I hope for our sake he can. Otherwise I agree with Graeme, unless we do really really bad I think January is a good time to make a evaluation.

hany, nope I am not sure I would sack him for those three games. If we miss UCL play-off then I certainly would though.

Lippi is still avaiable.

I am in the opinion of signing Lippi in the summer no matter were our results this season, changing the coach and the tactics is surely needed now and of course signing new players is also important may be this will end the crisis.

Consideing our situation winning with boring football is much better than losing also with boring football.

When you have the resources that Milan has should we expect any less?

How is Ancelotti at fault? He can only do so much with what he has been given. Bayern's fortunes turned around not after Hitzfeld replaced Magath, but after they decided to spend some money and bought Ribery, Toni, and Klose. It's the same with Milan. If you look at all the "big" teams, every manager has had a chance to improve his squad during each transfer window----Sir Alex got Nani, Anderson very early on, Chelsea got Malouda, Barca picked up some world class players---Henry, Toure, Milito, Madrid as usual overhauled their squad with overpriced "stars".

Compare that to us, has our squad really been "improved" over the transfer window? If anything, our striker department looks thinner. Carlo has been given next to nothing "new" to work with over the past 2 transfer windows and he's still managed to win us a European Cup. I think his position should be secure regardless. If managment is so loyal to players like Serginho, Cafu, Dida, Inzaghi, then the least they can do is to let Carlo leave when he is ready.

Exactly as i have said in the past give options to to the best coach, Carlo Ancelotti .

For us to get rid of Ancelotti would be a step backwards imo.

When Milan lose/ play badly I dont think Carlo should be blamed, we should look at the team first.

It is UNTHINKABLE that Ancelotti be sacked

I mean look at the losses we have had and how Carlo has compensated:

1) Rui Costa has been directly replaced by Kaka. BUT instead of an old wise Rui to now replace a tird Kaka in say the last 10 min or so....we have NO ONE!! Gorcuff doesn't inspire much confidence and seems by present showings not up to the task of a big team's #10. (gain)

2) We have lost Crespo who again was directly replaced by Gila (no comment )
(loss with less capable replacement)

3) We had a very good backup striker in JDT I can't even call Aubemyang because he isn't yet ready for the senior game yet (loss)

4) We lost the most complete striker in the world in Sheva and though I believe that player for player Ronaldo is VASTLY superior, Sheva wasn't as injury prone, was better in the air, a slightly more passionate free-kick taker and had a better work ethic. Until Ronaldo can play a whole season and score 20+ goals we have suffered another (loss with less capable replacement)

5) We lost Serginho as a left wing forward. Now Kaka is forced to play almost ALL offensive positions (loss)

6) We lost Stam- even though we got Bonera - who promises to ensure similar stability he isn't nearly as versatile because of his physical makeup and lack of speed that the big guy had. Stam was decent at RB Bonera SUCKS at it. Actually Carlo stopped playing him in that position unless it's a real emergency. (loss with less capable replacement)

7) I suspect we have lost Serginho as a LB as well. He was fantastic but he IS 36 now Janku- bless his heart isn't what we thought he would have been. He is usually solid but doesn't have the pace skill or presence to be a big team LB (loss with less capable replacement)

We have lost Cafu to age. Oddo is pretty good and i guess he is still settling here so I won't count this one. Dida also seems to have lost some of his form/ alertness which has seriously affected us.

The above has forced Carlo to juggle around the players that are left in the squad:

Kaka plays in ANY attacking position (ST, CF, L/RWF, CAM)
Seedorf plays ANYwhere in midfield (L/RM L/RWM, CAM)

Hence if in the very likely event that either one of those guys can't come up with something - bar the brilliance of Ronaldo, we're pretty much screwed. I think what I have said is pretty obvious and everyone knows this song....but my real point is that despite the above Carlo won the CL with us.

At a glance his record is :
2003 CL
2004 Scudetto
2005 Liverpool
2006 Scudetto

If you asked me he did pretty well. SAF had a squad overhaul and it took him TWO years to win a major trophy

Respect to Dru Too bad we lost both Rui and Stam to homesickness, otherwise they'd probably still be here.

Nice post drucul.

I keep changing my mind on Carlo. But (today at least!) I feel that our problem lies in the players we have. (Deep breath). I think we have lost tactical flexibility in our players (which you have alluded to). How many wide players do we have? How many players really capable of pushing wide and spreading play? It seems this year that teams have figured out how to play us - pack the middle of the pitch. We don't seem to be able to break through. We have no players capable of getting out onto the touchline and beating their man before delivering a killer cross. Seedorf always drifts inside. Kaka? Playing him as a winger? Might as well play him in goal. (I don't mean that in offence to him; quite the opposite. You take him away from his strongest position). I mean for crying out loud against Roma we had Ambrosini trying to get into the wide positions. Ambrosini. Our defensive midfielder. Bloody. Hell.

We're playing a very staid 4-3-3 at the moment. With no width. There's no-one on the bench who can give us width (apart from Serginho. Who's just too damn old for 90 minutes).

But who's fault is this? Carlo's? Does Carlo really have the controlling say in which players we get? I don't think so. I don't think anyone really does. At the end of the day, the players we sign are the players that Berlusconi and Co. want. It's with them the blame for our current predicament lies.

I may think different tomorrow though (!)

Mehdi is an unknown quantity at this point
Last week Galliani said we need a striker 'like Bierhoff'. Days later Ancelotti disagreed and argued we don't need reinforcements in attack. This, and his poor use of subs over the years, suggests to me Ancelotti is just as much to blame if not most guilty for the make-up of the current squad.
