I'm not sure about that*** ... I don't expect Pirlo to be a sub, of course, and I don't want him to become a sub. It's just a way we could insert back Gourcuff in the team, and this way, I don't see Pirlo playing like one of our DM behind 4 players who attack ... especially against teams like Inter, Juventus, and co !!

Anyway, on some games, it's something possible, and so, we can expect Gourcuff to come back ... I don't see why Gourcuff couldn't come back when I see people claiming Diego or Elano ...

PS: Of course, like you said, it's all nice in theory, no idea if it would be really nice ... and Ancelotti is better than me to know this kind of things !! lol

*** that = Pirlo - Rino - Ambro/Seedorf + Kaka and R80
Ambro will be one year older, as Seedorf (and everybody else actually lol), and I really hope that Ancelotti won't use Seedorf next year as a first team player ... in another way, I don't expect the club to keep Seedorf (who speaks a lot in medias about what he thinks about the team or players, I don't like that) if Ancelotti says he doesn't want him anymore as a first team player but just as a sub (and I don't expect Seedorf to want to stay).

Gourcuff will have to play 10 times better than he has for him to put Pirlo onto the bench. We are talking about the man Cruyff called the best deep lying midfielder in the world. A man who has been central to Milan's recent success in terms of play and tactis. A man who has inspired so many players to try and play in the Pirlo position and fail.

^^ Xavi and Fabregas seem to be doing pretty well in the "Pirlo role" and that's off the top of my head without even trying to think. One could well argue they're doing better but I won't go there before I'm shot and fed to the vultures.

To be fair you make a good point. I would hasten to say though that Pirlo was fundamental for Milan and Italy in two CL successes and a World Cup win.

Fabregas hasnt won a thing for Arsenal in that position and has struggled to get into the Spanish first 11 so he cant be compared to Pirlo.

Xavi was core to Spains Euro Championship win which is no small feat, but hasnt had the same success at club level. He didnt even win a starting place in the side that played Arsenal in the final.

Pirlo has been a legend in that position and no one has come close to matching him yet. Comaprisons have come and gone. In the past it was Alonso, and more recently Montilivio. Pirlo is Pirlo and although it sometimes seems the grass is greener on the other side lets not forget what we have in our own garden.

Fabregas has struggled to get into Spain's national team because he has Xavi AND Iniesta in front of him...two of the BEST CM's in the world. Who else does Italy have...? Cigarini is injured, Dessena et al are still not experienced enough. Out of the current crop, there's De Rossi but he's more of a well balanced DM than a playmaker. After De Rossi...?

Xavi helped Barca win 3 La Liga's 1 CL + the european championship this summer. As playmakers they all "by definition" do ball distribution for their team. If we look at some stats though we can see that Cesc has BY FAR the best "direct impact" on his team especially over the last two seasons.

Cesc: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...=38886&cc=5901
Xavi: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...=12907&cc=5901
Pirlo: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...=11888&cc=5901

I'm not knocking Pirlo...I'm just trying to show that there are others at his level. That is all

the only reason that it might look that Fabregas and Xavi are better than Pirlo is only because Milan, obviously have more quality in midfield than Barca and Arsenal(last year exception, we were in a bad form..)

and i'm not talking about the Gattuso - Pirlo - Ambro, rather the Gattuso - Pirlo - Seedorf, the fit Seedorf, which saw the playmaking roles on both Pirlo and Seedorf and lets not forget Kaka.

look at the stats you posted, Xavi is far better than Cesc, he's helping his team score AND makes assits.

still, Cesc is still 20 or 21, and he has a bright future, but he's needs to leave Arsenal, or Arsenal need to bring more exprienced players and start winning ****.

I'd like to see Fabregas in Milan, but lets be realistic, he's not gonna get Pirlo's spot, nor Flamini's and he surely wont take the on-fire Gattuso's spot either, so he's probably better end up in another team, unless Ambrosini retires

I agree with kastriot. The only place for Gourcuf with Milan's condition right now (Kaka and R80) is left CM.

With only Gourcuf's performance like these couple of months, I still doubt Carlo will use him instead other players. Gourcuf needs to show SUPER performance with consistency with Bordeaux and I doubt he can do it in only 1 season.

I am getting more sure that he should be again loaned out next season before he come to Milan or just sell him with high price (with hoping that he can maintain his performance until end of the year).

You know whats even worse, Gorky can only fight for seedorfs place, but when Pirlo comes back there is not going to be place for seedorf either. So i guess Gorky will have to compete against carlos system...cuz he con not be Pirlo. If his going to play carlo will have to adapt a new system, 1.Without Pirlo or 2. Without one of Rinho or Flamini. The later is very unlikely cuz, lets face it ...we are not going to find a new Nesta and Maldini, so we could play with only Pirlo and Rinho.

The system without Pirlo is more likely to happen, cuz we have been doing fine without him till now, but I guess we will find the answer in the upcoming games when Pirlo comes back.
Then we will see if its better with Pirlo or its better with Seedorf/Gorky in the midfield.

Either way it doesnt look so promising for Gorky, unless the mgm decides to make drastic changes.

AAAAAAAAH, someone understood my thought !!
So like I said, I don't want or expect Pirlo to be a sub, I was just giving my thought about a formation with Gourcuff in, and if Gourcuff is in with Kaka' and Ronaldinho, there is no place for Pirlo nor Seedorf as we would have problems when we don't have the ball (even if it would probably be amazing when we have it).

So the future of Gourcuff with us is linked to how Ancelotti will play in the next weeks (if he puts Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka' and Ronaldinho all together and if that works, so it'll be all good for Gourcuff, if that fails, one of these guys, Pirlo or Seedorf, will be on the bench, and so, Gourcuff will have no chance next year) which will probably determine how we will play next year ...

Interesting, the fact that I put a formation with Gourcuff and without Pirlo has changed the topic ... we try to know how important is Pirlo (more than very important for me, especially when he's in good form) and how good he is by comparing his statistics to other players ... I'll just say about all this that for me, Fabregas is not the same kind of player than Pirlo at all, Fabregas is a modern CM, he defends and attacks, what people expect from a CM nowadays, Gerrard, Essien or even Flamini in Arsenal (not with us for moment) are this kind of CM I think, whereas Pirlo is Pirlo, a former AM playing like a DM but being a playmaker, he's unique I think ...

LOL I started a world war here just by suggesting that there were people on Pirlo's level...oh my. Ace, Fabregas' stats over the last two seasons were actually better than Xavi's but that's where I'll leave this topic.

Back to Gourcuff there's simply no space for him here. When our "world class midfield" is playing well there's obviously no space. When they're playing badly...we'll wait 1 or 2 or plenty more games, like last season, until they start clicking (remember that Pirlo/Gattuso/Ambro loss of form..?) So when they're doing well he won't play...when they're doing badly he won't play. If Arsenal loses Fabregas I wouldn't mind seeing him go there or maybe a team like Roma (don't think Roma has any real playmaker ATM). I also heard Bayern showed some interest in him but I don't know Bayern's situation too well so I can't say whether that would be a good move or not.

I'd also think it'd be good for his future if he spent at least 1 more year in Ligue 1 with Bordeaux before making that jump to a bigger team. Although he's playing well, he could do well to learn to take a little more of the playmaking responsibility. He drops the ball a little too quickly sometimes...when he's supposed to be the main playmaker.

well, i guess this answers our question

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1708/ac-...irlo-may-start

if he starts and still not ready, that is because carlo just cant wait for him to play, na IMO that is very bad news for Gourcuff.

Maybe Mystik is right, just let the guy play there for another year, but without a buying clause.

I understanding you are not knocking Pirlo.

If Fabregas has Xavi and Iniesta in front of him then Pirlo had to force coaches to play him in his younger years when there was far stiffer competition from the likes of Baggio and Rui Costa. If Fabregas hasnt been able to cement himself into the Spanish side then thats not Pirlo's problem. If Fabregas wants to be compared to Pirlo then he needs to do what Pirlo has done for club and country.

Xavi may or may not have helped Barca win the La liga 3 times, but he was not a regular for Barca in the champions league win so cant take the kind of credit Pirlo can. Pirlo has literally been irreplaceable in our midfield.

Also, out of the 3 there is only one player who is World Champion.

It is also not fair at all comparing Fabregas in the last two season, when we all know Fabregas had an amazing season last year, far better than he is having this year and probably better than he will have for a long while.

Pirlo on the other hand has suffered from being burnt out by Milan and Italy and has been playing in a Milan side with zero energy (Last year anyway).

For an accurate comparison to be made, we need to look at what the players have achieved and how much their contributions played a part in those successes. We can not just look at the last two seasons or that would make Mladini no better than someone like Arbeloa.

Pirlo will no doubt need time to get back into the groove. But Im expecting a massive 2 seasons from him!
