I think i have the answer Argo. As you know Libra is a sign of the Zodiac and it's also the Latin word for scales. The Ancient romans used the word "Libra" as a form of weight too.

They said 12 unciae = 1 libra ... so i guess the abbreviation lb comes from the Latin word Libra.

I might be completely wrong, but that's what i think it is. Let me know if you find it to be something else
