I don't follow genoa side's game,Media here in china talks he is a new pirlo which is hard to believe.Does anyone have an idea how his game is?

It seems we're loosing Ronaldinho. It's clear we can't afford to pay two contracts with 8 M a year, so Ronaldinho will have to take a cut, probably to 6 M, or he'll leave. It's now clear why we bought Robinho.

I REALLY hope that won't happen because we will end up as Brazilian NT without major passer of the ball and we all know how they ended up in WC...

Well Poli is regarded as "new Pirlo" in Italy. And he's apparently connected with us.

Many said he is a defensive midfielder, not a creative one like Pirlo. I haven't watched him play so I only read comments about him.

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri should drop Andrea Pirlo, according to his former mentor at Pescara Giovanni Galeone.

Allegri has a selection headache after the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, although some would call it an embarrassment of riches up front.

It’s widely believed that Allegri will be obliged to play his new arrivals together with Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho in the same starting XI.

That would obviously render Milan very offensive, so in order to make the team more balanced, Galeone believes Pirlo has to be the fall guy.

However, the attack-minded tactician also believes Pirlo’s absence could present Allegri with another opportunity.

Speaking to Tuttosport, he said: “Taking out Pirlo from midfield would mean you’d be able to add a mastiff in front of the defence, or even better a trequartista in attack.

“You don’t need a deep-lying playmaker with those four. Pato should play behind Ibra. This team can win everything,” he concluded.

Actually, if we don't have Pirlo, that's how we would play. But Pirlo is very special and we must build a team around him. Ronaldinho is too good not to leave out, so we have to play him too, and we can't play him anywhere but LW. That basically restricts us to one or two formations, and the only thing Allegri can do is figure out a way to play faster and more compactly within those constraints.


Ronaldinho really was put in a corner with the Robinho purchase. Kind of a Checkmate by Galliani. He doesn't hold all the cards, like he did early in the summer. Play well, get a good contract (not a great one) and win everything with us. Slack off, leave for the US and we have Robinho to replace you. Basically we took the gun Ronaldinho was pointing at our head and shoved it up his ass.

Anyway, in Italy, there is no player who is like Pirlo nowadays. And you don't find that kind of player each time in the same country. They are few in Europe to have a good level/great level ...

Xavi is the guy who is the most like Pirlo, even if he plays a bit more in midfield and goes forward more often. In Auxerre, you have Pedretti who is the French version of Pirlo (you'll see when we'll play Auxerre). And then, I don't know any other player for this role.

Anyway, I'm not sure trying to replace Pirlo is the solution for the future. We should maybe try to change the way we play. Milan was Milan before Pirlo, I don't understand why we should now get a new Pirlo to still be Milan when he'll leave/retire ?

If we're lucky this is the exact reason needed by Dinho to motivate himself this season.

Well, he's not, so don't sweat it. At best he's a mediocre coach with several experiences at some yo-yo teams.

I think with Robinho and Ibra's arrival we faced the similar problem Barca did when they had the also called Fantastic Four: Messi, Eto'o, Dinho, and Henry who joined the latest. Even then they rarely played together.

Dinho began to struggle at that time, although he did chip in some goals/assists. Henry himself didn't impress either (he finally did in his second season though). My point is while it will unbalance the team by playing all the four at the same time, it's a good thing having players of their calibre since there are so many games in a season, and everyone will get their chance.

It will be hard for Allegri to resist the the 2 "DM" formation. Unless Pirlo does the (World Cup) Schweinsteiger type role don't be surprised if he gets less games.

I thought the same as you.

Our F4 are all in top or ready to be in top while Barca's F4 all had own problems: Messi was still young and injury-proned, Henry was decreasing and spent a season with injuries in Arsenal, Dinho came back from WC and must take all the burdens & blames because Eto has been only a fast & strong CF.

i agree on everything except your first sentence,if pirlo is out we have to play 3 of seedorf fla ambro rino or even the younger ones..of course i am talking about serious matches..not against teams that cannot pass 3 times in a row..

we would be totally outrunned,we would have 20 meters space between the lines we wouldnt be able cover markings etc..

and also neither binho nor dinho should play as a 10 imo,they are clearly players who need space and 1 on 1 marking so as to perform as they can..opponents wil play 10 players behind the ball most of times so as to not let anyone unmarked,and fast sc on the counter..also if we play with ibra-pato in front and the others on the wing we would nt be able to play possesion game as we would clearly need a more playmaker type of dmc.

and once nesta is out we re doomed with a 4-2-4(!!)..it would be easier though if we had both essien-mascherano()..

the thing is we're too slow on the medfield to try such a system..
