a much need win...

however, i would of like to see the subs come on sooner. clearly at the 60 min mark we had this game wrapped up.

1- gorky should of come on sooner, especially after his previous performance. he had to be down on himself, and could of used more than a token 10 minutes at the end of the game. sometimes i think those token 10 minutes can even hurt your confidence.

2- why leave kaka and nesta on the field? nesta has had some injury issue's, why not replace him with simic? our players dont really need the rest at this point. Also, with the game in hand, why not pull kaka? why leave the clearly unreplaceable player on your team on the field?

so to summurize...around the 60min mark i would of liked to see...kaka, nesta, seedorf pulled out, and gorky, simic, and the puma in.

but a big sigh of relief....

I agree with Icculus: Gourcuff must be used more times, he's a gifted playmaker.

Haven't been keeping track of the team or the forum so much as I've been busy with school....

for the team to get the win when they needed it most.

Oh, and I just realized that I have the same Birthday as Dida

Already did it Dru! Did u notice?

Meanwhile, back to the post-game wrap:

I think that we played well today, but then again, Lazio gave us more space than a Catania, etc.....so, its difficult to judge whether or not we are actually "back" on form....or just benefitting from playing an opponent that didnt defend with 11 men.

Gila´s scoring though, having said all the above, is surely an example of a return to, or a closeness to "form"...and I look forward to more goals from him.

Until we have R99 back, we will continue to suffer, IMO against teams that prefer to attack on the counter....

But I, like most here, just want to sit back, and bask in the sight of Milan putting 5 past a team....ANY team...and to do so against Lazio, who are a good team, is very refreshing, and reassuring.

If confidence is what we lacked, this should do wonders for us...though the Lazio keeper, in all honesty, was pathetic...worse than Dida even

Suffice it to say, that this is the filup we needed, and who knows what will happen next game? All I kno is that I am going back to my obeah woman!!

A couple of things. Despite the reputation of scoring unimportant goals for us, he has actually scored a number of important goals. Both me and Tony29 have provided a list of important goals he's scored during the last 2 seasons (in his thread). Secondly, last night's performance was not a one-game wonder. Granted it was by far his best match this season (argubly since he joined), but he has actually done a decent job in the last few appearances he's made (starting roughly around the Catania game). Last night is clearly the result of his growing confidence and form, and also better teamwork (in the whole side). Right now he needs to be allowed to play with some consistency performing the same role.

I think I understand why Carlo didn't sub quickly. Though the game was dead at 60 minutes, it's good to let those playing continue as they're confidence was getting a major boost in that match, in addition to not taking unnecessary risks (though the chances were slim, an Istanbul style repeat is not out of the question especially considering our recent form). This is the same reason I'd say he left both Nesta (who's fitness isn't an issue right now) and Kaka on the field, you let their confidence grow and not take what seem to be needless risks.

i think this is how we all should expect him play every game. while he played very good, its troubling if that was is best match as a milan striker.

do you think kaka or nesta could ever have confidence issues?
but even if your right, i say gorky should of come on earlier...for seedorf or ambro or gattusso.

after the celtic game, where i dont think he played poorly, he had a couple moments that could leave him feeling less confident. i think going into the long break, feeling like a part of that win would of done him greatly. that said... i dont know where his head is at, i am not in the locker room, he might be an arrogant french sob.

i see him as a diamond in the rough...he has a lot of footskills however i think some are un-necessary like c. ronaldo...while kaka has become the master of un wasted movement.

I think it's a bit much to ask him to play like this every game. Bear in mind he was playing on par with Pirlo, Seedorf, Ambro and most notably Kaka. Though Gila is a very good player, it seems unrealistic he can maintain the same kind standard of play as Kaka, Pirlo or Seedorf. However, what we should expect from him is elements he had in that game (holding up the ball, smart positioning, laying off, finishing etc) and for him to do these things consistently. I also don't see why it's troubling if this was his best match for Milan, he was outstanding in the match.

In the case of Kaka and Nesta, though they can have confidence issues, it's less likely to be the case of late. However, they will most probably want to continue to play in that situation because they were working well with the rest of the side, and thus it's good for them to have continuity in the side rather than "break" up the side or it's flow.

Gourcuff is a massive talent, and as you say a diamond in the rough. He didn't do badly at all at Celtic, just unfortunately was heavily involved in their goals. He made mistakes, but at his age, it's expected. I don't think he would have felt much more involved in the Lazio victory even if he had been subbed on earlier, as the game was dead by then anyway (and he would have been aware of that).

I do think Gourcuff needs time, he's still very young (people are expecting a lot for a 21 yr old, few greats have achieved much at that age, like Zidane, Ronaldinho and Kaka who were still not considered world class at that point of their careers). However, I do agree he could use more playing time, but in this match I think Carlo's choices were fine for the reasons I said above. In the end, I'd put it as he had a choice:

1) Let the team play as they are and enjoy the game (doing wonders for their mental states)
2) Bring in squad players and let them try to also take advantage of the situation to help their own game

So in that respect I assume Carlo decided to go for option 1.
