The more I think about it, the less likely I think any one of the 3 strikers you mentioned will be here this summer. Benzema is too expensive for the 6 richest club in the world (makes no sense to me, but it is what it is); Drogba and Amauri seem like the perfect fit, but they are both aging and that is a good enough excuse for the managment to refuse to sign them. To me, Drogba and Amauri are just like Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Shevchenko last summer, they are smoke screens. Management throw their names out there to make the fans feel like they are going to actually do something in the market for the first time in a long time so they will buy tickets. As soon as the ticket sales are up, they will come back and talk about how perfect the team is and don't need any new players; if the ticket sales doesn't go up, they will say that they don't have any funds available for transfer activities and thus won't be able to sign anyone. I remember last summer, when the media and management were talking about how we were going to sign a huge name striker, we ended up signing David Suazo. And Galliani came out saying "I know the fans aren't satisfied, but he really is the player we needed!" This summer, the managment will play the exact same trick all over again. At the end of the day, I think the only reason Drogba and Amauri and Benzema won't be signed here is because of their price tags, not because of the various excuses management make up. So, who do I think they will end up signing? Shevchenko sounds like a good choice because of his declining price. Other than him, just look for players who cost less than 15 million. By all means, we should be able to afford someone much better than that, but it is just not going to happen and we might as well face the facts on that one. |
