Celtic FC - AC Milan

Just like to say i thought your teams performance last night was a joy to watch. I watched the game on telly with my football fanatic son (aged 9) who is a defender for a local boys club. I told him that, this is the way that football should be played (with the exception of the dive to win a penalty). Your team make things appear simple by passing and moving.

I still hope we can overcome Milan in a fortnight, hey no laughing anything can happen in football, the best team does not always win, Milan 3 liverpool 4 being a perfect example.

I watched the game again and we were missing only 2 things to play super game.
1. A real striker like Eto'o, Henry, fit Ronaldo, Sheva... that can move and really combine with Kaka'.
2. A fast AM alongside Kaka', with Gourcuff moving back to Ambro position and by that gaining total control of the CM. I know Ambro did well in the air, but this is my wiew.
Gourcuff has a lot potential to play great at Seedorfs position, but lacks speed for an AM. Someone like Robben or Ronaldinho are needed in there.

I've read all the reports about what they dished out the penalties for in Milan and Juventus's count. Don't care about Lazio and Fiorentina,. I think they were thrown in to make it look like it wasn't just Milan & Juventus being branded, but if you think that Moggi acted fairly for all those years, with so many accusations from all parts of Italian football, then so be it. I am sick of the whole affair, and want to see inert back in their rightful positon.

Decent enough game without being too eventful - always good to see players like Maldini and Pirlo in the flesh again.

Thought Milan got their tactics spot on - doubled up on Nakamura and McGeady everytime leaving us with no creativity whatsoever which resulted in very few clear chances.

Milan obviously still the favourites going into the 2nd leg but with Naka's set-pieces we've always got a chance of an away goal aswell as hope in Boruc to pull off another wonder performance!

Looking forward to it already.

miller you can keep as he would hardly make it in Milan but I have to say that, with every game I watch him, I am developing a liking for Boruc, who I am starting to fancy as a very nice alternative to Dida.

i think it was a quality game from both sides:
main pts:
maldini - so important in clearing crosses...he must of had for header clearances in the 1st half alone.
janku - another poor performance...passes and crosses were not good
gourcroff - is just going to get better, he made some bad passes and tried some fancy stuff that didnt work, however, he still had a good game...with experience, he's going to be fantastic. needs to be in first 11
kaka-gatusso-pirlo-oddo-bonera - did what they were supposed to do.
kala - ? not match fit...dont know why he started over bonera ?
gila - embarrassing & shows ZER0 class...goes down easier than a 2 bit crack wh...re.

It's so obvious Milan got framed by Inter's controlled Telecom Italia if you did all what I described above that it's not even funny anymore.

Delbhoy, thanks for the kind words. In all honesty, that was the best performance we put in for a while, we've not been that good for most of this season.

I suggest your son watch Maldini as much as he can while the man still plays, especially if he's a defender.

As for those talking about suggestions of Milan cheating, or should I say last summer's scandal, either continue discussion about it in the relevant Calciopolli thread or end it, I don't want to take action here. Hail the hoops, I would please like to ask you to show a little sensitivity rather than coming to a Milan forum and labelling us cheats when clearly you have no idea what happened last summer.

if we play the way we played yesterday for the rest of the season, there is no reason to believe we can't reach far.. IN FACT, if we played like yesterday we will win the CL I guarantee you that.. i was sooo happy with our midfield they played soooo fast and so good.. and WOW PIRLO!!!!!!!!! this is the best performance ive seen from him IN A LONG TIME!!! FORZA PIRLO!! and what a game by Gourcuff!!!! We played really well guys..we just did not win because of unlucky incidents really..

now is the part im not happy about:
1- GATTUSO. He's been playing professional football for god knows how long, when is he going to learn how to shoot? he missed 3 chances. If any midfielder in the world was in those positions that he was they wudda at least scored one goal. Gattuso had all his shots wide. Just imagine if we had Diarra in his spot.

2- GILARDINO. He did play good for a month this season, but he has returned to his terrible form. He summed up his performance with one of the worst dives in history of football. That is a disgrace to AC Milan, I cannot believe we have players of this standard that we depend on so much.

3- Oddo wasn't so good in this game. You can tell that he is inexperienced because he didnt do much. Oliveira was also useless when he came on. Kaka's form is slowly improving, but the problem is, ITS really slow! We need him at his best soon, especially in the CL!


Anyway, keep the faith guys, I think we are on our way to conqueor #7

If we had Diarra in his spot:

1.- He might have complained about Ancelotti, and about his teammates.

Gattuso is the one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, especially when the bolded part of defensive midfielder is concerned. If he had just a litle bit of Vieira's elegancy and if he was partly as good as Inter's DMC is when going forward, he would have been the best DM in the world, by far.
Imo, Gattuso and Vieira are even better than Essien and Makelele and if i have to chose 2 DM's for my team of the world i'd chose the Italian based duo.
I don't want to sound like a racist ( since i'm white skined too, i guess noone will take my remark as a racist one ) but white people are very much inferior than black people in doing the DM job. It's the nature that allows Makelele, Essien etc to do the job much better than their white collegues.
But Gattuso is the one who's proving my theory wrong !
Diarra is not even close to Rino.

I think Makelele is very limited in his abilities, just like Gattuso and he doesn't have Rino's drive. However because he just stays in the center circle, he does his job very well.

Diarra for Lyon was immense, i don't think you can really say to much about his Real form as hardly anyone is performing there right now. We all saw the power this guy has at first hand when we played Lyon last year, anyone doubting his presence needs to watch that game. Again, i don't think he has Gattuso's energy, but he has more impact on the midfield i think.

Vieira is the perfect mix of both defensive and attacking abilities, he can do both very well. He has the height, the power and the energy, he doesn't excel in any area but is the right blend.

Essien is just raw power and energy, this guy is like a rocket with legs and i think he has more drive than Gattuso. He's also the youngest, so has time to improve and his performances in the Premiership this season have eclipsed anyone on this list so far, including Gattuso. Limited in his attacking skill but that doesn't stop him from getting forward with pace and determination, he can also score goals, not often, but is quite capable. Essien is the one i wish we had the most out of this list, he and Gattuso together would be absolutely frightening!

I want to take up Hitman's comment about Gattuso and poor training in general, it makes me wonder what exactly they do in training. Surely you should practice your weaknesses to make you a better player? Poor shooters should be made to practice shooting for a couple of hours every training session, poor crossers should be made to practice crossing for a couple of hours every training session and people who can only use one foot should be made to practice for a couple of hours each session with their other foot. So if they can't shoot, cross or use their weaker foot they'll be out there for 6 hours! But i suppose if they can't do any of that they shouldn't be playing football in the first place
