Hype is for good or bad an unescapable thing nowadays, since we live more and more on a world entirely dominated by marketing, La Société du spectacle, as Guy Debord used to name it.

what gets me is how alot of people believe Milan lab will help every troubled/injury prone player, like it's some miracle cure. It doesn't work for everyone. Just like not every rough diamond/loss of form type player we get will be rejuvenated ala Pirlo, Seedorf, etc.
Both these things don't work all the time unfortunately and it's not right to assume they will.

wouldnt exactly say the lab got back crespos form, it was the Milan staff and coaches that got his confidence back! not a fitness thing.. if there is a worry with Oliveira's knee then they have to decide whats best! Common guys you think its worth spending like 10 mill on a player that will be injured all season!

What causes ratings? Well many things, but what interests real football fans the most is ability, performance and potential. Any club buying a player gets them for one or more of these. Are you going to tell me that a player who has been 1) had a history of serious knee injuries and 2) a moderately good scorer over the years in perhaps the easiest league for strikers is to be brought in to the most violent and tactical league in Europe? When Inter brought Ronaldo he had injury problems too, but there was a difference: 1) He was younger 2)He showed he can top the charts in any and all leagues he has been with 3) He already won World player of the year. He repaid their transfer money by scoring a boatload of goals when fit and helping them win some rare silverware (uefa cup) Do you honestly think Ricardo Olivera can repeat this? Ronaldo just scored three goals in the WC, depsite critics, bad infighting in the brazil camp AND being unfit. To give you an idea of hie performance, Henry, $heva AND Crespo all scored three as well. Meanwhile Ricardo Oliviera couldn't make the team due to injury. Ronaldo at 21 booted off other legends on the brazil team like Romario Edmundo and Bebeto. Olivera has been the 3rd/4th choice striker. Of course Ronaldo is ~4 years older than Ricardo Oliviera, but then again Crespo is ~4 years older than Owen.....who would you rather have? |

the milan lab is not owned by Dexter, so that is can work miracles on people. It can help you get back to WHO YOU WERE QUICKLY, but cannot turn you into Maradonna.
Otherwise we'd buy somebody cheap like Heskey and get the lab to turn him into MVB |

Milan lab isn't 100% successful, there will be some players who just can't benefit from it.

According Calciomercato.it, L’attaccante brasiliano Ricardo Oliveira, ieri ha sostenuto le visite mediche a Milanello, ed avendole superate brillantemente, oggi si attendeva solo l’ufficialità del passaggio del giocatore dal Betis al Milan...

The Brazilian attacker Ricardo Oliviera has sustained a medical visit to Milanello, was super and brilliant, his attendance seals officially the passage between Betis and Milan...

pretty close, Steza
... only in the end it says that "today is expected only the official confirmation of his transfer from Betis to Milan"Basically, they count him for a Milan player already ... but I would rather hear/read this on www.acmilan.com |

As for your second point, yes, team performance is the most important thing. But dont forget, we are in 2006, not 1986. These days hype is also very important. Marketing is also very important. Filling stadium seats is also very important. Securing good TV contracts is also very important. This is why clubs hire marketing people to help "hype" them up and promote them. This is why it is important that we not simply only win, but to win by playing good attractive football. And this is also why there is an importance to have "high profile" players to lift the interest and image of the club internationally. If we signed Ronaldinho today, for instance, I can guarantee you that our TV coverage would increase, our attendances would increase, marketing opportunities would increase, and the "profile" of the team as a whole would increase. I'm not saying we should sign a squad full of high profile players, I'm simply saying that we need to have an appropriate mix of "squad" players and "big name" players. ANd unfortunately, at present, we have more "squad" players. A high profile arrival is sure to boost enthusiasm and excitement before the season and increase the profile of our club. What's wrong with that? |

Kaka is Milan good move and at the same time he had a good decision to Milan where he can almost immediately play a starter at the expense of Rui Costa. RM and Chelsea will never be smart enough to sign young and promising players, they simply want famous ones, top classed ones.
