Great post....his passing, vision, elegance are often overlooked but however when he is not on the field, as mentioned it is very noticable. In these last few years even his defencive skills are great. He is one of the leaders in breaking up passes in our team from what I read by some stats provided by Tony recently. Simply, when Pirlo is on form, Milan's midfield is very very hard to cope with. It's like the guy has 20 pairs of eyes on his body. He sees everything on the field and rarely does he make the wrong decisions. If we are to win the CL again this year, it will surely be him that will be the most important weapon in controlling the rest of the games.

How come no one mentioned his free kicks?

He is such an outstanding player, great partnership with Guttuso with him in a defending role. Pirlo is one of them unsunng geros in your team, not mentioned alot with the likes of kaka & co. but is the heart of the team.

What makes it even better, we got him off our cousins. Muwahahaha

coz most of the time it was blocked? although, when it was scored, the goal was indeed very nice (e.g., against Cagliari).

Pirlo normally doesn't go for goals from freekicks. He usually try to pass to teammates to score, Gila is one who benefit from his freekicks.

In actual fact, i seldom see him miss whenever he decide to go for goal.

Then why doesn't he always go for the goal instead?

Why not you ask him what influence his decision to go for goal? I really don't know why, he just seldom try to score from freekicks, usually he try to set up his teammates even when he has the chance to score.

Probably... well anyway hopefully he'll score against Man U and that will be just 'delicious'...

Career

Pirlo was born in Flero, Brescia. His father owns two ironworks. His brother Ivan is also a soccer player for a C2 Series club in Brescia. He played for Brescia (1994-98 and 2001), Internazionale (1998-99 and 2000), Reggina (1999-2000), and AC Milan (2001-). With Milan, he won one Scudetto and one Champions League title. He also won an Italian Cup and a UEFA Super Cup with Milan in 2003. For Italy, Pirlo played at the 2000 Summer Olympics, won the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics, played at the Euro 2004, and won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. In his younger days, Pirlo captained Italy to an Under-21 European Championship in 2000.Pirlo is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A. An accurate passer, he has a deep-seated playmaking role at AC Milan and Italy. At Milan the game is focused around his ability to dictate play and control the game's tempo. His lack of the physical stature for a defensive midfielder is compensated by his technique, and his defensive qualities have improved considerably, although they are still limited. Nevertheless, this is not an issue for his team as he is backed up in midfield by more physical players like Gennaro Gattuso and Clarence Seedorf. A dead ball specialist, Pirlo is the first choice taker of corner and free kicks. In the 2005-2006 season Pirlo scored four times from free-kicks, matching the previous record (three times by Demetrio Albertini and one by Frank Rijkaard).
