Milan should beat Livorno without any trouble. But as fans, pls don't get too excited as Livorno is really not the Inter or Juve or Genoa or Napoli.

I think given the performances of our fullbacks in recent weeks I'd make some changes ahead of the match in 2 weeks. Many of my thoughts are based on improving our fullback situation, and given Dinho HAS to play, I've kept him in too.

I'd try one of the following...

---------------Storari-----------------
Abate-----Nesta-----Thiago----Zambro
--------Flamini---Pirlo---Ambro--------
-----------------Dinho----------------
--------------------------Pato--------
---------------Hunterlaar--------------

Whilst we've got less manpower coming down the right, Abate and Flamini are more dynamic than Ambro and Zambro and so we should have greater potency down the right than we've seen until now.

The other system would be...

-----------------Storari------------------
Zambro-----Nesta-----Thiago-----Albertazzi
-------------------Pirlo-------------------
-------Abate-----------------Flamini------
-------------------Dinho------------------
-----------------------------Pato---------
------------------Huntelaar----------------

This system puts less emphasis on fullbacks pressing forward as the midfield has naturally greater width. I also want to give Albertazzi a chance. It would be more important in this system the midfield stays tight and works really hard for each other, as Flamini (our ballwinner) will need to push up regularly.

Whatever we do, we need to improve our fullback situation desperately (and we can't hope for a signing now). We also need to improve keeping a tight midfield. If to achieve this Leo has to get a rope and tie the players together, then so be it (those who remember Sacchi's Milan will know what I mean ). Finally, Dinho must move. Despite being good against Siena, he's been very static so far this season. He must look to move around the pitch if he's going to be effective.

jankulovski is not milan quality (anymore...?). and will only get worse as he isnt getting younger. I would give Albertazzi a try, young player who can only get better!!! Also Abate was one of our best in pre season, young player who plays with all his heart, he FIGHTS for the team! he should also be given a chance.

dinho should also play as he can and will tear small teams open!

Storari

Zambrotta - Nesta - Thiago - Albertazzi

Abate - Seedorf - Flamini

ronaldinho

Pato - Huntelaar

YES! But perhaps Onyewu for Thiago. Silva really played bad last match..... I like Albertazzi in there though! After the way janko played, this is the rght choice.

I think we should change the way we play. Nobody else wants to play a deep-lying playmaker anymore, perhaps only Ancelotti. Our game is based on Pirlo for so long that we're like open book. Because Rino is out, I think we should alter our midfield like this.

-----------------------------Flamini-----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
----------Seedorf-------------------------------Pirlo------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Ronaldinho---------------------------

Or, against some though opposition, away games perhaps:

-----------------------------Flamini-----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
-------Gattuso/Ambro----------------------------Pirlo------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Ronaldinho---------------------------

The BIG problem is actually our midfield. Ronaldinho is too far for our midfield three and he has no one to combine with. At the same time defense isn't protected well, at least two goals we conceded from an open play against Inter were our midfield faults. Playing Pirlo or Seedorf or both further upfront will make our midfield more compact and Ronny will be able to link up with someone. Nowdays, Flamini and Gattuso both can play in front of defense. Gattuso actually ain't that crappy passer he once was, he can play simple passes, both short and long.

Another thing Leonardo should solve is LB position. Because he's obviously give up on Antonini as a starter, I really hope he will try Abate as a full-back.

So, to sum, our team for the rest of the season should look like this, in my opinion:

Abbiati - Abate, Nesta, T. Silva, Zambortta - Gattuso/Flamini/Ambrosini - Seedorf/Flamini, Pirlo/Ambrosini - Ronny - Huntelaar, Pato.

Pirlo cant play on the wing, we would get slaughtered there.

Flamini has had his best games for Milan on the flanks.

I cant see Gatusso fitting in anymore. We are going to spend the season wondering how to get Huntelaar and Ronaldhnio more involved with play as the ball wont get to them and they wont go and receive it with the confidence or ability Pato does. For this reason we need all three of our midfielders to have technique and capabililty to play with the ball.

Its quite clear, we wont be running this season. So our best hope is to hold on to the ball and the best players for this are Pirlo, Seedorf and Flamini.

Gatusso was awesome when we had other players making things happen, but now we need everyone to play with the ball and get it to Ronnie and Huntelaar.

imo, Gattuso exit, roaring full of rage, is a clear symptom of nervousness or of mistrust to Leo. I think R80 play a role in the matter. He doesn't run, he walks, he doesn't cover (easy to say Borriello is not a striker, I want to see you running for two as he did and if you don't believe me, try to ask to our mids if they prefer Dinho or Borri) and the most important thing is that he is not able to give us the jump of quality, the jump of which we absolutely need. Dinho only has to work hard if he really want to return to be a player (no more mojitos it would be a great start for him too) and if he plays in those athletic conditions, it's only a big Leo mistake. Livorno is a small fighting team, they will make us spit blood. So, I am not so sure that this is the right match to face keeping the mummy on the ground now that Gattuso is out, leaving 3 (pardon, 2 and a half, we are talking about Pirlo) men in the mid.
Abate Flamini Pirlo Seedorf Ambro, these are our midfielders, i don't think it is possible for Leo to devise something new, the only variant is Janku on the left instead of Seedorf or Ambro.

I read on milannews.it today that janku will be dropped for livorno and zambro goes to lb with abate in at rb.also flamini will be on right of midfield 3 with ambro in for suspended rino.i also would love to see luca get a chance,at left back, instead of zambro.with abate and flamini giving us good strength, pace and technical ability on the right i think to have luca and ambro or seedorf trying the same on left would be refreshing.i like luca antonini,i think with a run of games he could get some confidence,he is good at overlapping runs, same as abate on the right.though his crossing could be improved but that may come with games.it would also re-direct some of our attacks away from the centre where it has been dissapointing imo.but i think zambro will get in front of him,and probably janku aswel, unfortunatley.i also hear that seedorf is scouring amsterdam to find a quality pipe and dressing gown to match his famous slippers...

I welcome the idea of replacing Janku with Zambro and bringing in Abate at fullback. But Ambrosini offers nothing that a combination of Flamini and Pirlo dont. I think its a perfect opertunity to try Janku in midfield again.

Abbiati
Abate Nesta Thiago Zambro
Flamini Pirlo Janku
Ronnie
Pato Huntelaar

We are so screwed. The loss to inter, the worst in 35 years, is still stuck in my throat...so I cannot even begin to believe we will take any points from this game, superior quality we may have, but grit and determination we sorely lack.

So, once a team goes one up on us, I dont see us fighting back...a side that can hit on the counter, will score on us easily.

I am betting we finish in the bottom half of the table this season.

FORZA MIIIIIILAN regardless.

I really really do not want Pirlo to play. He didnt run, and even with the ball he was quite useless.
So: Seedorf, Ambro, Flamini, Abate.
If we are playing Abate at RB, which I strongly favor, we can have a Seedorf-Ambro-Flamini midfield. Or if Abate is not going to play RB, then maybe Abate-Seedorf-Flamini.

I'd like Huntelaar as a starter.... we should be able to beat Livorno, but that doesnt mean we are capable of competing for CL or Serie A.

Until, Rino lost his marbles I thought Pirlo was doing ok. A few mispalced passes, but he even made a few tackles.

You guys do realise he is the only player we have that is capable of palying behind the strikers if Ronnie doesnt get better.

No matter what people think of him, there isnt a player in the world that has been able to stop him getting the ball. If we played him further up the pitch like he does for Italy, he has the composure and accuracy to hit Pato, Huntelaar or the goal.

Seedorf is the other option, but he simply doesnt have the accuracy or movement Pirlo does. Pirlo is always ready to receive the ball. Then we could play Seedorf in front of the defence. that would work because he wouldnt need to run (Something he doesnt want to do anymore) and he is as strong as a horse.
