just read on milannews Galliani says the Cissokho deal has collapsed. We apparently won't go for another fullback. We won't go for Rossi as we have Pato and Dinho and Pirlo is 99.9% likely to stay.

This is what Galliani said according to goal.com

"It's finished. We have not found an agreement with Porto on terms regarding a loan deal as well as the player's price given the problems which have emerged," Galliani told reporters outside the Lega Calcio offices in Milan as reported by Calciomercato.com.

"There will not be any further discussions and we will not find another alternative. We have many wing-backs and we will stay as we are."

Despite the deal for Cissokho being scuppered, Galliani admits Milan will continue to survey the market for a decent striker, with Dzeko being the hitman of choice.

"Our aims are focussed on a good striker now. Dzeko is a great player and we will hope to do it [sign him], if not we will move on someone else.

"We have a great squad of players already, all we need is a top-class striker.

"As for [Andrea] Pirlo, we have not received any offers for him and he will stay 99.9 percent."
-------------------
I hope it's just him talking **** again, because if this is really our strategy, we're pretty much screwed. These were my favourite quotes:

"We have many wing-backs" and...
"We have a great squad of players already, all we need is a top-class striker"

We have Zambrotta who's still good enough (but a far cry from the player he once was), but whoelse? Jankulovski the midfielder? or Antonini the backup?

And we don't anything but a striker? I'm speechless...again I hope (and, to a degree, believe) that Galliani is just doing what loves most...blowing hot air.

Rest be assured that Galliani will also be getting another CB for next season. Before the Cissoko drama, i thought that Milan didn't really need to reinforce out wide of defense, not as much atleast than other areas. If i had to rate the priorties for our current transfer market it would be in order: 1. Get new CB 2. Get new CF or powerful targetman 3. Get new back-up keeper 4. Buy young players

I guess Cissoko falls under category 4, but that is just my opinion. I sincerely hope that Galliani is just bluffing here to scare the hell out of Porto and improve transfer conditions.

So who do you propose plays in the fullback positions next season?

Perhaps the one described in the following article may appeal?

Following the heart-breaking news of Cissoko, this might cheer you up. But it is just rumours after all....

Report: Milan & Napoli Meet Siena Over Defender Juan Camilo Zuniga
The Rossoneri and the Azzurri have made an initial approach with the Tuscans, but the player’s representative says there are no formal offers on the table.
19 Jun 2009 10:59:57

According to reports in the Corriere dello Sport, Milan executive Ariedo Braida and Napoli director general Pierpaolo Marino met with Siena director of sport Manuel Gerolin at the Calciomercato headquarters in Milan yesterday to enquire after the availability of full-back Juan Camilo Zuniga.

The 23-year-old has impressed in his maiden season in Serie A after arriving from Nacional Medellin last summer and has drawn attention from a host of top sides.

Napoli are believed to be leading the race for his services, because of a privileged relationship with the Robur, with whom the Partenopei will also have to resolve the co-ownership deal of striker Emanuele Calaio by the end of this month.

“Yes, the player is held in high esteem by the Partenopei officials, but there are no formal offers from them at the moment,” Zuniga’s agent Riccardo Calleri told TuttoNapoli.net.

“We are ready to evaluate requests for the player. But I have been contacted by many clubs, particularly from Italy. We’ll know more about it next week.”

There are so many, but I would personally go for an established defender in his prime (26-28), who has vast experience in europe (preferably Serie A), over a young inexperienced full-back. It is far too risky, considering Nesta is out, that Thiago Silva (has not yet played in Serie A or Europe besides friendlies), would pair with another inexperienced defender to form the core of our backline.
Players such as Vidic remain a dream, and would fit almost perfectly with the bill. However Mexes is a serious option. Although i haven't been his biggest fan, the defender is a solidly built wall of a man, who is at a great age in which he has experienced alot, yet still has time to improve. Roma need to sell, and no CL qualification could unsettle high-acheivers like Mexes.
Then again, less so fitting to this bill would be Carvahlo and Alex, but the possibilities of either of those two arriving is slim.

Would you prefer a young defender? Who are you considering for this vacated role?

Zuniga's a potential alternative assuming the Cissokho deal has actually fallen through. However, in your first post you said you don't think new wide defenders are of great necessity. I'm just wondering if we don't get anyone, who do you see taking up the wide roles?

Only Dzeko

Up on Football Italia on Channel 4 Galliani says we only want Dzeko our transfer strategy will only concentrate on a striker.
If this means that we will only sign one player I will be devastated as we are not a competitive team havn't been for a long time we were not the best in 2007 when we won the CL , Kaka was outstanding and a great game against United but Id really have no confidence if this team layed against Man Utd now we would not compete against them.

It really hurts seing us so old and slow and void of ideas just becoming a normal run of the mill side.

I dont believe him, when he says its only dzeko..last year he said that after every player we got..after flamini, then zambrotta, then dinho,sheva,senderos..he literally said it after everyone..

i m just worried because after this weekend the date will be 22 of june and we wont have anyone new..so it will be impossible to have the squad ready on 1st of july, and thats really important especcially now that we have a new coach..

Why don't we go for Zapata? Or are we? Who knows.

Galliani ruled out Rossi today because his characteristics do not suit us.

Well there goes my dream of the below back four and Santacroce/Zapata as back-up CB.

Bosingwa -- Nesta -- Silva -- Cissokho

(Bosingwa in a swap deal for Pirlo)

I really hate the line "We have a great squad we'll stay as we are". If our squad's so great why are we looking at a new left-back? Nesta, Silva & Zambrotta aside, the rest of our defence are mediocre at best.

Yeah the time is ticking and we have no1 im honestly not holding out much hope, at this stage the team I follow (and love) in my lifetime has won 7 scudetto , 5 European cups/Champions Leagues, 1 coppa , 5 euro super cups, and 3 world titles and my national team has won the world cup Ive had a blast .

But that said im not ready for a life of mediocrity get the finger out Galliani and sign some good players for Leos plans .
