A Gallas & Nesta CB partnership will do more for us than using Gallas as a full-back.
The fact we never asked about him during the Shevchenko deal doesn't surprise me, i think we would have just been trying to get as much as possible for him and we might have had other targets at the time. Any deal including Gallas would have lowered the money we got dramatically because of Chelsea's estimation of him. Now it's a slightly different story, the results of the trials have come and gone and we have a chance to get into the CL group stages. Plus we also know that other targets have gone (Thuram, Cannavaro), so now if we want we can go back to Chelsea and hope that Gallas puts his foot down and gets the move away from London that he wants. I think he's the best CB on the market at the moment, we'd be mad to miss out on him and hopefully the board know this.

Williams Gallas' agent claims Arsenal want to sign the unsettled Chelsea defender.
France international Gallas is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge after missing The Blues' pre-season trip to America. His no-show has infuriated Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who plans to deal with the issue upon his return to England. Gallas is unhappy at losing his number 13 shirt to new signing Michael Ballack and has also spoken out about his desire for a new challenge. He is entering the final season of his contract in West London, but has been offered a new, long-term deal by the Premiership champions. However, the versatile defender is looking increasingly likely to quit the club after his agent Pierre Frelot reiterated the player's eagerness to move. Frelot claims The Gunners want the 28-year-old and that could refuel rumours of a possible part-exchange deal involving Ashley Cole. "William has decided to leave," Frelot told the News of the World. "Arsenal are interested and we have to find an agreement with Chelsea, even if I know they will do everything to keep him at Stamford Bridge. "Chelsea have made us a very good offer, but William would like to go. "However, I don't know if Chelsea will agree to sell him to one of their greatest rivals." Mourinho has yet to field any offers for Gallas, but is continuing his quest to bring in left back Cole from Arsenal. skysports |

Personally i don't see Kaladze as a great CB, the times i've seen him he's been all over the place. Good to have as a stand by, but that's about it.
If Mourinho sold Gallas to Arsenal it would go against everything he's ever said about not wanting to strengthen his rivals. This is why he only sold Duff to Newcastle. However, it does depend how deeply he wants Ashley Cole, if he wants him badly enough then he might let Gallas go, he's arrogant enough to do something like that.

If we really wanted Gallas in the first place, wouldn't it have made sense to include him in the Sheva deal when we had some leverage? The only explanation other than that we're not interested, is that we're hoping for Chelsea to grow sick of him and more or less kick him out. But since Chelsea obviously don't need money, I think it's likely that they'll make an example out of him and let him rot in the stands a year.

From Sky sports today.........
William Gallas claims Chelsea are still standing in the way of the player's desire for a transfer away from Stamford Bridge. Gallas has long been linked with a move from The Blues, with the speculation increasing this week after the France international failed to report for a pre-season training camp in Los Angeles. Blues manager Jose Mourinho has publicly admitted his disappointment at Gallas's course of action, but has still refused to call time on the defender's career in SW6. But Gallas remains adamant that he is hankering after a switch from the Premiership champions. The 28-year-old's agent claimed this weekend that rumoured suitors Arsenal are monitoring the player, who also reportedly interests Milan and Real Madrid. "I want to leave Chelsea but it's not just down to me," Gallas told French television on Sunday. "Chelsea absolutely want me to stay with them - we have to keep talking." Gallas has recently lost his favoured number 13 shirt to new signing Michael Ballack and the former Marseille man revealed the club's decision has widened the split between the two parties. "A lot of things did not please me," he said. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger may be perturbed in his pursuit, however, after the player admitted he would be particularly keen on a switch to the continent. "You have to maybe leave the Premier League one day - there are other championships," added Gallas. "Let's say that if I go to Spain, then I would need to adapt and that takes time." |

It's good news that he does want to leave. The next step is for him or another club (hopefully us) to convince Chelsea to let him go.
It's also good news that it looks like he still wants to move abroad and may prefer this move to staying in England. This is something he's said for a long time. The only thing is that he uses Spain as an example, maybe a subtle hint to a Spanish club ? Lets wait and see ![]()

I think there were some rumours of him being spotted at Milanello but not sure if there was any truth in it. We seemd very keen on him 2-3 months ago but recently our interest in him seems to have gone underground ... hope its the calm period before a storm
