2003) !

I don't know if some of you noticed, but even though our defence was superb and very composed throughout the match, had Lyon had Juninho in their squad, they could have easily beaten us 1-0 or 2-0 and done a Bayern/[insert any team that's won or drawn us just by scoring long range goals] on us. I'm not being overly critical of the team. They did well today, even against a Lyon without Juninho; barring abit of complacency and fatigue shown. I'm just pointing out a fact that our midfield are just a yard off the pace(most of the time) in closing down long range attempts and sometimes think the defence and Dida are invincible(though sometimes they really are )

The whole team looked tired and a yard off the pace. The midfield wasn't in the game at all and I have to say the worst player on the pitch was Gillardinho. Nothing he did or tried came off.

the only player who looked anyway good for me was Sheva and even at that he looked as though he wasn't overly interested. What was strange was seeing in the last 15mins as if both teams settled for a 0-0. Even Lyon looked to have given up when and I have to be honest and blunt here, we were there for the taking!!!
