I was comparing Janku with Abate, NOT with Antonini and Zambrotta, and the reason is because Zambrotta is injured right now.

I agree that Zambrotta and Antonini are better in defense. But going forward, Jankulovski is better than both, when in form! I really don't know where all that bashing of Jankulovski came from, but for the most part of last season (when he was 100%) he was AWESOME going forward. Hell, in some matches he was our best player on the pitch, he was like winger sometimes, putting in cross after cross. His understanding is not good part of his game, but his attacking intelligence, i.e. getting himself into good attacking position, and passing (especially crossing) and shooting abilities are unrivaled of all our full-backs! His problems are that he's not left back, but left midfielder or left wing-back so he's not good enough in defense (which makes me think that Antonini and Oddo are better SB solution!) and that he's not getting any younger and better.

And to finish (no need for irony either!), who was our LB in most friendly matches last summer? Please tell me.
please remind me, did Jankulovski play against Inter (0-4) and Juve (2-4 last season)?? He was catastrophic in those matches, and now prior to match against Genoa he hasn't played for 3 months and you expect Leo to put him in first team as LB in match important as this one...

The only position in this Leo's system Jankulovski might play is left winger (Ronnie's position), and I don't see it happening soon...

I would play the same formation as against Genoa, as Pato and Seedorf are not fit. If Zambrotta recovers he might get his chance instead of Abate:

------------------Dida---------------------
---Abate(Zambro)--Silva--Nesta--Antonini--
----------Gattuso(Flamini)---Ambrosini-----
------------------Pirlo--------------------
----Beckham----------------Ronaldinho----
-----------------Borriello------------------

I believe this is our great opportunity to finally beat Juve and move to +4 with game in hand

curki, that seems to be 99.99% what our team will look like, as long as Pato, Seedorf and Zambro remain injured.

Flamini in late if we're winning, Huntelaar and Pippo if we're losing.

Flamini should start instead of Gattuso. It's so obvious that Rino is not up to it right now. It's a little sad for Flamini that Runo comes back after a lenthy spell on the sidelines and starts in front of Flamini.......while it is really obvious that Flamini is in much better shape and also a lot more match fit that Gattuso.

I don't know, Rino usually does a good job at man marking a skillful trequartista, and he might be given the job to shadow Diego (since Beckham will track back and fill in the gaps behind Abate). Maybe Flamini can do that too, but somehow, I trust Rino more...

I'm getting a good feeling about this game. I'd still rather have Zambro and Seedorf back (maybe Pato on the bench) but we're still good enough to win.

Edit: Yes, I do feel we have more balance with Beckham in the team than with Pato. I'd rather have Pato on the left in place of Ronnie. But that's never gonna happen.

Revolver, I don't know what is "patronizing a post", but I was just giving my opinion about Jankulovski. For me, using this player so long as a LB is a huge mistake. It was working when he was with Maldini and Nesta both in good form, but once Nesta wasn't there anymore and Maldini being older, the limits of Jankulovski were more and more obvious (last year was just terrible for this player).

Last year, he was bad in defence, but didn't do anything when going forward (his crosses didn't find any player from our team most of the time, for a proof, look at his number of decisive passes ?).

This season, during the few games he played, all he showed was his limits in defence again and his misunderstanding with Ronaldinho (look at how many balls lost on the left when they played together, and now look at the number of passes without losing the ball between Ronaldinho and Antonini, actually, Antonini isn't that good, he's a decent 27 or 28 yo player, but like R80 and him play very well together, that allows both players to play better and Antonini looks like an excellent LB ... put another player in front of him, and I'm pretty sure he will go less often forward).

So a bit like Curki said, I would use Jankulovski as a rotation player for Ronaldinho when he needs rest, because, as you mentionned it Revolver, initially, Jankulovski isn't a LB but a left midfielder (or even winger).

This way, that would mean that we have 2 super-attacking players for our wings (R80 and Pato), and two players able to play in their position but with a less attacking role (Jankulovski on the left and Beckham on the right).

Firstly, I think it would be stupid to play Janko in the first team this match....

And yes, Flamini should start in fornt of Rino. I just have bad dreams of Rino doing something reckless.

i agree completely
Jankulovski should be our last choice left back because his defending is awful

while Flamini should start ahead of Gattuso because he is simply a better player however, i'm not sure if he is any less reckless than Gattuso.

I don't know how anyone can say Jankulovski's defending is awful and after that say Abate is good enough. Abate is JOKE in defense, even Beckham is better than him. We all saw the first Genoa goal, when he need to position himself, he's like headless chicken. And I don't even want to talk about his tackling, we all saw it against Napoli. Jankulovski, though bad in defense, he can make a good timed tackle sometimes and can position himself at least in easy situations.

I'm really afraid of Abate playing because Juve have two VERY dangerous players on the wings (Marchisio and Salihamidzic) when late runs in the box and getting at the end of a cross is in question. I'm sure they'll exploit ANY positioning mistake by Abate. I thought Abate can be good SB, but I've changed my opinion, he really doesn't have any talent in positional sense to be good side back, though he have great attacking potential.

could be true but Janks is also not good enough... his defending is awfulll!!! At least Abate has the advantage of improvement becouse he's still young and hasnt played at RB for too long... while jankulovski is on his way back.

This is the reason why I think we should REALLY be looking for a new RB. a fullback is much more important than dzeko for us...

again i totally agree with filipez,

Abate's defensive skills are questionable and he has shown that he can make a mistake anytime during a match and i have always thought he should be given the chance to evolve as a right winger rather than full back, however, compared to Jankulovski, his young age means that with experience and match practice he can get better while Janku certainly cannot, plus he is faster and while you might argue that Janku is so good offensively, i do consider Abate's runs and crosses as one of our strengths.

and all else aside, we cannot criticize management and the coaches for not giving the chance to the young players while we do not have the patience to see them improve and become Milan material.

JUVENTUS-MILAN: 19 CONVOCATI DA FERRARA
09/01/2010 13.49.00
Chiellini, Felipe Melo, Cannavaro, Grosso, Salihamidzic, Marchisio, Del Piero, Amauri, Chimenti, Manninger, Zebina, Poulsen, Grygera, Diego, De Ceglie, Tiago, Legrottaglie, Rossi, Immobile. (juventus.com)
I don't know which team is in worse shape for this match. Juventus are missing plenty important players and so are we. I hate when this happens for matches like these because it takes something away from the game IMO.

I agree, but I won't mind mind anything being taken away as long as we take away three points. If only we could have an in-form Pato for service, I really think we could tear this Juventus side apart into pieces. I still can't forget the 1-6 defeat 13 years ago. I still want revenge.

wow... 65th minute and Siena just scored... Inter 2-3 Siena !!!

The only reason Siena are in front is cause they are attacking and not sitting back like the rest of the teams. I hope now that they continue attacking and not sit back after they just scored. And it looks like they are attacking cause I see 5 Siena players in Inter's half to Inter's 4!

We can only hope! Alle Siena!
