I beg to differ...the first club, globally to pay an "exorbitant" sum for a player, was....wait for it....AC Milan...we established the "world record" transfer, way back in the early 1900s....a legacy continued by our very own Berlu...so to say it isnt in our DNA, implies a lack of knowledge of our history...not picking on you bro, just stating the facts....

We payed world record sums and salaries to get the Dutch trio...and Rui Costa´s huge pricetag was only overshadowed by the insanity going on that season, with Lazio, et al spending huge sums for players as well.

Berlu, as has been pointed out, maybe in this very thread, by Tony I believe, is feeling his mortality, and will want to go out with a bang, by bringing back the Milan of the 90s....and the way to start that....Ronaldinho...Zambrotta, et al.

Cant wait for next silly season.....its going to be a humdinger!!

and followed that up of course with another world record transfer fee for Lentini a few years later.

What i would like to know is if getting Ronaldinho will get more people back in the stadium? Our average attendance i would guess is around the 40-45,000 mark for home games. It's a shame to see so many empty seats, it maybe fanciful to hope that Ronaldinho could some how entice & attract another 30-35,000 people to watch us play every other week ... but that is what i wish

Actually, Milan broke the world transfer record 4 times , and that is a record itself. Only Juventus did the same : http://www.footballtransfers.co.uk/t...istorical.html

And Silvio Berlusconi is the only man on earth who broke the world record 3 times and equalised the world record 1 more time.

The first time Milan payed a world record fee was back in 1952 when they bought the Uruguayian Schiaffino for 52 000 pounds ( i know it looks funny now but i guess it was big money back then).
Then Berlusconi came and started breaking every single record there was.
First it was Ruud Gullit, bought from PSV for 6m pounds. Then it was Pappin from Marselle ( 10m) and at the end it was Lentini ( 13m).
Roberto Baggio's transfer in 1995 equaled Lentini's world record transfer.

It's almost 14 years since the last time Berlu broke a transfer record. I think this will be the year and Dinho will take away the "tittle" from Zidane !

Btw, anybody knows who was Milan's most expensive player and how much did Milan pay for him ?
He wasn't Italian or Brasilian. He isn't in Milan anymore and his price was between 20 and 30 m pounds.
Who was he

And the year Rui was bought ( year 2001) was the crazyest year regarding football transfers. Everyone went nuts, especially the Italian teams.

These are the top13 transfers that year. You can get a headache just by looking at these numbers. 10 of these players were bought by Italian clubs.

Zidane ( from Juve to Real) for 73m Eur
Buffon ( Parma to Juve) for 49m Eur
Mendieta ( Valencia to Lazio) for 43.5m Eur
Veron ( Lazio to ManU) for 42m Eur
Rui Costa ( Fiorentina to Milan) for 42m Eur
Nedved ( Lazio to Juve) for 38m Eur
Thuram ( Parma to Juve) for 33m Eur
Nakata ( Roma to Parma) for 27.5m Eur
Van Nistelrooy ( Psv to Manu) for 27.5m Eur
Cassano ( Bari to Roma) for 27.5m Eur
Toldo ( Fiorentina/Inter) for 27m Eur
Inzaghi ( Juve/Milan) for 25.5m Eur
Stam ( ManU / Lazio) for 24.5m Eur

They're legend

But seriously, why does you always signed old aging players? Did Uncle Berlu has lost the plot?

Yes, I also believe that it's about time Berlu stepped up and did what he normally does---Break the bank!!

In fact, at Tony and Warro pointed out, it's very much in our DNA to spend on big-name players. Perhaps, we did go overboard in the mid-90's and although success was mixed, a lot of big name players came, were not given enough chances, and went. I think the managment may have realized that no matter how many big stars you sign, you can only play 11 at a time and they have to function as a team, meaning there has to be the right balance of flair players, and hardworking players who will clean up the mess.

Right now, I see the balance in our team as being excellent. Instead of going for 5 or 6 big name signings who will either sit on the bench or push our current starters on the bench, I'd rather we go for an impact player, who will come in and be able to take us that next step forward, somebody who can win games on his own, and in addition entertain the public, increase the club profile, and put bums on seats. Ronaldinho, anyone?

Ronaldinho’s brother and agent Roberto Assis has met with Milan representatives in Brazil, according to reports in Spain.

The Barcelona star has long since been on the Rossoneri’s wish list, as they have repeatedly stated that if Ronaldinho leaves Barca, it will be to join Milan.

The Brazilian’s contract with the Blaugrana expires in 2010 and all conversations to extend the deal have failed so far, suggesting that a summer move could be on the cards.

Spanish newspaper AS reported on Friday that Assis met two Milan representatives in Sao Paulo last week to discuss Ronaldinho’s future.

In addition, Barca officials Txiki Beguiristain and Ferran Soriano were also sighted in the South American city, fuelling speculation that all the parties involved might be close to reaching an agreement.

Assis is now expected to return to Spain in the next few days, when he is scheduled to hold crucial meetings with the Blaugrana management.

Milan President Silvio Berlusconi had recently claimed that he was ready to spend over £70m to bring the ‘Dinho to the San Siro, reiterating that his club was in pole position to sign the player.

However, the Selecao star cooled all transfer talks on Thursday, declaring that he did not believe he would move in the summer.

I do wonder if R10 was playing for us what the final scoreline would of been at OT.
