Alves, of course, might someday be the best of all, but I don't think he's matched Cafu's best so far.
My bad if that was the case!

Obviously I would take vintage Cafu over vintage Zambrotta.

Ah, well, the conversation got confusing. But definitely you'd have to go back a long way to surpass Cafu in his prime!

The Zambrotta transfer

Some guys in here has been "crying" why we did not get Zambrotta. Here is his, quite interesting, comments about his transfer to Barca (from channel4.com)

Zambro: Juve betrayed me!!

Gianluca Zambrotta left demoted Juventus, but insists he feels betrayed by the club and would’ve preferred Milan to Barcelona.

“I am not a mercenary,” he told newspaper ‘Tuttosport’. “I gave my heart to Juve for seven years and never thought I’d see two of the Scudetti wiped from my record. I feel betrayed by the former directors.”

The World Cup winner has joined Barca along with Lilian Thuram, while ex-Bianconeri teammates Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira have also moved on following the Calciopoli scandal.

Juventus saw the 2004-05 and 2005-06 titles revoked, the team demoted and ordered to start the new season in Serie B with a 17-point handicap for match-fixing allegations aimed at former directors Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo.

This week new President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli told newspapers he was “let down” by Zambrotta and Cannavaro for deciding to jump ship.

“I was very upset by that statement,” responded the full-back. “It wasn’t fair on me. When I explained to the new directors, just the once, that I wasn’t too sure I wanted to play in Serie B, they immediately set up this move to Barcelona. The reason is they already had an agreement with the Spanish side, whereas my agent had spoken to me about Milan. I had to adapt.”

*************************

So we tried, but seems like Juve did want to sell him to us... we have been unlucky (or poor) in this transfer campaign to be honest...

A very shocking, surprising and sad story, indeed... Zambrotta would have been a very worth signing, and it's extremely painful to know that the guy wanted to join us.

I was thinking... why not replace Amoroso with Vucinic? I guess it would be a very good move.

Why not Reyes?

I've read that Atletico Madrid is offering 16 M euros for him, meanwhile Arsenal is demanding 18 M for the guy, so I guess that we can perfectly try to sign him! He's a very skilful, fast and young player, that can play with great quality both as second striker and as attacking mifielder with left-winger sensibilities.

He would be a fantastic reinforcement to us, giving very interesting tatical and technical options to the side, what do you think?

I know Vadim, I only wish that Zambrotta will only stay in Barcelona for one year and by next summer he will be wearing the Red and Black

The problem with Milan is that, they do not want to over spend to get players. They always want to get value players. Now I am not suggesting they should pay three or four times the amount for Zambrotta, but at least don't undervalue him or any other stars. I mean, Real payed 25M for Diarra, Chelsea payed 35Mto 50 M for Sheva.... Why is Milan not willing to pay abit above market price for players that have what it takes to succeed. Guys like Zambrotta, whom I think if Milan offered just abit more, Juve will sell. Or Ibra or Diarra or Veira or Cannavaro or Tevez or Oddo or Buffon.... Instead of trying to get a good deal. I mean, I don't think u can get someone like Tevez with 10M, but I am sure 18M for Tevez would do or at least tempting. BUt no Milan just don't want to spend 18M on someone, they would rather sign someone for free to sit on their bench and pay them 2M salary per year.

Go figures, wait a minute, I think Milan can sign me for free and I don't mind sitting on the bench. Heck I don't need 2M/yr, b/c I deserve 3M/yr. And maybe thats why Favalli is playing for Milan while I am not

Exactly, EXACTLY! As I've been saying since a long time ago: the board is not reacting with the correct frame of mind to the ruthless and manic reality of today's football market. So if you wanna break big, you have to open your wallet, there's no other way to do it.

Unfortunatelly we'll never see again a side like Steaua Bucuresti or Crvena Zvezda raising a CL trophy, 'cause football is more and more dominated by the big business power.

Gre-no-li, i think Reyes wants to move back to Spain. I don't think a move to Italy would be tempting for him.

We should go for Maresca & Alves from Seville. Done very well vs Barca in Super Cup. Alves is perfect replacement for Cafu. Leave Oddo, keep Foggia, get Alves. Maresca would give us a multi-purpose midfielder that we need. We can let Vogel go then, as should be a 1st choice for someone.

we seem to be living in the past regarding transfer fees. big players, due to the marketing potential, are more expensive these days, it's a fact we can't grasp.

Why spend so much on Diarra (25m), Ronaldo, Zambrotta, Ibrahimovic while we managed the Kaka deal with only USD 6 m.
