ps i agree maicon isnt playing like he is used to,but honestly that doesnt make hime any worse
He never had his chance ... and we know that with confidence, even an average player can become good, very good, etc ...

And who knows, maybe after a Scudetto, a CL, an Italian Cup and a WC (who knows ?! I prefer Antonini to Grosso ...), we will all agree to say that he is a WC fullback.

Who said "in your dreams" ?!

In my opinion Antonini's performances the last two months have been so good that any of those so called world class players would have been proud of them. I agree it's not like he's done enough to be compared with Maicon, Daniel Alves or other freak full backs, but the fact is that at the moment he's playing probably even better than those two are.

I say we keep Antonini as a first choice, at least until the summer. I would hate to throw a player on the bench, when he's actually performing and has gelled with the team, just so we can have a better team in Football Manager. Only thing about him is that he doesn't seem as confident as some of the super full backs, still I say we let him be our starter for the rest of the season.

Obviously though, we really haven't seen all that many games from Antonini, and he may just slip up in the derby and I regret what I said (Hope not), but for now that's just what I think about it.

I'm more concerned with our RB spot to be honost, I think Abate is doing an ok job, but in my opinion he has far more slip ups than Antonini. Still you go a long way as a full back if you're just fast, and both those guys are fast.

Rome wasnt built in a day... a player doesnt become world class overnight... it takes time... Antonini is on the path to world class...

Agree with you..... I think we shouldn't too bother about this "world class"crap.I mean, it's nice to have world class wingbacks, but only a few that a really proven world class(lahm, alves, maicon)and getting them will be super expensive...right now we got both Antonini and Abate playing great and we also got more than decent back up in Zambrotta&Jankulovski. All we need right now is decent centre back cause if either Nesta or Silva getting serious injury........WE SCREWED!!!!

Abate and Antonini for WC....

For real, I don't think there is an Italian LB playing better than Antonini since December.
IF Grosso continues to struggles, I think Lippi has no choice but to bring Antonini. As for Abate, well, if he continues to play well in Milan and Milan continues to win. I see Lippi has no choice but to choose the IT team base on Milan players, as that way IT will have no problem playing as a team.

By the way, I don't know if this has been posted already but:

Against Siena: 6 Italian players started (plus Favalli + Pippo also came in)
Against Juventus: 7 Italians started
Against Genoa: 7 Italians started
Against Novara: 7 Italians started (plus Abate + Verdi came in the game also)

This is only in 2010. I am not saying anything against foreign players. Far from that. But it just makes me proud to look at our line up and see all the Italian players in there.

Without Considering Pippo, kaladze, Oddo, Onyewu, Beckham as part of Milan....

First Situation : Flamini & Huntelaar Stays 25 to 30m
Priority 1) Centre Back ------- Kjaer 10m
Priority 2) Wingback -------- Rafinha/David Luiz/Santon 10m
Priority 3) Goal Keeper ------ Marchetti/Julio Sergio 5m

Second Situation : Flamini stays & Huntelaar goes 50 to 55m
Priority 1) Striker or AM ------- Dzeko 35m
Priority 2) Centre Back ------- Kjaer/Astori 10m
Priority 3) Wingback -------- Rafinha/David Luiz/Santon 10m

Third Situation : Flamini goes & Huntelaar stays 40m
Priority 1) Centre Back ------- Kjaer/Astori 10m
Priority 3) Midfield -------Krasic & hernanes 25m
Priority 4) Wingback -------- Rafinha/David Luiz/Santon 10m

Worst Situation : Flamini & Huntelaar go 55 to 60m
Priority 2) Striker or AM ------- Dzeko 35m
Priority 2) Centre Back ------- Kjaer/Astori 10m
Priority 3) Midfield -------Hernanes/Krasic 10-15m

As per B&G's transfer trends, I am hoping for the 3rd situation to happen in the summer....Whichever we look at this, a young classy centre back should be our highest priority as we run a high risk of nesta/silva being injured.......I really hope tat kjaer comes along with Krasic

If the World Cup was in 2 weeks, Lippi should take Antonini, Abate, Pirlo, Ambrosini (probably Gattuso as he is one of his favorites) and Borriello to start !! Add Nesta, as there are now rumours that he could agree to come back just for the World Cup ...

AC Milan is the Italian NT !!

PS: You can put whoever alongside Nesta, no problem, the defence will be solid because there is Nesta ...

When you think about it makes sense to have the IT team using the Milan players as the base.

Buffon is the GK
Zambro/Abate as RB
Nesta and Canna as CB
Antonini as LB
Ambro and De Rossi as DM
Pirlo as CM
Rossi-Borri-Totti up front

Interesting discussion on fullbacks lately. I think Antonini is really showing great form and Abate has been consistently improving at RB this season. I think given their form, confidence and growth, both players should remain our fullbacks at least for the remainder of this season.

In the future I think we need to re-evaluate their positions. If they can maintain consistency in their level of play then I have no issues keeping them for next season onwards too.

Antonini has been excellent of late and few fullbacks have performed better (throughout the world).

As for Abate, he's grown a lot in half a season at RB and is much less prone to mistakes in positioning than he was a few months ago. We have to have patience with him though, as he's still very young and still has lots of room to grow. He also seems popular in the group and has a great workrate. What I don't want is for us to waste his potential like Inter risk doing with their youngsters (and we've been guilty of it in the past). His current level of performance is not costing us and he can still clearly improve, so I want us to cultivate his growth. In the summer, we need to consider in investing in solid backups as right now the only one reliable on the bench is Zambrotta.

i'd sign Bordeaux's left wing back instead David Luiz or Rafinha, its better to play Abate at RB than Rafinha cuz his defensive game is weak as well...

i'd sign Luiz as Silva and Nesta replacement and using him at CB to play Silva as BTB...

i'd let Flamini go,but not this transfer window,he didnt add much to us,his wages are too much...5.4 m euros a year is so much for a player who is in rotation.i'd sign Hernanes with the money we get and Simplicio who is free agent...

Hernanes+Simplicio
Krasic
WC Striker or potentially a WC Striker.
David Luiz
Bordeaux's left wing back...

-------Ambrosini----------Pirlo-------------Seedorf------

-------Gattuso----------Hernanes---------Simplicio------

I agree with the fact that Abate and Antonini should be given aa chance until the end of the season if they perform well (like all other players).

I don't understand why Antonini should be replaced as soon as possible like it seems to be mentionned in some posts ... is it because Antonini is not very known ? Is it because he is not that young (but not old at all at the same time ...) ?

Leonardo, so far, has played the "best performers", Antonini is one of our best players right now, why replacing him now ? It would be a mistake, and if this mistake is done, I'll say only one thing: sell the guy now to another club where he will get playing time and show his abilities ...

Only concern about Antoinini in my opinion,if he can repeat this perfonmances in CL and in big games, such as next week game,vs Maicon can he repeat this?we all remember what he did vs Palermo...it seems you all forget it...
