since we're on the knowledge thread ... I've been trying to find some books to enlighten me, something historical; preferably on 'the dark ages'.. yet none suits my taste

Yeah, moral values are very urgent nowadays. Our western civilisation is following the steps of Roman Empire and in near future it's society is going to degenerate.
A simple instance, last day's proclamation of San Francisco court about rejecting law against aborts in late pregancy. So irt seems that baby's life is lower quality copmaring to woman's???
Another merit of Burke is his will to ephasise the value of tradition. Not revolution but temperate gaining of purpose. That's the orgin of Conservatism.

Great thread indeed! just like heidi, i think i'll be a regular visitor here.
good posts abt aviation but IMO Dennis Bergkamp wouldn't listen or read.

btw, IMO it's better for all of you to mention your discipline of science, so we know your background and could learn more.

according to my self experience about healthy.

Extracted from: Stories, Famous People and Cats.
Gerd Schmitt-Hausser (1994), Keeping Cats, TFH Publication Inc. USA

Famous People and Cats.
Julius Ceasar was no cat lover. Nor was Nero, Hitler, Stalin, Saint Paul, Goethe, Bernard Shaw, Bach, Beethoven, Napoleon, or Eisenhower. On the other hand Emperor Hadrian was, as was Marcus Aurelius, Roosevelt, Khruschev, Mohammad, Gottfried Keller, Heinrich Heine, Rainer Maria Rilke, Winston Churchill, Chopin, Mozart, Baudelaire, E.T.A. Hoffman, T.S.Elliot and Ernest Hemingway. The point I’d like to make is that I prefered certain historical personages better than others before I found out that the one I liked were also people who liked cats. Cat haters are often power hungry and convinced of their own uniqueness ( like the Caesars ), whose cat-loving colleagues were considered philosopher rulers, like Marcus Aurelius or very human and sensitive, like Hadrian, whose love of cats inspired him to very beautiful poetry. The ep!gram he composed compared his soul to a cat. It is believed. It’s not surprised that Hitler prefered a German Shepherd Dog to a cat.
Cat lovers are sensitive and perceptive. Cat haters are the opposite. Cat haters are very dignified and serious, while cat lovers cn laugh at themselves as well as at the others. Cat lovers are happy and full of vitality despite all worries. Cat haters are pessimists who are always hearing fate knocking on the door ( Mozart versus Beethoven ). Even a twilight personage like Cardinal Richelieu is one of us, though he didn’t dance around gleefully with his enemy, but in his power politics he revealed a great deal of cat-like cleverness, self-control and moderation. He had 12 kittens around him and cared for them lovingly. In a particularly dastardly wretched act of revenge after his death, his lifelong enemy Ludwig XII had a few brutes of the Swiss Guard grill and eat his surviving cats.
There are numerous stories about the cats of famous people. One of the most famous is of the Prophet Mohammed and his cat ( BTW, her name was Muessa as written in the original article ) This cat went to sleep on one of the Prophet’s wide sleeves. It was the hour of prayer, which Mohammed had strictly enjoined the faithful to carry out. But his strictness was not severe that he would disturb his sleeping cats for a dogma. So he cut the sleeve of the garment off and let this cat continue to sleep on it. Even today in Muslim countries, cats are visibly better treated than dogs.
In England and America, cats have long stood as a symbol of rationality and clean thinkers prefer cats as house companions. Isaac Newton is not only the discoverer of gravity but also the inventor of the cat door, with swinging flap, one of which graces George Washington’s Mount Vernon home.
Abraham Lincoln spent an afternoon duing the Civil War to find suitable quarters for three small kittens that strayed into an army camp. The British Premier Disraeli, a spirited man who had Queen Victoria’s ear, was a great cat lover. The queen, however, couldn’t stand his straight-laced rival, Gladstone, a cat hater.
Gladstone said spitefully that Disraeli was too much under the influence of his cat Mary, and such was not benifitting a British statesman. There is no doubt that Disraeli is responsible for 19th century British post offices being issued official cats that even received salaries. Today, there are still official cats in British institutions, even at No.10 Downing Street, official quarters for the Prime Minister.
We’ll end this chapter ( not because we’ve run out of material but of space ) with a quotation of the Italian actress Anna Magnani : ‘Perhaps it would be good if cats ran the world. Then there would be enough cleverness, instict, sensitivity, perserverance and energy at the highest official levels.’

The Metrosexual Meter...more or Less ?

For weeks this thread has no one come.....NVM, i'll still make my contribution to make sure this thread alive.. Taken from The Star, Aug 17, 2003, with edited version

MetroSexual Meter !!!!

You maybe a metro sexual if you...
-Know the difference between Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc;
-have various fragrances to suit your different moods;
-have manicures and even occasional pedicure;
-love buying shoes, lots of them;
-have women asking for your hairstylist's number;
-occasionally wear your girlfriend's thong;
-have used your girlfriend's beauty products;
-devour women's magazines and know the diffrence between organza and taffeta;
-can rattle off names of designers and what they are famous for, thanks to all those magazines;
-have watched Fashion TV.

You're not a Metrosexual if you.....
-cut your hair at a barber;
-consider soap and water as the ideal face care;
-own one pair of shoes which you wear everyday, rain or shine;
-rather watch football league's match than attend your girlfriend's sister engagement party;
-have no idea who is Lord Byron;
-wouldn't be caught dead watching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days;
-think that David Beckham is a wimp
-believe a perfect saturday is playing futsal at.....
-think La Mer is a dessert;
-have allowed your body into that 'stomach walks first' shape

male pattern or female pattern brain...???

for weeks this thread was in sleep, now it's the time for waking up
another interesting knowledge....

This is called the quick eye
exam.............................
Quick Eye Exam...
This will blow your mind...!
Just do it - don't cheat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try this its actually quite good.
But don't cheat!

Count the number of F's in the following text in
15 seconds:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE
RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC
STUDY COMBINED WITH THE
EXPERIENCE OF YEARS

Scroll down only after you have counted them!

OK?

How many?

Three? (You r definitely male!!!)
but Wrong, there are six - no joke!

Read again!

FINISHED FILES ARE THE
RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC
STUDY COMBINED WITH THE
EXPERIENCE OF YEARS

The reasoning is further down...

The MALE brain cannot process the word "OF".
Incredible or what?
Anyone who counts all six F's on the first go has
a brain of a Female
You can test this by asking a Guy/Girl near you
to work it out.
It really works.

"God may have created man before woman but there
is always a rough draft before the masterpiece..."

The real question is how women can pour hot wax on their legs, then pull their hair out by the roots.....and still be afraid of spiders

If you say so, but I would rather be bitten by a small spider than have all the hairs on my legs be pulled out at the same time

Gender !!!!!!!!!!

If you're like most people, common everyday items
look inert to you.
But what you may not know is that many have a
gender. For example...

Freezer bags - Male, because they hold everything
in but you can see right through them.

Photocopier - Female, because once turned off, it
takes a while to warm
up. It's an effective reproductive device if the
right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc, if
the wrong buttons are pushed.

Tyre - Male, because it goes bald and often it's
over inflated.

Hot Air Balloon - Male, because to get it to go
anywhere you have to light a fire under its arse
and, of course, there's the hot air part.

Sponges - Female, because they're soft and
squeezable and retain water.

Web page - Female, because they're always getting
hit on.

London Underground - Male, because it uses the
same old lines to pick up people.

Hourglass - Female, because over time, the weight
shifts to the bottom.

Hammer - Male, because it hasn't evolved much
over the last 5,000 years, but it's handy to have
around.

Remote control - Female... Ha! You thought it'd
be male. But consider- It gives a man pleasure,
he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't
always know the right buttons to push, he keeps
trying!
