here is going to be a break for 4 days i think i read somewhere.. i think this will also give them time to think about how change things for the future.. there is talk about changing the way stadiums are so that rival fans can be completely separated... its just sad that this is how mankind is.. Well in the UK there is a huge rise in Violent crime, its sad how stupid idiots go to far and ruin it for everyone else..

Karim, it's not simply Catania Calcio's fault... and certainly not just their problem... don't try to use this to put your team above the mud... it's a shame of a higher level.

Folks, this is the kind of stuff that happens when the federation is weak and lacking testicular fortitude.
I have to agree with the players. End all competitions now. Italian teams participating in Europe, forfeit. No teams in Europe all next season as well. This is my opinion. Something has to be done right now. What specifically, I don't know. All I know is the Italian federation must come down hard this time. Or else we will see something that will be far worse than Heysel or Hillsborough, guaranteed. Or FIFA or UEFA will come in and ban Italy out of everything for a long time and then things like AC Milan, the San Siro, these things we love so much-will wither away and die slow painful deaths. If that happened I'm not sure I'll be too upset about it either. Very simply, I'm sad, embarrassed, disgusted, and ashamed. Some of us here are anxiously wondering when we'll get back to normal service. Shame on you! People are dead and injured for stupid, stupid reasons! Pause and take a look around! Calcio is a joke, a tragic joke run by animals!

I never thought I'd say this, but canceling the rest of the season seems reasonable right now. It is the only way to teach Italian football a lesson. Calcio is a mess, an absolute mess. Something needs to be done. RIP Filippo Raciti.

Seems like he didn't die because of the explosion itself, but because of the inhalation of smoke and the chemicals in the bomb... in his car... he was rushed to the hospital during the second half of the game, and pronounced death around the time the game finished.

This hurts guys. Really hurts.
Why do they do this? Why do I have to wake up and read headlines like this? There is so much more going on in the world and just, argh, people wake up! And for a fan like me who's never even stepped foot in Italy or ever had the gift of being able to watch your beloved team play right before you eyes...man, do these hooligans know how much people would give to experience calcio like they get to EVERY SINGLE DAY? Damn. Passion is a dangerous thing, no doubt. But this has been going on for a long while now...as much as it kills me to say it, if suspending Serie A and all involvement in international games (for the moment...I hope) is the way to fix this problem then let's do it. -------------- Oh and SANT your siggy really fits the situation...well for me anyway. I'm trully sad with the news of this suspension and the officers death. "It must be terrible to have me, and then lose me" Last edited by curry chicken; 02-02-2007 at 22:12. |

I correct my previous explanation, based on Gazzetta dello Sport... seems like the game was stopped because of the heavy smoke of the bengals thrown onto the field... players had to run back to the dressing rooms because the smoke was too dense and their eyes were burning...
After the game ended, the Catania supporters waited outside for the Palermo supporters... the Police was trying to protect Palermo supporters and buses, when a bomb thrown by Catania people to Palermo's, landed inside Inspector Raciti's car... causing his death.

I don't know what exactly will be achieved by completely closing the rest of the season. Calling for such harsh actions, at this time, without any investigations is simply absurd. If the whole season is called off, the poor clubs will get further poor, the debt of most of the clubs will remain stagnant (it might even accumulate), players will leave (Not only stars but also grooming youngster and maturing players) and what not. Whole Calcio would have to be started again and it will take years to reach the pedigree that we are at. Just imagine what would happen to the people who will be affected by this premature ban, financially. It will be a collapse of an industry. Lets also not forget that not all the teams in Calcio are as strong as Juve to go through what they have gone through or may be even much worse.
Let the investigations begin into this particular matter and let the committee make decisions on what has to be done. The most immediate comments made by the Lega chief are that there is a lot of politics involved in Calcio and particularly in this incident. The ideal thing would be to clean the political scum from all the clubs individually. I hope Fifa and Uefa don't act like a bunch of a-holes and ban all the Italian teams. It would be wise on their part to mediate into the affairs and assits the Lega and FIGC in making decisions and setting up minimum standards. For the moment though, lets just stay calm and hope that all goes well.

Agree, they shouldn't end the season, and will not, specially since Inter is gonna take the scudetto... but they need to make a pause and give this the importance it's due...
Mr. Raciti leaves behind a wife (crying in the pictures showed by Gazzetta) and two small children...

This is all that needs to be said to some enabling fools... It will take a incredible tragedy, hundreds of dead bodies, before the Italian federation does anything substantial. And yes, I'm talking starting from scratch, whether UEFA/FIFA imposed or through the federation. The English did it, and hooliganism there is as insignificant a factor as it's ever been.
