why do you like Australia??? Uruguay was the first world champion, and they defeated Brazil in the 50's final in the same MARACANÁ with 180000 brazilians watching (suicides in Brazil increased 100% in those next weeks in Brazil), they just had some bad moments and being 5th in South America is much harder than it is for Australia to be first in the Oceanic qualifiying.
Uruguay has great characters in Football history like Enzo Francescoli (considered by Zidane as god when he was a child, Varela (who scored the goal for defeating Brazil in '50), Walter Gomez, etc.
Oh and i forgot Uruguay won the first football tournament of an Olympic game in Paris.

s++t, this is so sad...this is like if a part of argentinians are out of the cup, because uruguayans and us are very close, a lot of uruguayans live here, and a lot of uruguayan players play here.. well doesnt matter now. I only hope we get to play with Australia in the cup.....will avenge our brothers!!!!

Oh, and it's awsome that after what FIFA did to Maradona in 1994 we still want to go to a world cup, just to see what they will do in case we have big chances to win it.

Do u remember Belgium-Brazil (1/8 finals on WC 2002) ? Wilmots headed the 1-0 for Belgium in the goal 1min before HT. Prendergast, some idiot Jamaican referee, dissalowed it because Wilmots punched Roque Junior. Although on video view, there is no fault at all ! Belgium was ripped off and Brazil further to the quarter finals.

i gave a lot of reasons, but i think the most powerfull one is that uruguayans are like our brothers, because as i said a lot of uruguayans live here, alot of uruguayan players play or have played here in Argentina like Forlán ( he grew up in Independiente), and there are a lot of uruguayan artists here very loved and our grates football journalist is Victor Hugo Morales who is uruguayan.
It is a matter of blood you see, but if you are not satisfied i will repeat them:
Uruguay was the first world champion, and they defeated Brazil in the 50's final in the same MARACANÁ with 180000 brazilians watching (suicides in Brazil increased 100% in those next weeks in Brazil), they just had some bad moments and being 5th in South America is much harder than it is for Australia to be first in the Oceanic qualifiying.

Diego ''Cachavacha'' Forlan, top scorer of last spanish league miss the world cup, as well as aother great players like Paolo Montero, Alvaro Recoba, Darío Silva,''el Chengue'' Morales, ''el Lolo'' Estoyanoff, Chevanton, etc, i dont mean australian players are not good, but i just mean that Australia compeets with teams like Samoa, or Tonga that i think are still learning that the ball is that white round thing, but southamerica is so much harder, all teams have chances and that makes you have another rithm of competition, wich in Oceania i dont think there is. Anyway, Uruguayans are our brothers, and Australia is part of the british commonwealth so, go Uruguay .

of course i remember!!! i wonder how much are they going to help Brazil in this world cup, anyway i think a european team will win this time, and i think the number 1 candidate is Germany, even if they arent being so good lately, but if i had to choose an european team to be champion i will like it to be Holland. Oh and i forgot to talk about Argentina. After our 2 friendly matches played recently, i think we are going to be out in the first round loosing with maybe... Togo, i cant believe Pekerman took out Ayala vs England, and the way we losted was just cold, with no blood in our players, i would prefer to still have Bielsa instead of this, that could be worst.

On the road...On the road.....On the road T&T going germany!!!!

I am sooooooooooo proud of my country....we may never win a world cup in my lifetime, but being able to go to one is just as great......after years and years of suffering...the corruption of the game against haiti in 1974....the "alleged" sell-out of the game against USA on Nov 19th 1989 ....finally ...FINALLY we got it right.....finally we have reached the big stage.....

this is such a blessed day

I'm South American too of Italian descent and I know about the similarities that share this two countries... Argentina and Uruguay... similar music and similar cooking... same style of cowboys and bbq... they both love a kind of te drank in their particular and ceremonial way called mate (I hope's written this way), have this almost exactly alike accent... and more particular of all they have the greatest majority of Italian descendants of all latin america... and both are actually very close to Italia... something that makes me think that probably Italy felt their desqualification someway either... at least this is and here goes my conclusion... Italia although equalized today's game later on they looked a little distracted, shy and down... and the only one with real fire for our side was Camo like on revenge (although he couldn't get it at full heat) but still couldn't get the others attentive enough... so many things were lacking today... (in which any media pundit could conclude a thousand bad things of course without accounting that we took it as an another rotation test...) but also around a third of the stadium was empty even when we should've been the happiest people on earth... Me, I've never been such a fan of Uruguay but I appreciate their quality and know that their tradition on World Cups has been more historical than of any other country going in it... is a very pity and shame... it only shows that this game is becoming more and more... even!...

I did not ask you why you like Uruguay, I have the utmost respect to your choice. And in return I want you to respect my choice, that is all.
The question was not "Why do you like Uruguay?" Instead, it was "Am I asking you why you like Uruguay?"

i saw the Turkey-Switzerland game and the referee didn't do much wrong for Turkey. It was an obvious penalty for Switzerland, and Turkey got a real light penalty, it was more like a schwalbe from Serhat Akin. Also, the handsball of the swiss player was not ment to. I think De Bleeckere whistled a rather good game. Switzerland deserves to go through. And it's horrible what happened again in Turkey : some players from Switzerland were hit and punched by some Turkisch players and officials. I'm sorry but it's always the same in Turkey, the fans who throw things at players, riots between fans, players, ...
