Yes, picking the top 3 and not explicitly saying who is 1st, 2nd or 3rd. For a single game and over the season most presences in the top 3 might give a good indication. Top 3 votes for important matches can count as doubles.
Just an idea

This is a great idea and i think it will stimulate alot of debate/conversation where people have to actually back up their choices with moments from the match; i'm very excited to be a part of this, and am trying to think of ways to have an accurate and fair scoring system. I think this will allow us to have a realistic look at what are the strengths and weaknesses of the current side, along these lines do you think we should have the bottom 2 or 3 also? i mean, it is only fair to look at both sides of the match. plus, it makes for a more fair look at what we really need for our mercato, rather than just relying on rumor or what people would like in a fantasy world.

I like this idea. But have you thought of merely having one vote for Man of the Match. Make a poll to find out who people think was Man of the Match?

Then at the end of the season one could see which player was Man of the match most times during the season and that would be the MVP of the season.

What do you think?

^^^ That takes away the consistency factor I was looking for. Look at my post on the first page about Pirlo and Nesta to see what I mean.

Very well. Just a suggestion.

I'm off to Toronto today for university and I'm not sure how soon I'll have an internet connection. The season starts next weekend so if people could post their opinions concerning this idea. I'll view them asap and maybe we could come to a final decision concerning our MVP procedure. Be back soon hopefully!

Perhaps it’s possible, as Rico said, to have man of the match polls after each game, and still maintain the consistency factor. I’m not familiar with the systems, but we could count the percentages that each player has received in the polls after each game and then add it all together after the season.

Example:

Game 1
Pirlo 23 % of all votes for man of the match
Nesta 15 %
Kaká 12 %
Ronaldinho 10 %
Zambrotta 9 %
Flamini 8 %

Game 2
Kaká 36 %
Ambrosini 15 %
Nesta 11 %
Ronaldinho 10 %
Pato 7 %
Inzaghi 7 %

Games 1 + 2 total
Kaká 48
Nesta 26
Pirlo 23
Ronaldinho 20
Ambrosini 15
Zambrotta 9
Flamini 8
Pato 7
Inzaghi 7

I don’t know if there’s a flaw somewhere in this system, but as far as I can see, it’d certainly include the consistency of each player over a season.
