Maschereno is good, but Iv seen a younger kid called Gago a few times and he reminds me so much of Redondo. He is good at defending and has wonderful techinique. Hes pretty quick too, so I could really see him fitting into either side of Pirlo. Here is a clip I found.

Milan was linked to Gago from Boca Juniors, are talking about that player?

So Milan was linked to him last season. He is like 20 years old...

However, my fear, and I'm guessing most here is his injury problems, which has really been the real problem in his career, because otherwise I think we'd be talking about another world class defensive midfielder.
So dev, it means that we are going to play with the pattern like this one?

---------------Ambrosini
-------Pirlo----------------Seedorf

Hmm...Max should've a capability to dictate the rythm of the game which i still think he is lacking of it......
i don't know, maybe it's just a temporary solution....but to fight @ all fronts we need more than "maximizing" players that already at our disposal which a lot of them are useless imho...

tough to admit the truth though, about the state of our pack of midfielders. even Ancelotti and Galliani don't have guts to admit it....

As much as some of you think that Seedorf is useless and Diarra is NEEDED as his replacement in midfield, I beg to differ. Seedorf, given all his faults, is a crucial part of our midfield as he links up with both Pirlo and Kaka and provides us with much needed creativity. The only player I could think of who could replace him was Sneider, but there are doubts about his physical presence and capability to perform at the highest level.

If you think Diarra is needed, then we have to change the way we play. We may have to put two strong central midfielders and probably play with two wingers (with Kaka operating on the right). Otherwise, given our current formation, unless we sacrifice a striker, I cant see how Diarra would fit in unless he replaced Gattuso.

That's exactly what i mean rt9, as long as our chicken hearted coach don't have a bit guts to change system even that means to bench Rino Gattuso, Milan will go nowhere you can bet on it......

The arrival of Diarra,Mascherano type of player definitely put an end of Carlo's experiments on Pirlo as a regista, which mean he'll be pushed to Gattuso's position to give him freedom of dictating the play.

Hello, i don't think you are thinking the same way as most of us here are thinking. When people mentioned about buying Diarra, we are thinking of

Gattuso---Pirlo---Diarra.

Which is similar to how the Italian MF work in WC with the 2 strong midfielders defending and Pirlo given the freedom to move forward more. So NO, we are not dropping Gattuso, we are not changing Pirlo position on the field and Pirlo is not an experiment, he is already the BEST player in his current position.

PS: you must be insane to think of dropping Gattsso after the WC, i can safely say he is the BEST DMF in the world, he doesn't have amazing passes but he have the abilities to stop the best attackers in the game and also to push forward with Pirlo and do short and simple passes with pirlo and the right back.

Guess we have different opinion here hwmook about Rino. to say that he is simply the best DM around is pure nonsense by all means. He has nothing...i say nothing more than grit and maybe willingness to play by his heart. but that's not enough.
The role of Gattuso is pure defensive..his only capability, to cover Pirlo who is not fast and strong enough to be real regista a la Roy Keane (even so i also notice that his tacklings are mostly lead onto fouls).
Going forward?? he has nothing really, technically he is dull....gameplay?? no brainer.
Anyway, he played on the last WC as a starter, only because de Rossi red carded on the USA game, that's all. Did you think he is Lippi's first choice??

No, i have nothing against Gattuso, as i know that i will support him as a Milan player no matter how bad he is playing. But right now he is one of the weak spots that should be taken care of imo, besides that primadonna Clarence Seedorf offcourse.

And you say Pirlo is the best regista around?? you should open your eyes wider my friend....and hell, you don't have to. Just play the old record of Milan games and see how from time to time Pirlo's quality of playing as a regista is declining and Ancelotti seemed to know nothing what to do.

Pirlo has to change role....all the midfield play system has to change, Carlo NEEDS to be more creative on that term and give a chance for the team to rotate more. The prick simply doesn't have enough balls to rotate purely because he knew our team's depth are not good enough to do so, and he keep telling everybody and Galliani that the team is good already and we are ready to face the season for every year, and we all know that is all BS.......

Because of that we could know that the real problem for lack of achievements is our midfield is so much predictable. The depth of our squad is very much questionable as our real acquisitions until now is only the great Yohann Gourcuff, and he was suppose to be Rui's replacement?? please for god's sake

I have no objections about this system, but it has one defeciency. Unfortunately the new number 10 are Carlo's favourite. you can not just get him rid of....

Ario, I meant what HWMook said with the midfield still having Pirlo as the regista and Rino on the right.

---Rino-Pirlo-Ambro---

It'd be a system where Pirlo is is given more freedom to move, which was a problem last year, as he couldn't move as pleased and therefore had many problems trying to do his job. Carlo already said that this season he intends to sometimes use Ambro to protect Pirlo more (much like the Italy system).

The problem before was Rino wasn't necessarily there to protect Pirlo, as he would also have to protect the right flank whenever Cafu would go forward. Playing both Rino and Ambro means that one can protect their flank if a full back pushes forward and the other can protect Pirlo, allowing him the freedom to move around more and play on the ball. I don't think Pirlo has diminished in any way recent years, but opposing teams have often figured out ways around our system (putting pressure on Pirlo and trying to force Gattuso in to help him would leave wide areas exposed and if Rino stays wide, the centre is exposed).

This doesn't mean Seedorf is necessarily out of the picture altogether, as against some teams, having him may be beneficial, when we have to take the match to the opposing team, who often defend more.

Finally, I will admit to having one worry of Ambro and Rino playing together, that is in the past we have had some trouble holding and playing with the ball with them on the field together. I think this matter depends more on who else is playing, as in the past it would often be Pirlo, Kaka, Sheva and Gila/Pippo. Sheva stays forward quite a lot and his movement usually operates around the box or in wide areas, meaning only Pirlo and Kaka were usually regularly available to pass to, making it harder to move the ball around. Therefore, it will be key to have whoever plays in Sheva's role to be willing to drop a little deeper. This could be another midfielder (Gourcuff or Seedorf) or a supporting forward who is willing to get deeper (one reason I've wanted Tevez so much). With the extra man, the midfield will have much more support and won't need to rely on Ambro or Rino to try and play as more creative players.

ps - I personally think Rino is the best ballwinning midfielder in the world.

Mascherano -- Pirlo -- Gattuso

I'd prefer it if we went to a flat 3 in midfield rather than a 1-2-1 diamond. This way they can move up as a unit and the two aggressive players can offer true protection allowing Pirlo to move much further forward and be alot more influential around the opponents penalty box. I'd rather have Pirlo 25/30 yards out from the opponents goal where he's a much bigger threat than 30/40 yards out.

You could always replace Mascherano with Maxi. It would be a nice dream to be able to get both.

all in all....as a regista Pirlo SHOULD BE PROTECTED all the time right?

that's ridiculous imo.....that's the outcome of Carletto's experiment that'd been figured out by our opponents.

My point is...we got to have more quality midfielders so that will help Carlo adjusting the system if needed, rotations by all means.

Cheers

Anyway Jim, where's Seedorf

Well, we can forget about Diarra. In an Italian paper today it said that he's happy he'll be playing for Real and bla bla bla. Well, we lost another one.

It's sad to see Milan fans making comments like these. A constant starter for the last 4-5 years. Good Milan player who never mentioned considering playing elsewhere. It's a real tragedy indeed. Saying "if he's lucky" to be on the bench! wow.
