The only good thing in this that Inter wont win scudetto again.

And now seriously, this is really bad, when a manīs life is in danger what is the point of playing football, who needs it than. Really bad, this isnīt football.

Football is game that should bring joy to mens life, something dignified. And really, the only thing that left is to suspend the league.

another way could be to give the teams heavy point reductions as a example. but i agree something has to be done, suspending the leagues could be a way...

this reminds me of 12 years ago, when a Milan supporter stabbed a Genoa supporter to death. I was watching the game live on TV, and had no idea whatever happened. When the second half started, it was switched to Inter vs. Torino(?), and nobody (including the commentators) knew what was exactly going on. They said they were told that something serious just happened, that was all.

I think this time it was even worse than last time. I hope that FIGC will do something, something serious.

p.s. have they identified the murderer?

EC 2012 goes to Croatia now! wooho!

Now, joke aside..... This is completly barbairc. And football is only a GAME after all where players play and public is supposed to enjoy it. This is shamefull and no scudetto is worth more than one persons life! Close it all if it needs to be done!

Well i agree this is an horrible, barbaric act, but i doubt that Serie A will be suspended for a year, suspension will probably doo immense damage to Serie A .

Reading channel4.com it seems the right laws are already in place; the "the anti-violence laws" require tv-cameras at the stadiums, named tickets and rebuilding to separate the ultras from each other and others spectators. The problem is that this has not been implemented in most stadiums (anybody knows if San Siro is up-to-date?). Instead of stopping calcio for a year (like the players association suggests!), lets use some of the player’s insane salaries to improve stadiums and identify all spectators. It will then be easy to ban fans that misbehave from all stadiums in 2-3 seasons.

We should establish some kind of standard. That's for sure. However how far do we go with this? Do we punish only two clubs involved? Do we punish the whole league? Mind you.... that hooliganism is not just a Serie A problem, so do we suspend all football in all leagues on the account of the stupid some from two particular clubs? We here are all being righteous at this moment, yet are we really only looking at this very selectively and in doing so does it really teach anyone out there a lesson?

Where are we going with this moral selectiveness? Is this phenoma born out the of the football culture or is the problem a bit more closer to home? If it is born out of the football culture, than why not suspend ALL football? Can anyone tell me what action was taken in the numerous violent incidences after Heysel til now? More so ... if actions were even taken with the hands of justice, were these actions succesful? If succesful, why then did this incident happen in Italy? Is any kind of action going to curb the rampant problems seen elsewhere around the world regarding football hooliganism?

Keep in mind that I'm being a bit cynical of these very points/questions I'm pondering on. Seems many solutions being brought forward like "closing the league" down is all folly. Do I shut all banking down on the account of several violent cases of bank robbery? Do I shut an entire banking chain down? OR Do I shut the one bank directly involved in the robbery? By doing so, does it curb the problem of bank robberies? Does it not hurt the many who are decent people from access to a football game or depositing a check on the account of the few scourges out there? Point is no matter what law or action you put in place, those rotten apples out there are not going to get any fresher than what they already are. ROTTEN APPLES. Again the football culture isnt what causes these scourges to be rotten apples. Something more deeper from the home or societal outside the game itself make these fools who they are. Rather than shutting the beautiful game, why dont we shut these idiots down? Why should we be so foolish as to punish ourselves from the beautiful game? Does this mean we ought to lump ourselves with these violent lots? I dont have the answer to this dilema we face. What I ask is if any solution will work without causing the many good supporters to suffer?

To add on to this. I recall some time during the last couple of seasons, some members were trying to endow me with foolishness veiled under the aura of wisdom, about the word "FAN". That I'm supposed to accept the behavior because "that's what fans are all about". That I should accept these fan behaviors because the word "Fan" is short for "fanatics". The unthinking, irrational, inconsiderates who engage in nonsense, unthoughtfulness, spiteful behavior. After this incident... do any of you who explained this rationalization to me still true to that? Oh please do impress upon me more about this.

OH I'M NOT DONE!!!! For those "FANS" the inconsiderate, unthinking, irrational, unthoughtful, spiteful LOUTS who claim to support this team. Those who made the idiotic comments wishing the league be closed so INTER doesnt win the chapionship Let me be merciful and offer you 2(TWO) options... 1. Apologize for the stupid comment or 2. Leave this forum for "FANS" like you dont deserve a place here with such stupid ideas in light of this tragic incident. What kind of IDIOTIC thing to say and to make it the prime motivation to even suspend the league... so that INTER doesnt win????!!! I'm boiling at this one! Any dissenters to my thoughts on this? TRY ME!

I dont know if you guys were trying to be a bit sarcastic, but the timing is in really bad taste! Make this right by a kind gesture of an apology. You owe the MilanMania forum and the incident at the least this.

I agree with you Kui that much of this violence are due to a few rotten apples, and that these rotten apples, as is also true from which this analogy is taken, spread to others. I also agree that football is probably not responsible for making them rotten, but football do act as an arena for them to act out their violence. So, we need to remove them. Then we need means to identify them, collect evidence against them and keep them out of the stadiums; cameras at the stadiums and named tickets seem to be the way to make this happen.

All English teams were banned for 5 years after Heysel and it did the trick. The national bans are being suggested because because it is the national governments and national football federations that are responsible for making and enforcing the laws. For example, in England just banning Liverpool for Heysel would not have been enough to force all the other clubs to improve their standards. After Hillsborough it was made law in England that every Premiership club MUST have an all seater stadium. Think of the cost involved in upgrading these stadia, merely suggesting they should do it wouldnt have persuaded chairmen to spend millions.

The government was under pressure to get English teams back into Europe because football fans form a powerful voting block when combined on an issue. In italy, the government has already put laws in place, many based on the English improvements, but neither they nor the federation have enforced them properly and this is the result. If the whole of Italian football is punished then the government will simply have to enforce their laws.

Disgusting.

From footage yesterday it looked as if Italy was some dystopia in a distant land.

Honestly, it is embarrassing. I would much rather have the prawn sandwich brigade at games than these 'fans'.

Who needs these monsters?

My condolences to the family.

If you thought what you said after that stupid comment of yours was a disclaimer, the ONLY disclaimer comes with an apology. Not an excuse like you're doing now buddy. Nothing wrong with me, I didnt say what you did! Train more on that back pedal you're doing right now by saying "not my problem", your sarcasm WAS in poor taste. Gave you the chance to explain yourself and seems you really arent sorry for one d@mn thing you said SARCASTIC or not!

Let me be "sarcastic" here:

Tooo bad more people didnt get trampled at Heysel Stadium in 1985. That would have suspended the game and Juve would be one less European title under their belt.

and on with the weak disclaimer....

And now seriously, this is really bad, when a manīs life is in danger what is the point of playing football, who needs it than. Really bad, this isnīt football.

I stand behind everything I said... If anyone cant handle it, that NOT MY PROBLEM!

I like the standard you've established here Warpie! Good one!
