Ancelotti desperate for Pato
Thursday 2 July, 2009

Carlo Ancelotti is so desperate to lure Milan striker Alexandre Pato he has delayed his arrival at Chelsea, according to The Sun.

Ancelotti signed Pato for Milan in 2007 and became very close to him during their two years together.

In June, Pato said that before committing his future to the Rossoneri he would give his mentor a call to ask for advice.

The Sun understands Milan will meet Chelsea in the next 24 hours to broker a deal.

The report runs contrary to statements made by Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani, who has reiterated the club's desire to keep Pato on several occasions this summer.

Galliani recently revealed the Rossoneri had turned down 'a monster offer' for the 19-year-old Brazil international.

The Sun claims Chelsea were behind that bid, offering £31m for Pato.

Later on in the report, Milan sources are cited as saying the club will settle for a deal worth £40m.

Pato is widely regarded as the best teenager in world football.

He scored 18 goals in 42 appearances for Milan in his first full season at the club.

Benzema=35mil.
Why the heck did Milan not offer that to Lyon instead of going to pay eventually 30Mil for Dzeko.
I personally think Benzema is much much better player than Dzeko. If Benzema got 35m (I don't know where the number comes from but I read 30M on some site), Dzeko should get about 20m only. People may accuse me of not watching Dzeko enough (which is true, I have only watched 1-2 matches of him, not including youtube). But I have watch enough Benzema to say he have terrific skill. If I had to choose between Benzema and Torres now I would always choose Benzema (I think Torres is not worse than Benzema, but personally I would pick Benzema). Benzema has also played on big stage, Dzeko have only played in Bundesliga. Dzeko has this phenomenol year, but Benzema plays well in recent seasons and what makes we like Dzeko most maybe his 23 years old, Benzema is 1 year younger than Dzeko.

Real are offering crazy offer for players, but to Benzema, I think it's not really a overpaid one. (if it's 30M like some reports). I would be upset to see Dzeko arrive at >20M but I would be very happy to see benzema arrive at 30M.

PS: when talking about football, I use pound

I don't think you have to worry about that happening. Just paper crap. Or maybe it's something that was floated by Galliani to lower expectations so that whoever Milan does bring in looks extra good.

Oh, I can make you feel even worse than that...

Alexandre Pato: Manchester United Turn to £35M Brazilian Teen Sensation as Benzema Nears Madrid

Reports in Italy suggest Manchester United have entered the chase for AC Milan’s teenage star Alexandre Pato after being outbid by Real Madrid for number one target Karim Benzema. Chelsea have been attempting to bring the young Brazilian to Stamford Bridge all summer but Sir Alex has now expressed a strong interest.

It’s of no surprise that two of the wealthiest clubs in the world are chasing the 19-year-old as he enjoyed a fantastic season and his age marks him down as a terrific prospect. Last season Pato scored 15 league goals in 36 league games for Milan (27 starts) which was the 5th best record in Serie A and only one goal behind Real Madrid new boy Kaka.

I think a club like Milan is a selling club now, and players can sense that. In my opinion, Pato could leave within 3 years. Also, violence, racism, mediocre contracts, lack of marketing etc. play their part.

We have to get used to this.

Nothing new, but an interesting opinion piece....

Calcio Debate: Which Striker Should AC Milan Buy?

Italian giants AC Milan are hunting for a top class striker in order to reinforce their squad for next season. Goal.com's Subhankar Mondal draws up a list of possible signings…..
2 Jul 2009 11:45:03

AC Milan have already lost their most prized asset Kaka to Real Madrid and have also let the man who could have replaced him -Yoann Gourcuff- return to France. Their star striker and most consistent player last season, Alexandre Pato, was reportedly set to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea but now those fears have been allayed and Milan are in the market to sign a world class striker who could partner the 19-year-old Brazilian international.

Pato would be the main hitman for next season but who would play alongside him? Below we look at some of the forwards available in the transfer market for Milan to sign.

1.Edin Dzeko (VfL Wolfsburg): Milan's prospective first choice striker this summer, Edin Dzeko, has just come off a sensational season in which he scored 26 goals and gave six assists to lead Wolfsburg to the league championship. Dzeko is a fantastic player with marvellous accuracy and can score from virtually anywhere. At one point Milan did manage to convince Dzeko but Wolfsburg have sternly refused to listen to any offer for the 23-year-old, who with his clinical finishing and superb positioning would be a great asset for the Rossoneri.

2.Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal): Adebayor had a brilliant season for Arsenal in 2007-2008 but was a major disappointment last term. Adebayor can be a good targetman and as he showed against Villarreal in the Champions League he is capable of scoring the odd sensational goal; but he is 25 and is yet to completely convince. Adebayor is malignantly inconsistent but he can give Milan an aerial advantage.

3.Luis Fabiano (Sevilla): Maybe not a world-class striker but Luis Fabiano's ability to find goals on a regular basis for Sevilla and for Brazil make him a very capable player. The 28-year-old has been excellent for Sevilla over the years and a move to Milan in a World Cup year could just propel his game to a higher level. Fabiano is a team player and would combine well with compatriots Pato and Ronaldinho.

4.Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona): It's Inter and not Milan who have been linked with Samuel Eto'o but Adriano Galliani and co might well try and give it a shot. The Cameroonian is apparently on his way out of Camp Nou and although Manchester City have the monetary power to lure the Barcelona striker to England, Milan's Champions League carrot could be used to attract the second best striker in Europe to Serie A.

5.Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli): If Aurelio De Laurentiis is to be believed, then Ezequiel Lavezzi is a bad character who takes the night life rather too boisterously. But if the Serie A matches in which the 24-year-old has featured so far are to be believed, then he is a superb talent who needs to move to a bigger club to take his game to a higher level. Well built and gifted with pace, the former San Lorenzo striker has been a revelation for Napoli over the past two seasons and has hinted that he would like to leave this summer.

6.Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria): Signing Antonio Cassano would solve all of Milan's problems upfront as the mercurial 26-year-old not only scores goals but creates them too. Last season he was one of the best Italian players in Serie A, had the second highest number of assists to his name and was the most fouled player. 'Peter Pan' is only now starting to fulfil his ferocious talent but his unpredictable nature and difficult character would not be very conducive for the Milan dressing room. Although Cassano is brilliant with the ball, at times off the ball he can and does get cold feet.

7.David Trezeguet (Juventus): Milan had been linked with Juventus striker David Trezeguet earlier and although the Frenchman's agent has dismissed a summer departure, there could still be a chance that the 31-year-old moves out of Turin. Trezegol would be a perfect targetman for Milan and although he was not in his best form last season, Trezeguet’s Serie A experience would be a good addition to Leonardo’s side.

8.David Villa (Valencia): David Villa is arguably the best striker in Europe and is every club's dream signing. But the problem is that the Spanish international has already made it clear that he wants to play on in the Spanish Primera Division. Moreover, Milan would not be able to cough up the required amount that Valencia want for the 27-year-old. Villa would be a great addition to the Milan side and would guarantee the goals Milan require to win the Serie A next season.

9.Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Real Madrid): Real Madrid’s January recruit Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is on his way out of the Bernabeu. The 25-year-old has been a prolific goalscorer in the Dutch league and 8 goals in 13 league starts for Madrid are reasonably good. The 'Hunter' has the Ruud van Nistelrooy-esque clinical finishing ability and with Ronaldinho feeding him with the ball, the Dutchman would be certain of getting enough chances.

10. Peter Crouch (Portsmouth): We had to include the Robot King, following the shock reports last night that Milan were lineing up a move for the 28-year-old. While the speculation is only speculation at the moment, Crouch is surely not a viable option. Is he?

Writer's Choice:

Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona): Samuel Eto'o can be a very difficult person to deal with, but the 28-year-old is also a very difficult striker to play against, refusing to score fewer than 30 goals every season. Eto'o has been one of the most consistent strikers in Spain over the past four or five years and with his athleticism, work ethic and clinical finishing would be the perfect striker for Milan. Eto'o guarantees goals galore at the San Siro and although he might not share a very healthy relationship with Ronaldinho off the pitch, on the pitch the duo combine perfectly.

I just read Cassano has turned up a week early for preseason training . I'm not Cassano's biggest fan due to his behaviour and for that reason I've always dismissed him as a signing. However, he's really driven to make the Italian national squad and it shows. This drive has resulted in him not only curbing his attitude (I haven't really heard much about him since the early days at Samp), but also he's really making the extra step to try and impress Lippi. Quite honestly, this drive he's got these days (and it should maintain for Euro 2012 and WC 2014) could well make him a viable option. A determined Cassano that's almost professional is surely a player to have.

The Sun really isn't reputable. It's not much better than trusting AS or Marca.

35m for Benzema is really overpaying, he's not worth anywhere near that at this point. Dzeko isn't worth 30m and I'm pretty sure we won't pay that sum should he come (the most I can see us paying is 25m and that's a steep price).

We are talking about the UEFA President Michel Platini, who in an interview with l'Equipe expressed more concerns about a market of Florentino Perez.

"On a personal level I do not understand how you can spend 90 million euros to buy a player, it's one thing that embarrasses me just at the thought. In fact it is the entire market of Real Madrid makes me think (have already spent 216 million euro), but if you have the guarantee of banks ...".

Despite this, Platini is to move to avoid "spill": "We will do something and we're working on it. But we can not find solutions in the short term, it will take two or three years. In any case one thing is sure, I want to establish of the rules. "
I know Platini talks like this a lot, and they really must do something as Real Madrid's mercato is just ridiculous (never mind the inflation by English clubs in recent years).

I don't think it's that the top players no longer want to come to Serie A. Milan, in particular, is still the greatest club of the past couple of decades and many great players grew up dreaming of playing for Milan. The problem is that Serie A clubs can no longer afford the top players. As I said in another post, Serie A has found itself in a similar place as the English league was in 20 years ago (when Serie A was arguably the best league in the world). The teams are playing in crumbling stadiums in front of dwindling crowds. Violence, as you pointed out, has become a problem, as it was in England in the 80s. Revenue streams are down.

The tax system is hurting Serie A as well. No matter now much a player might want to play for Milan, if a Spanish club can afford to pay him what will amount to 25% more in his pocket, the player is going to choose to play in Spain. After all, it's a business. Maybe Italy should think about enacting a "Beckham Law" like the one in Spain (do you hear that Mr. Prime Minister?). Oddly enough, this is actually becoming a problem for England as well. It seems new tax laws are making it a bit tougher for them to compete with Spain.

It's a tough time for Serie A and Milan is no exception, but things can be turned around, just as they were in England. There needs to be serious investment -- league-wide -- in new or upgraded facilities; better efforts to curb fan violence; better terms for television contracts and more revenue streams, etc. The bad economy make it especially difficult and it will take time to turn things around, but it can be done.

As for being a "selling club," well, the truth is that all clubs are selling clubs and always have been. Milan sold great players in the 90s. Manchester United just sold Ronaldo and let Tevez go. Players have been bought and sold all along. That's something that won't change.

The other thing is (I was reading this somewhere reliable) the tax rate in England is going to be 50% next year. So, it shows that if Serie A had marketed itself better in this last decade, it could have offset some of these financial problems.

The problems that I mentioned are important to highlight, but even more significantly, Italian football is full of corruption. There is no sense of pulling in the same direction. In England, once a problem surfaces, the league is in lockstep as to the measures. Fans there are actually punished for chanting obscene noises. In Italy, they are given a slight reprimand, and invariably turn up the following week. The TV rights deal was a long time coming, but the problem is Serie A clubs will not get ownership of their stadia in the near future (I have discussed this before). The only hope was steady investment a la Moratti, but Berlusconi now wants to stop that as well.

Leagues have jostled for eminence in the past. However, TV rights and a global market means that every year Serie A falls immeasurably behind. The Bundesliga with its solid financial structure and modern stadia is threatening to overtake Italy in the next 2-3 years. Things are seriously wrong. Certainly, Serie A is operating within a grim context. The unemployment rate in Italy is soaring, and the youth are increasingly disenfranchised. The economy is struggling to cope.

There are some positives but it is for clubs like Chievo, Atalanta etc. who will now suddenly see a lot more money from TV rights. Good for them. But for the top 3 clubs, I expect a long and fruitless decade. I could be wrong, and God willing I am.

Platini is a jokerman who does what rich people tell him to do and then he talks nice things about humaniti afterwards. Platini is a clown of UEFA.

And this Pato rumors are simply too much, can we sell Pato? Really, where is the limit? "the club is not for sale", but everything in it is?

Pirlo will soon be sold, which will make Milan earn more then 100mln from sales of players. Its impossible to bare it anymore.

Benzema should have been our player, Galliani doesnt do anything, he just comes and buys 5th player on the list who noone wanted as he didnt work on other players.

"Hello, can we buy this player?"
"no, we already have a deal with Chelsea, Madris few months ago..."
"ok..."

news:" milan goes for young players, bla,bla..."

We need to stop this, not get used to it. Milan is not Milan if we become a club like Arsenal... selling club as you say.

MAybe top players dont want to come, but players like Kaka', Pato, Gourcuff, aremall ready to play for Milan. But Milan doesnt want that, Milan wants pure money for something which I dont know what is. They call it "books".

Cassano, Pato, and Dinho upfront...I would be extremely happy for this. Cassano is turning 27 and I think is finally seeing that his antics need to stop. I still remember seeing him cry when Italy crashed out of Euro 2004. He wants to play for his country.

With him showing up early for training, it shows he is ready to go. I'm not really sure why he is being written off so quickly.

Cassano really seemed to settle down and take life more seriously after he found his water polo playing teenage girlfriend. I guess it must be true love!

I agree. It's a ridiculous price. Everybody complains about Milan being linked with Adebayor and says he's rubbish, but Adebayor actually has a better goalscoring rate in EPL than Benzema has in the inferior French league (not that either has a bad scoring rate, mind you). Benzema is very inconsistent. Sometimes he's brilliant. Sometimes he goes through stretches where he's crap. Not the sort of player you pay 35 million pounds (or even euros) for.

Dev, I really don't think 30 or 35mil for Benzema is overpaying him. Considering Dzeko will come at 25-30mil.

I mean if Benzema is a Milan player for that amount, you will probably saying, take that RM, as Milan just got a bargain while you have to pay twice as much to get a player.

Compared to paying 35 million pounds for Benzema, Kaka was a huge bargain at 59 million. Why would you pay so much for such an inconsistent player? They probably could have had Adebayor (who is just as good and equally inconsistent) for half the price.
