Soccer scandal, Roma come out

Roma's name come out in the scandal which is upsetting soccer world.

According to some newspapers, such as "il Giornale", the name of yellow red club come out during investigations about Gea-

At this moment there are no charge or inquired in Roman club, but there are some rumors about a phone call between Paolo Bergamo, one of the referee selecter at the center of the scandal, and Roma's president Franco Sensi about some referee "welcome" by yellow reds president, intercepted in 2002 by Guardia di Finanza of Livorno.

in exchange for this favour, Bergamo would have received some help to stipulateinsurance policies by Ina Assitalia-that was Roma's sponsor-. The former referee (Bergamo) was general agent of Ina Assitalia in Livorno province.

The investigation itself was left but, after last days developments, may come back as an important one and tre public prosecutor who took documents from Livorno prosecutor office was Luca Palamara who is investigating about Moggi.

The points of the inquiry are, as a whole, three

1) the sudden peace between Moggi and Sensi family, "broke out" between the end of 2004 and 2005 last summer after years of quarreling: after this Roma was able to transfer some Gea player after years of unuseful attempts.

2) An Interception by Naple prosecutors of a phone call in which Moggi was speaking about an exchange between a "contract" for Roma and Emerson transfer to Juventus.

3) Last fryday interrogation of Franco Baldini, former red yellow managerand Moggi's enemy, who would have confirmed every previous accusation to GEA and to black-white manager who left Roma after the club entered in the sphere of Luciano and Alessandro Moggi.

This is the phone call between Moggi and Giraudo which arouse prosecutors suspicion:

Giraudo(about Mazzoleni, Roma manager): This one go on breaking b***s, Do they want make matches contract, does'n they? About the number of matches we guarantee. So I said, ok, we will not make the contract if you do not settle Emerson eh? It's necessary you settle Emerson and in this context we will settle the contract(...)
Moggi:"We have to do this in the context, Those people have no face!

As in other cases we are waiting for developments.
thanks for translating that..brilliant job.

According to the latest news (from a CHinese source that I read which tends to be very reliable and corresponds well with whatever we have been discussing here), Moggi broke down about 2hrs into the hearing (which lasted 6hrs).

Galliani and Ancelotti were also summoned, but both of them appeared calm after the 'trial'. When asked whether he'll resign as the president of the League, he replied, "Of course not".

Sounds like a good investment buying them when they are in Serie B/C. at the bottom and on the way up.

from what I read he did a lot of "play acting", fake mood swings to seem the victim. But the prosecutors doing the talking are experienced in taking care of Mafioso so...

I personally think it is only speculation that Juventus would drop down to Serie B or C at this stage. Remember that there is no-one running the show at the FIGC(italian football governing body) at the moment because both the prez & vice-prez resigned so there isn't exactly anybody around to make that sort of decision. I think some Italian Olympic federation guy is in charge.
Also remember that the new season of Serie A starts in only a few months so a decision would have to be made very quickly. And in Italy quick legally binding decisions just don't happen.
We will see.

it has been reported here in Australia via La Gazzetta Dello Sport that Zelko Kalac was filmed entering a 'betting shop' and that's it. Not really incriminating but they reported it anyway, it was like two lines of an article.

I don not agree, FIGC is now under emergency rule, Italian olympic comitee designated Guido Rossi, former president of Consob, a board which control Italian stock exchange, as special commissioner for FIGC.
He promised quick decisions.
Then we have to separate penal law which requires long time, and sport law which requires less evidence and is faster.

Plus, decisions have to be made quickly, or at least before July (27th I believe) which represents the deadline for FAīs to submit to UEFA the list of participating clubs in next seasonīs UCL.

Also, I think these threads should be merges, as indeed, very little differs from thread to thread all discussing the basic premise...but I will let my other mod friends make that call...for the record, though stated above, I think we should do a major merge...

I would rather that "nothing happens to us, because we are innocent", than, as Gio has put it: "nothing serious will happen to us"...

I for one, find it hard to believe that we are guilty of anything...especially as our record doesnt look like we were doing anything dodgy...in fact, if we were cheating..then we were cheating very badly!

Humm now if that is the case I think we all would be even more upset then we already are! Geesh if you can't even cheat and win then what good are you? Cheating and loosing is just pathetic and laughable.
