I agree that at his current form he is hardly at Milan's level but he is relatively young and has shown that he has the talent and potential to become an excellent defender. I am sure that under the guidance of Billy, Maldini, Nesta he will improve a lot and will be even better than his best days of 2-3 years ago.
I still think, though, that we need a cafu-type of RB as Bonera's game is pretty defense-oriented.

How much did we get him for ?

As already mentioned his versatility has won him a place with us as has the fact that he's Italian ( for the CL rules ). The fact he also supported Milan as a kid means wearing our shirt could improve his performances.

Lets also look at who else we were supposed to get. Oddo, Lazio wanted way too much money for him. Doesn't mean we won't get him, but the chances are smaller now. Reveillere, after some stronger links around May we seem to have stopped all interest and we know Lyon would probably want alot of money for him. Alves, Liverpool had him but Sevilla kept asking for more money and it would take Ģ12-13 million to get him. Gallas, was strongly linked with us and he wanted to come here, but Chelsea waved a mega contract in front of him and it seems only a matter of time before he signs the next 5 years of his life away to them.

I think Bonera is a good squad player and this may allow us to let Simic leave or use him as a make weight in another deal. Lets also think about money, if we got Bonera cheaply it will mean more money to spend on the better players we want.

If the price was right, this will be a good bit of business. Plus if the worst comes to the worst we can always sell him.

yep hitmanq8 is right to an extent. I do think Bonera can bring his game up a few notches though.

Unexpected signing but a welcome one indeed. Hasn't been too fantastic the last year or two, but bear in mind at 25 and under the guidance of Maldini, Billy and co, he could finally reach a level where he is a first team player at a club like Milan. Personally, I'm looking at him more for his use at RB, but his versatility is another welcomed addition.

Welcome Daniele

My points exactly. In the past 2 seasons he was an avreage player but his main advantage is that he's 24 not 34 like Favalli. I think he's better as a CB though (look at Kaladze, even Simic) as for a new Cafu, we need someone else.

Ok, Favalli and Bonera We are showing the world the we mean business. If you have reached the age of 25 and base your career that you were promising when in highschool, then the so called potential might not be much more then a bluff. All in all my feeling is that we tried hard for Oddo, but didnīt want to pay so we settled for Bonera, which is what we do nowadays - we settle... We could have gotten a highly rated and offensive minded RB in Oddo but it would have meant that we needed to invest so instead we phoned Parma and they had a guy that they could easily "recommend". Some sources say that Simic went in the other way, but that is pure nonsense, since that would be something that Inter and Inter alone might have done.

Ok, so we now have Favalli and Bonera, all that is needed now is Ibra and Hello!!! Germany here I come, time for some cheep alcohol...

Milan get real now, please... so far

If we look back to the recent squad that won the WC2006..then we have 2 other young players ;

Andrea Barzagli, birth May, 1981
Christian Zaccardo, birth December 1981

The rest are not too young anymore :
Alessandro Nesta, birth March 1976
Marco Materazzi, birth August 1973
Massimo Oddo, birth June 1976
Gianluca Zambrotta, birth February 1977
Fabio Cannavaro, birth September 1973
Fabio Grosso, birth November 1977

If we prefer to have another Italian defender then there are not too much of a choice ..or we can find from under 21 squad...

IMHO Barzagli is quite OK when he played once or twice to sub Materazzi (who actually sub Nesta) rather than Zaccardo who "scored" a brilliant goal onto Buffon's net

I think if we can get another 2 defenders and 2 good strikers would just adequate for the time being...plus Buffon would be even better....

AWESOME NEWS...its taken a couple years too long for this to happen in my opinion, but its an excellent acquistion.

Hes a young defender who`ll have hunger to be playing regurlaly for milan and also to force his way into the italy team. I think its really good signing.

I for one dont think he`ll play at right back, i think hes primarily seen as a center back and if need be can fill in at right back.

The good thing is that Bonera can be affective as a CB also, but the ba dthink is that now we will have defensive RB on Gattuso's side. Of course, we all know our LB's are Jankulovski and Serginho. This looks like a copy of Stam, central defender that can play RB. But dont expect any great runs or crosses by this guy. On the defensive he is very good. Im pleased with this, good work Braida and Galliani. now get me Oddo!

this is amazing buy considering he was heavily linked with us one or two seasons ago and this season not even a rumour linked him to us! suddenly and quietly milan have announced that bonera signs for us! i am sure we buy him in cheap price(since he is not in the limelight recently), he is italian, young, former italian international, versatile , this is smart buy! welldone milan! welcome bonera!

i believe our buying season is almost over, probably only one new striker coming and thats all!
