According to the official website, the Bayern medical staff is not pessimistic for Kahn playing on Tuesday and Kahn is hard fighting guy, he will definitely play! http://www.fcbayern.t-com.de/de/aktu...473c82289ea9eb |

Its not so important will Kahn play or not.He is world class and a leadre, but we will need to be 100% in the game to get positive result from this game. our trident up front is great (kaka-sheva-gila),they know it very well. But we ned to win it in the middle, and if Pirlo is not 100% fit maybe Vogle should really play from the start. If we manage to shut down bayern in the middle,we will slowly take control and kill them off with sheva, kaka and Gilardino. Im sure we wont rush forward,of course, and Bayern will be playing like they did against Juve, and that means strong. So...Seedorf,gattuso and Pirlo/Vogel need to be great.

UEFA Champions League: 2005-6 Round of 16 - First Leg FC Bayern München vs. A.C. Milan Allianz Arena, Munich - DEUTSCHLAND Capacity: 69,000 ![]() ![]() Tuesday [February 21, 2006] Kick-off -> 19:45 (UK Time): Sky Sports PREVIEW ======= Two of Europe's finest pure breeds face-off in this enthralling tie for only a place in the QF of this elite competition. Milan had to play hard-ball in a group of death to be rewarded by a meeting with an FC Bayern side that sits at the top of the Bundesliga table with a comfortable 9 point lead and still competing in the DFB Cup. Bayern coach Felix Magath has serious intentions of at least winning the domestic double and then add another European Cup to his club's trophy cabinet if the opportunity presents itself. It is safe to say that Bayern are favourites for achieving the domestic double at the writing of this preview.Their side is good enough to win the European Cup as well IMO but it is difficult to win the whole shabang unless the opponents mess it up bad or it is just your night. Milan Chief Executive Adriano Galliani was correct in suggesting a knock-out draw that paired the number 1 seed with the number 16 seed similar to the format in tennis tournaments. He has a valid suggestion and it is something that UEFA should look at for the future. This round will see 3 good sides say goodbye to the competition because of the luck of the draw. What did Milan do wrong to draw Bayern while at the same time Villareal end up with Rangers? This stage will be far more exciting than the QF stage and the chances of reduced audiences looms as 3 high profile teams will go out. My devilish side is happy that we got Bayern as a tough route to the final is usually a good omen according to my thinking pattern which is deluded but somewhat accurate. Milan got the worst team out of Pot 2 but at the same time Bayern drew their nemesis team from Pot 1 in Milan. Bayern is yet to defeat Milan in a European knock-out tie with Milan marching on to European glory after eliminating Bayern on all three past occasions. I don't think that Milan can get to the Stade de France, St. Denis - Paris in the month of May. It will be even tough to get to the QF but Milan must make it their business to be the fly in the ointment in this competition. The team has just been shaken really badly since the turn of the year but it is a self-created problem. It has been a primary aim for the season since last Summer to reach the European Cup Final. The likelihood of that happening is rare if you ask me but it is the team's obligation and debt to Paolo Maldini to really take a shot at glory before a new look Milan side surfaces next season. It is the principle that must be honoured. ============== ---> B A Y E R N <--- ============== Bayern has been on a rampage in the Bundesliga losing only once in an away game to Hamburg SV in a 2-0 defeat which took place in September [2005]! The only other defeat was to La Vecchia Signora in the Stadio Delle Alpi (I typed "Empty" by mistake in the flow! ) on Matchday 4 of the UCL. Bayern is undefeated in the last 15 games that includes both the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup and are undefeated as yet in their utterly gorgeous Allianz Arena that is just a treat for the eyes. They have a comfortable 9 point lead in the league giving them a chance to focus on the UCL entirely for the time being. Galliani talks about a new stadium a lot. The Arena AufSchalke is miniscule compared to the "presence" that the Allianz Arena has. If he can manage to make a 90,000 version of the Allianz Arena then it can be considered. Another option is to kick out Inter and bring in modern changes to the San Siro with a retractable roof and other facilities while Milan plays their games in the Delle Alpi and shows Juve a thing or two about filling their stadium coming from a different city for the games. Juve can move into the Olimpico in Rome for the time being.============ ---> M I L A N <--- ============ It's been a surprising and unpredictable season for Milan. The start was not exactly right in the league with a shaky start to the UCL that brought Milan to a tricky point. The league form recovered and got smoother but Juve's superb form made it difficult to keep up the pace and Milan started to falter badly. The steadying has taken place but Juve is still ahead by a lot of points while the UCL resumes. The team is quite shaky in defence even now but at the same time capable of keeping clean sheets and then conceding through bad mistakes in the next few games. Realistically, Milan doesn't have a chance of winning anything this season as the team is inconsistent to maintain pace with Juve who will have to crumble dramatically to let go off the Scudetto. It is unlikely with Capello at the helm. The UCL is the only trophy that Milan is fighting for but there are other better teams who have a better defence and better probability as they were not in last year's final. I don't know how much hunger and application the side possesses as this will be the first game after the break in the UCL and a lot has happened in this break. Milan can't play scared of losing. That will be the final curtain call because the defence is not solid enough to carry the day and thinking of playing with a clean sheet in mind first and foremost is restricting the attacking players to do what they are doing best this season. Probable Starting Line-Up(s) ======================= ------------------ ---> Bayern <--- ------------------ Formation: 4-4-2 diamond ---------------------------- Rensing ------------------------------ -- Sagnol ----------- Lucio --------- Ismael ------------- Lizarazu -- --------------------------- Demichelis ----------------------------- ------- Deisler --------------------------------- Ze Roberto -------- ----------------------------- Ballack ------------------------------- ----------------- Pizarro ------------- Makaay ---------------------- ------------------------------ --- Magath [B A Y E R N] --- ------------------------------ 1. The possible changes that Magath can play are Lahm at LB, Schweinsteiger in RM or LM and Karimi in RM. Salihamidzic is a utility player who can slot in at RB, LM or even one of the forward positions. Scholl can be a killer sub for any of the players and he needs to be watched on set-pieces. 2. The obvious man for Bayern is Ballack who makes the team click. He could depart in the Summer and any team purchasing him needs to know that he is not a very good DM but he is a very good attacking CM. Hitzfeld brought him to Bayern and tried to play him in DM but Ballack wasn't at his best. He is a goalscorer so he needs to be playing in the opponent's half. Makaay has been slowish this season but that doesn't take away his threat. Bayern will be hoping for a big game from Makaay. 3. Bayern's crowds have been excellent this season giving comfort to the management that they made a brilliant choice of moving to their new stadium. That will be a factor in this game as the last time Milan visited Bayern, they were still playing in that spider-web inspired Olimpiastadion. It will be quite a different atmosphere this time. The German crowds have started using choreography with hardcore fans forming groups to back their teams. That culture is building up and it makes it tougher for opponents to play in stadia like that. 4. Magath will surely put Demichelis on Kaka so it is upto Milan to utilize Pirlo, Seedorf and Shevchenko who are quite potent and threatening to make inroads towards the Bayern net with the No. 2 Rensing in goal as Kahn got injured over the weekend. He could return but he will not be 100% if that is the case. --------------- ---> Milan <--- --------------- Formation: 4-4-2 flat. ---------------------------- Dida ---------------------------------- -- Stam ------------ Nesta ------ Kaladze -------------- Serginho -- --- Kaka ---------- Gattuso ------ Pirlo ----------------- Seedorf --- ------------------- Gilardino ----- Shevchenko ---------------------- --------------------------- --- Ancelotti [M I L A N] --- --------------------------- 1. I don't know if he is scared or if he is willing to take the game to Bayern. Knowing that this is his last season in any case despite the press releases saying otherwise should at least give Ancelotti the confidence to make his team play the best they can. They have to attack and put pressure on Bayern. They are undefeated in their own stadium for good reason and the pressure needs to be piled up on them as if this was the second leg and a must win game for Milan. 2. A lot does depend on Kaka and starting him from the RM position to be a free flowing midfielder is the way to go. That will also put Ze Roberto under some pressure to mark Kaka and try to block him from that side. It will also enable Gattuso to be in the centre of the pitch and keep a good eye on Ballack who is in fine form. 3. All Milan players need to be sharp on shooting from distance as well as clinically efficient. Ancelotti needs to give them drills to improve their shooting as in games like these, you need players to take all the chances of scoring they can get. 4. A special eye needs to be on Ballack, Makaay and Deisler. Deisler is the top scorer for Bayern in the UCL with 3 goals. The Bayern side is strong in the air and we are weak in that area. That is a worrying point. I don't know how we can fix that problem that is present in our side for the last 3 seasons. KEY BATTLES ========== 1. Ballack vs. Gattuso 2. Demichelis vs. Kaka 3. Makaay vs. Nesta 4. Lucio vs. Shevchenko 5. Rensing vs. Dida KEY MEN ======= Ballack If Ballack is moving then this is his last European competition in Bayern's colours. In any case he is a professional and a match-winner who is dangerous in open play and set pieces. Milan has played him before and kept him under check as well. That is not to be confused with his current position where he is more lethal. He has a big role to play in this tie. Kaka His last trip to Deutschland wasn't that much fun as Poulsen was not in a mood to play football. Demichelis won't play like that but he will still make it hard for Kaka to move around. The experience of Schalke will come in handy this time around and hopefully Kaka will use that experience and his current good form to provide the big show. Remember this --- Kaka is directly proportional to Paris. PREDICTION This is a tough one to predict. European thoroughbreds against each other is always a treat. Bayern is undefeated for 15 straight games and that makes it a great opportunity for Milan to capitalize on that streak and break it. I think Utd. was undefeated for 17 matches when we played them last season. So that gives Milan the edge in that respect. But .... Bayern is undefeated in the Allianz Arena for the whole season and that is with good reason. On top of that Milan has a healthy record in Deutschland which can come to an end. Now this part is in favour of FC Hollywood as the local Bavarians refer to their team. Both sides don't have an ideal defence per se but the attack is doing the job for them. Bayern has a workaholic and efficient midfield German style while Milan has an enterprising midfield in the Milan style. Milan defeated Utd. in similar sort of circumstances last season but this is Bayern: A European powerhouse. It's always different with these sorts. I don't think Milan can pull off a win and do a back to back on Bayern on their own turf! It hasn't happened to them and they won't let it happen IMO. I don't think that Bayern is ready as yet to lose their first game in the Allianz Arena this season. They're loving every moment of it and they won't let go of that feeling so easily. Their last home game was a 4-0 mauling of Rapid Wein and it won't be easy to beat Bayern after that game in this competition.Milan won their last away game with absolute authority. It won't be easy to defeat Milan who are coming from a 0-4 thumping of Fener which was eventually the last away game Milan played in the UCL. That game will carry us for some time. Apart from that Milan is cornered with the only reprieve being the UCL this season. It is also the primary aim of the club and therefore they will not submit so easily. It will be mighty tough to defeat this Milan when all this team has is the UCL to cling on to. This team is made for these nights. It is quite a dilemma when neither side is ready to submit. The real fireworks and nervous moments will take place in the second leg with either side capable of winning it in the San Siro. --->>> I feel that we will see a scoring draw in the Allianz Arena doing what Juve couldn't do.

Hello to everybody!
Why Ancelotti doesn't use Simic instead of Stam at RB??? Stam is clearly a CB. This tactic makes Serginho to play as LB and Kaladze as CB :S :S :S Is Maldini fit for Bayern?? Thank you.

Yes he was quite good and fast against Cagliari. But we need him as a CB instead of Kaladze against Bayern.
Also, Simic played well against Cagliari. Is Maldini fit for Bayern???

Chances are we'll see Stam-Nesta as the CD pair vs bayern but shouldn't be a surprise if it's nesta-Kakha as kaladze has played very, very often in CB over the past 10 games or so and has performed excellent IMO. So, shouldn't be a surprise to see Carlo stick to the defence he seems to be favoring lately and go with a Nesta-Kakha pair.
I personally expect to see a solid defence with no attack-minded backs - something like Simic-Nesta-Stam-Kakha as Bayern is very dangerous on the wings and this is where most of their attacks come from. Should Carlo chose to use an attacking LB, however, I just don't see Janku starting ahead of Sergio as Janku has rarely played in that position this season. Actually he has rarely played at all, so unless we end up having Seedorf, Rui, Sergio all injured, I wouldn't count on seeing Janku start a game as important as this one. Plus, if I am not mistaken, he was injured for the last 2-3 games and only now returns to the squad. |
