Milan - Catania , Week 17

Yes! Finally we got a big win. Good to see kaka and gilardinho are back. Hopefully gila can now realise he is the key in attack now and hope this can build up his confidence now on.
Despite the win, I still think we should get rid of Kalac, even if we get a replacement for Dida we still need to replace him. He is a joke. He fumble at least once in a game.

just a thought....could the win today caused by the absent of seedorf

The diffrence between a good team and a world class team is the strenght of the bench and Kalac is simply not good enough to be on ours. not to mention he is definately not good enough to be on the field.
Maybe we are a bit spoild with such a great keeper on the bench in recent years but I understand why Abbiati wanted to leave...
He is just to good to young, to be a second keeper

cafu was also good today given that he's been out for some time now due to injuries. Brocchi and Rino fought well today and helped up front too. Gila and Kaka were good and very good today.
Oliveira needs a boost in confidence - he isn't playing as bad as some say he is but is missing on chances he should be putting away or at least finish with a shot in gole rather than wide.
pirlo's concentration could and should be improved a lot, I think. at times today he was totally airy and doing some stupid things that endangered the defense.

P.S. catania has a game in hand because their last game in Serie A over the weekend was postponed.

yeah i agree also, renember he is still young so he has alot to learn.. When Billy retires i would like Bonera to play more as a CB instead of a RB

Billy will never retire .

Now Catania had four great chances to score, they all felt like they came from nothings since Catania otherwise mostly had problems getting away shots. Of course one of those chances was given by mr slippy fingers himself, what in gods name have they put on his gloves? But we had plenty of chances besides the goals too, especially Kaka who could have score 4 or more goals yesterday.

Kalac 5.5. Almost gifted a goal with his expert handling of the ball, otherwise not much to talk about.
Cafu 6. Had a pretty good game. Could really have done something a couple of times in the first half and his passes was quite smart onces, but intercepted...
Bonera. 7. He was pretty much a rock, a bit suspect on that header Catania had late in the first half, otherwise close to perfect. Unlike other defenders he didn't waste the ball on long passes.
Kaladze 6. Its not that he was bad, but I saw him clearly out of position at least two times and just walking back. once again he clearly missed a quite easy ball passed into the area. But he saved a goal and otherwise didn't let anyone pass him.
Jankulovski. 6. Had poor crosses, but I liked his aggresive playing.
Gattuso 7. The Gattuso we love, he worked really hard and even pressed their right back once. He also played it simple and let his more talented teammates do the playemaking.
Pirlo 6.5. good game, todays his teammates played to his strenghts and suddenly he looked much better. Had problems in defense though, he was there, but mostly ended up with fouls.
Brocchi 6.5. Played good and also trusted his teammates. simple playing and hard working.
Kaka 7. This is the great Kaka, nice dribbles, moved around good on the pitch and made himself available. Scored twice. Rating only down because of all the missed chances.
Gilardino. 7. Best Gilardino this year, faith in him may be paying off. He moved good on the pitch, scored a goal and had two assists. Not sure the second assist was intentional though
Oliveira. 5. He want to do to much. Every time he gets the ball he drives it forward and take a shot, lack of confidence probably is why the shots is quite poor. he needs to play more simple and forget about scoring, if he plays for the team the goals will come.

Seedorf. I would like to see him work harder without the ball, but he otherwise played good.
Gourcuff. Only had time to get kicked at and then took a revenge for a yellow card.
Simic. Hardly saw him.

Referee. 9!!! Best referee I seen this year. I couldn't believe this was a serie A game, amazingly enough he didn't blow the wistle every time a player decided to take a rest. i was overjoyed by seeing the whining players sitting there on the ground watching their opponents attack instead of taking their 5 minutes to play a freekick.

EDIT - compared my ratings with ACM and it seems we pretty much agree.

Assuming I'm ACM I'd say that's true. Though I'd give Kalac the same as Oliveira (possibly less?) because the only time he was really called on he pretty much gifted Catania a goal lol. I guess his distribution is general wasn't too bad

I missed out commenting on the ref in my post. I actually forgot, and that's credit to him, as I personally think the best refs are those who do their work and aren't discussed too much (i.e. They aren't interfering with the game).

actually, when he came in the result was only 1-0 for Milan, I believe ... with him on the field we managed to threaten more and eventually close the game.

I thought Seedorf was marginally better yesterday. We played intelligently, far more so than in recent weeks, during which time our play was very predictable.

As for the Gila-bashers, even you must admit that not only did the man score an important goal but held up the ball brilliantly for Kaka. Those two in tandem is the best option Milan has currently. I would always play with 4-4-1-1.

Just returned from Costa Rica, to watch the highlights on ESPN Int last nite.

Didnt see all the missed chances, but 3-0 is nothing to scoff at...good result, even if it is against an over-performing Serie B promotion side.

Glad to see Gila making assists and scoring (an unimportant goal maybe? )...yup, he is so over-rated, and definately not worthy of Milan

Lets hope Marek can score a brace vs Udinese!
