He's one of my favourite players of all time. watching him play is simply a pleasure, every pass, touch, dribbling, pass, cross or shoot is a delight. Next jersey i will buy is his. Pirlo's class astonished Rivaldo, when he arrived at Milan. Cruyff said Pirlo is a player that does whatever he wants with his feet. Now, after the Wc, he's immortal, and people in 70/80 years time will watch Buffon's saves or Pirlo's pass to Grosso and will still remember how classy were them
This year he has underperformed, but he did just 1 week of holidays after the WC, and usually seasons after Wcups are always difficult in normal conditions, let alone with such a short break..

Giovanni, we all feel the same thing towards Pirlo. But there's one thing you've forgotten, he hasnt only underperformed this season, but all of last season as well.

I still think he needs longer hair as he performs better with the longer hair then the shorter hair.

Pirlo's form lately has been outstanding, and he really looks back to his best at a crucial time.
For me, this man is already a legend at Milan along with the greats, such as Donadoni, Albertini, Maldini, Baresi, Tassotti, Rivera, the dutch trio etc. It may not be known to too many, but he was probably one of the main catalysts for Milan's success and dominance in football over the past 5 or so years. Back in 2001/02, he was at the tender age of 22/23, and was often on the bench during a season where Milan were struggling for consistency and stars like Sheva, Rui Costa, Inzaghi and even Maldini weren't able to find the impetus to drive the side forward. This was also the season Carlo Ancelotti came in and under him Pirlo was given more chances. The risk Carlo took soon paid off, as Pirlo had the creativity and ability to really control of matches and bring home results. This in effect became a sprigboard for us to reach the Champions League qualifying positions and look towards greatness again. "The next Baggio" was now beginning to show why he was rated so highly, though it wasn't in this role he made his name. The season after, 2002/03 Carlo was forced to play Pirlo (considered indispensable) in a deeper role, as Rivaldo was brought in. Considered again a huge risk, Carlo's decision again paid off massively, as Pirlo was a massive creative force from deep, controlling games and providing a breath of fresh air in Italian football. The "new" Milan that year was considered a surprise in world football, as the traditional Italian game changed into a more attacking and dominating game, with Milan being at the forefront of the wave. That was the season Pirlo really had an impact on the International scene, where his deep playmaking skills were new and extremely difficult to stop. His ability didn't only range from passing and freekicks, but also his ability to lead the side and control games. His reading of the game is outstanding to say the least, and technically he is definately one of the most gifted footballers in history. Gattuso, with whom he has formed one of the best midfield partnerships in the game, has said that when he see's Pirlo with a football, he wonders whether he himself can be called a footballer. Over the years, Pirlo has continued to be a huge figurehead in Milan, becoming one of the senior players. In Italy, he has become of of the most important players in the national team, as shown during the last world cup. Never have I seen a manager talk badly of Pirlo, and is now recognised as one of the very best players in world football. It's argued he hasn't always been at his best, which may be true, but when he is absent, it is very noticeable, argubly moreso than any other Milan player. The difficulty in finding a suitable backup for him shows how unique his talent is, and in my mind there's little argument that he is the greatest player in his position of all time. The quiet leader of Milan still has a few good years left in him, but when he does end his career, his contribution shouldn't be forgotten. As for being the "next Baggio", I think Pirlo has reached a point where in the future, we'll see youngsters being called "the next Pirlo". |

Midfielder wise top 3 in the world, no doubt. His vision and his ability to deliver and turn defense into offense is the greatest asset one would ever see but often overlooked.
