I agree with Grenoli on this one. We need to start demonstrating some ambition here. Of course 30-40M is a lot of money. Of course, buying young players like Torres and Tevez is a risk. But we are a big club and we need to start taking some risks. If Torres becomes a big hit in Serie A, I dont think anybody would question a transfer fee of 30-40M. If he flops, then so be it---we sell him and take the loss. We are not Palermo or Fiorentina, we are AC Milan and we should be able to take calculated risks in the transfer market. And after all, we are a privately owned club. If Berlusconi can afford to splash out some cash, then why the hell not?

And dont forget who we are trying to replace. If we were replacing Inzaghi or Amoroso, and to some extend even Gila, I wouldnt mind "intelligent" purchases like Cassano, Saviola, Kuyt, etc...But we're replacing Shevchenko here!! For the morale of the club and especially the fans we should sign a "big" player, even if it will cost "big" money. ANd after all, we have money to spend. We had a budget to spend on support players even before the sale of SHeva. So why not spend the bulk of Sheva's transfer fee on a replacement? I dont think we'll be losing too much money at all. ANd besides, we really need some excitement to kick start next season, especially after losing Sheva. So I say let's sign them, whoever management thinks is best--Torres(would be my preference), Tevez, or Ibra.

They should be waiting as well to see how this Seria A scandal plays out. They might be able to pick someone like Trez or Zlatan. Theres plenty of time ahead.

Fantastic post, dude, let me emphatise some of your precious remarks:

Yes, you hit the bulls eye, that's the key concept: CALCULATED RISKS, as you can't do anything great without taking some measure of risk... calculated risks, for sure, for no one here is suggesting that we should $hevchenko with my grandma!

On the mark again: Sheva's replacement is not only a techical affair, but also a highly symbolical one. You cannot replace a superstar with a declining veteran, like RVN; or with a virtually unknown footballer (Suazo); or even proven but no stellar players (Cassano), but with a high talented world class player (like Henry) or with a hungry for glory and hugely talented youngster that can grow with us (Torres or Tevez)

Couldn't agree more: we must send shockwaves of fear thru the spine of our rivals, showing them that we really wanna to break real big once more and beat to the pulp all the competitors!

Trez? Come on, you must be joking... we need FRESH BLOOD, not recycled short term arrangements...

i am a bit late talking about a striker replacing SHEVA but i think and everyone thinks here in Kosova who like MILAN the perfect replacment about him would be FERNANDO TORRES and no - one else ...

PLEASE BERLUSCONI BUY HIM !
HE'S GOING ON STEPS OF A LEGEND !

This is an important point. We all have our dream signings at this point, but we must realise that there are currently other factors possibly preventing us signing anyone with a really high price tag.

Patience is a key factor to see how things work out.

this is crazy talk, what happens if we spend 40m and torres flops (which is a very likely option), doesnt his price drop tremendously??? we might not be able to sell him for 20m, thats a 20m loss, if you can put up those 20 from your own money to compensate ok great, but 20m isnt small talk, you can buy diarra for that price, you can buy gallas + oddo + suazo and still save some cash! ... and what happens when we suddenly need to reinforce another part of the squad?? you seriously expect berlusconi to splash out money that easily when we have ageing defenders seconds away from retiring?

and another thing, how do you define a smart buy? ... spending a couple of millions on a total flop isnt a good buy isnt it? (ex. vieri) ...spending 100m on a replacement that does okay ... is that a good buy?? sure he worked out fine, but the cost at which we got him, isnt it a bit too high? ... a good buy is when you get a good player that does well for a GOOD PRICE ... in economics its that point where the supply meets the demand... torres' price isnt GOOD given that you have MANY MANY MANY players that are as good or even better than him for a much cheaper price, and chances are that they would settle in here much more that he would given the history of spaniards here not only in italy but in milan in particular

the fact is - if we stay in serie A, we will buy someone. Only options are: Torres, Suazo, Cassano, Ibrahimovic. My vote goest to Torres.

I do agree that itīs not just to splash out money without thinking, but seeing other clubs doing it (man utd, real, Chelsea,) you are left with this feeling why cant we do it, if they can ( maybe I have to eat **** before the summer is over). A couple of times during the lastīs seasons we have been Link to different players and every time have we offered money that even I can see is to low plus players that we don't want, then how are we going to get stronger? I want to say that all I know about Milan transfer is the thing I read in newspapers or on the Internet so maybe Iīm getting worried over nothing .
And about this Spanish thing I think it was Maldini who said that the reason Spanish players havent suceed in Italy was because ther has not been the best plyers like Raul in his prime for a example.

But anyway forza Milan

Actually, I think it is excatly the example of manU, Chelski, Real that assures Galliani and Milan that spending BIG - as someone here would say - doesn't mean winning BIG. Those clubs are hardly an example for us to follow.

As I said I agree that spending doesn't always leads to result, but I do think Carlo should get a couple of giftīs next season, players that Carlo himself sees fits the team.

It's simply incredible to see that some people are thinking that Milan can replace Shevchenko with a virtually unknown player from Honduras... so I have to repeat again and again for those who still doesn't understand: we are AC MILAN, not Catanzaro, Catania or Ascoli!!!

Gre... I feel you would be a better fan or Arse... they buy only young players. We rely on mature players. Let me ask you - who has achieved more? So what do you fancy more - high results or stentorian defeats...

So Chelsea is not winning or being succesful? So their premier league titles on 2005 and 2006 (their firsts since 1955) didn't mean anything, and our board is doing absolutely fine with its politics of getting old farts on free transfers, yeah right...

Give us yer money and we'll buy you anyone you want.

We can not afford to spent so much on soap-bubble media stars as ski do. Unless you have anything better to offer...
