the thing with torres, his price tag is so high because he is so resellable. If he comes in and dosn't do what we hoped we could still offload him for over 20m easily.
However I'm with most people in thinking Tevez is exactly what we need. whether it's possible to sign him I don't know.

Torres is a gem but he has a lot of thing to improve. He seems to be very inconsistent today
He is not worth money Altético wants for him... maybe in future three or four years, but now he's only a forward with good potential, nothin else. Tevez is way better... though more expencive...By the way Torres reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo... tall quick and skillful, though quite immature... |

What we just need is a younster with enormous potential that can grow and improve with us, we must target the future, enough of quick-fix solutions...!

BTW: is anyone here thinking that we can grab a top class young striker for less than 30 - 35 M?

yeah - cassano, saviola, and if my scouting is good, Kuijt too.
And before you say that none of these is world class, tell me why do you think Torres is one and with what he's any better than the above? What makes you think that he has a better chance of becoming a world class striker one day than any of those above? Last edited by zlatanov; 19-06-2006 at 16:44. |

Well, I guess Torres is a whole lot better than any of them, which are not top class players in my opinion.

He is indeed a player we should be interested in but that doesn't mean that we have to put a whole fortune on the line for him. Every player, great or just plain good, has a price and also has a REASONABLE price on his head. 20 mil or so, given current market conditions would be a reasonble price for Torres but to speak of 40, and who knows by the end of WC maybe even more, now that's an investment our club can deffinitely do without. A winning team is build around team ethics, work, and sacrifice, not around individual starlets. My point is that we can have a CL winning team with or without expensive purchases like Torres, all we need to do is be smart about who we buy and not let ourselves get entangled in the everyday hype about some player, who may or may not be the next best thing since sliced bread. |

I've been following Torres and Tevez for a few years now since they were both young and the only advantage and both have potential.
Torres is a taller and probably faster than Tevez, but I don't think he's ready for Italy at this stage. He isn't the strongest player on the ball, nor is he necessarily able to produce key plays (final balls etc) consistently at the moment. He also lacks a little composure at times in front of goal when he is under pressure, which in Italy will be happening regularly. All of these are areas in which he can develop (similar to how Sheva was developed at Milan). Tevez on the other hand for me is something a little special. Granted he hasn't experienced European football yet, but his ability is phenomenal. He can play as a focal point in an attack, but an interesting aspect to his game is his ability to drop deep to develop team attacks. Both him and Torres should be able to play off of Gila up front, but whilst Torres will drop into wide areas like Sheva, Tevez plays a little more centrally, meaning Gila's ability to hold up the ball at the edge of opponents' penalty areas will be great for Tevez to run onto layoffs. I must say Tevez for me has all the qualities that we need at Milan, pace, power, strength, technical ability on and off the ball and a great workrate, which few players can match and is only 22, but playing as if he's at the very peak of his career. His statistics in South America speak for themselves and really its no coincidence he's been voted best player in Brazil (and South America) a few times already. I think in this guy we're really looking at someone who can become one of the very greatest ever. Simply put, I'd happily accept Torres at Milan as I think he'll be a very good player in the future, but offer me Tevez and right now I wouldn't take anyone else over him (possibly not even a proven Ukranian). |

Tevez has a price more than 50mil, so Milan will never go for him. Torres iisnt perfect, he needs to work on precise shooting, playing even wider with Milan and so on... but - Torres iis better than Cassano, Kuijt, Saviola... There are 2 options Torres and Ibra. Milan seems to go for Buffon and maybe even Zambrotta so that could mean we wil not go for Ibra. If we can gewt Torres for 30 mil I'll be happy for that deal. The man needs a little finishing practice and calmness and he is ready to go.

Saviola is dead man now... he is small and not enough skillful and fast as for a small striker... Kuijt too old IMO to improve to Milan material. Cassano is the one we need but regarding his attitude... and will to stay in Real... donno if he is a real option this summer. Tevez or Torres are way more likely.. |

Why would Atletiko sell Torres for 20-30 mil if there is a good chance to sell him for twice that amount after the world cup - especially with free-splashing clubs like Chelski interested in him? And if Torres doesn't exactly set the WC on fire, Atletico doesn't lose anything - they simply won't be able to raise his price but would still be able to get just as much as they would have before the WC. |

and one more thing, Torres sems to rush in many cases. He simply needs some experience and safer passing. But I can easely see him and Gila working well together. AND - we will not pay 40 mil for him. Remember Gila's case, Parma wanted 60 mil and we got him for what we wanted. I know Parma has a difficult financial situation and they needed to sell, but Milan has great relationship with Atletico and we can get a decent deal. Plus, if Dida goes to Man Utd, im sure Torres is ours.

Guys, you have to realize that all these so called "reasons" that you point out why Torres or Tevez are better than Cassano, Saviola, Kuijt, etc are pure "speculations" ... these are simply "best guesses" made by people who have dif opinions. There is nothing certain about either of Torres or Tevez ever living up to the expectations fans have for them. Just like it's speculative to say that Saviola or Kuijt will set Serie A and CL with Milan on fire, same goes for saying that Torres or Tevez would do that.
All these players are young and talanted (btw, rae, Kuijt is 24, I think, same age as Saviola and Cassano) and have yet to assert themsleves as top, world-class strikers. Talent, however, may take onto many different paths influenced by many different conditions and circumsatnces. In other words, a taented player may very well never make it to becoming a top, world class striker alla Shevchenko/Henry. That's a risk not only for cassano, Saviola, Kuijt, etc but also for Torres and Tevez. The one major difference is that the price of any of those three is below 10 mil, the price for Torres seems to have gone up to 40 mil, while Corinthians are rumoured to have refused 35 or so mil for Tevez (from Chelski) and seem to be asking for astronomical amounts of 50-70 mil something like that. Now, tell me, if you have to take a risk anyway - cause any of those players are indded a risk - why would you risk 50 instead of say 10 mil. And those players that would cost us 10 mil are far from lacking talent, on the contrary, they have lots and lots of it (just look at their record), and anyone who says that they don't is simply speculating with opinions, rather than using hard facts. |

I don't believe that only bids of 50 million will be accepted by Corinthians. If we make enough noise about it and get him excited about playing for us, then he will want to move and Corinthians can't stand in his way. He may have a buy out clause of some ridiculous figure, but that's exactly what it is a buyout clause, not a transfer fee.
If we sat down with them and started talking figures, i think an offer of £20 million plus Amorouso would be very tempting for them. All these clubs are the same, they talk about the big figures but it hardly ever happens like that. He has no European experience, no CL experience, a small number of appearances and goals for his country (senior team) ... i don't see what there is to fear about his transfer fee. All these ideas of inflamed prices are ridiculous, just to scare people off. If we went in hard and showed them the money so to speak, they would find it hard to resist. Kuyt is 26/27 i think Zlat
