Lippi and Wenger and are clearly a level above Carlo, but Lippi is Juventino and few years back Galliani said Lippi doesnt want to be in Milan. Things can change dough, with Lippi out of work Im sure that if Carlo leaves at one opint, and if Milan really wants him, he could be here. Wenger will not leave London, which is a real shame becouse, just think what he has done without any real money, and with Milanello and Silvio's cash, who could stop us?

would you care to explain how Lippi and Wenger are "clearly a level above Carlo"? Compare their domestic and CL records with Carlos?
The only thing Wenger has going for him is that he has no equal in finding young talent and doesn't have a problem trusting them with 1st team football. But so what? What has he achieved in CL with this approach so far - a CL final thanks to to all sorts of lucky coinsidances (playing an awfully out of shape Juve, Lehman saving a last minute PK vs Villareal, etc, etc) and this after how many attampts ... I lost count really. And mind you that Arsenal spends as much if not more cash than Milan on new players, so you can't argue that they are a poor club and Wenger has been hampered by the lack of money. And what did he do in the end - after numerous failures in Europe, he asked his team to play more defensively than an Italian team and do whatever it takes to literary scrape up a place in the final, which he lost, btw ![]() How about Lippi? Take a god look at his CL record and tell me how many CL finalshas he actually won? ... and as I remember correctly, that's one of the grudges you guys have vs Carlo - that he fails in the most important matches - i.e. Istanbul ... what would you have to say about Lippi - 3 out of 4 finals LOST and most of them were in a period when all other big teams in Europe were crap and Juve had no decent rivals, apart from maybe ManU, still Lippi managed to lose those finals vs the underdog team. On paper, Carlo's record may not be as shiny as Lippi's but let's not forget what calciopoli was all about and that if it was all honest business in Serie A, Carlo would have had, most probably, 2 more scudettos on his account for Milan - a trebble of consecutive titles that is. Add to that the fact that, despite so many teams having real CL title chances, Milan has been the best of the best since he took over, add to this the frugal, not to say misery, transfer policy of the club, and that would give you a more objective look on what Carlo has done for Milan and what he has had to deal with all these years.

I think Lippi is a better coach than Ancelotti but I think Ancelotti is a great coach.

If your answer is none, then think about this: Which team (not coach) has got to last 4 (not eight; I can't remember a single team when MIlan got kicked out during quarter-final) and have the best opporutinity to go for the glory, given that NO OTHER TEAM has achieved consecutive trophy in recent years? My final assertion: I dont' think Carlo is panicking for the lack of silverware, but some people here are... |

However, there is no guarantee that Lippi at Milan would even equal Carlo's success here, let alone surpass it. To change the heart of the team, when it's working nicely, just based on Lippi's record elsewhere would be an unnecessary risk IMO. Again, if Carlo MUST be changed for whatever reason, Lippi would be my first choice, not van Basten, not Donadoni, but Lippi. To change Carlo more or less for the heck of trying whether Lippi won't do even better than him, would be just plain stupid of us, I think.

As we're talking about 'Ifs', IF i had to choose another coach for our team, i would go for Wenger. His team plays the best Football in England and on their day are equals to Barca. Combine this ethic with our players, stir in a bit of talent spotting and you'd make an amazing team even better.

if Wenger takes over... expect Milan to field a winger as a lone striker... field a 4-5-1 formation & claim we are playin' attackin' football when in reality it is counter-attackin' football... moan all the time... keep havin' a sore-loser mentality... example bein' he wanted video replays to help decisions makin' in games like the CL final where Barca scored through Eto'o from a supposedly offside decision... the same video replay that would have judged Eboue divin' to win the FK in which they scored which would not have been given if video replays played a part... stupidity at its best...
as for Lippi... he failed at Inter... and only had real success with Juventus who at that time were payin' off match officials to "gurantee" success... but when in Europe... failed miserably because they cannot buy off match officials... |

Milan were lucky? How many times according to you? 5-10 ... they seem to be lucky every single year, right? When "luck" strikes you with such consistency, then it's obvious that there is something more to the picture than what meets the naked eye. How about Arsenal? How many memorable CL season they have had for all the years Wenger was there - 1, just 1. Now here one can speak of an ODD season for Arsenal since success in CL is ODD stroy for them ... while for Milan it's become a habit for us to be constantly one of the top and most consistent teams in the League - we've reached the point of when fans are used to seing us play semi-finals for CL and this competition has turned into something like a "private league" for us. And just for the record, yes we beat Bayern and Lyon - two of the best teams in Europe, we beat them fair and sqaure. And yes, Sheva's goal was a regula one and we had Barca on the ropes at San Siro, and no, Eto'os goal was NOT offside, replays show that but I guess when some people wanna believe something, there's no convincing them in the oposite. yes, wenger is great at finding young talent but what has that brought to his team - one odd season of successful peromance in CL out of 7-8+ attempts now. So, what's the point to find great talent if the team you build is good only for the EPL and falls short year after year in CL? Ironically, he finally found success in CL whan he asked his team to play some of the ugliest, most defensive and destructive football - just like a typical Italian team - of the whole Wenger era at Arsenal and only then did they reach beyound the 1/4 finals. And how many years did Wenger need to figure out what it take to succeed in CL ... 8-9, no 10 years, 10 whole years ... that's some foresight, aint it?But if you take your Wenger glasses off you will see that he has spend a lot of money for players as well - Reyes (20-25mil), van Persie (15 mil), BOTH Rosicky and Hleb cost him 10 mil EACH. Hit the jackpot by getting Sol Campbell as a free agent otherwise who knows how much money would have spent on him. Silvio USED to do for Milan what Roman is doing for Chelski now ... and that was long time ago. Since Carlo has come to Milan, the biggest transfers we've made was Nesta for 29 mil (when transfer fees were going crazy and one couldn't get a decent player for less than 20 mil) and Gila for 23 mil just last year. Other than that we mostly end up getting cheap players like Gorky, Kaka, etc, etc or players that were deemed too old by their clubs and released to join us for free - Cafu, Pancaro, Favalli, Dhorasoo - or outcasts like Seedorf, Pirlo, Simic, Brocchi, Crespo and not only, whose careers were virtually over and were seen as a bunch of wasted promises before Carlo's Milan picked them up and built around them one of the best teams out there. Not to mention that one of the best players that Carlo inherited at Milan - Pippo Inzaghi - spend two years struggling with injuries and Carlo had to sub him with who - JD Tomasson, a player who probably won't find a place even on Wenger's bench. So, don't give me this "Silvio gave Carlo all he asked for" theory because it may have been true for Sacchi and Capello but not for Carlo. Our current coach has had to deal with as much financial limitations as Wenger himslef, and who knows, maybe even more. And if Silvio's money were a guarantee for titles, why that wasn't the case in the period after Capello left and before carlo took over? Silvio's money were available back then too and Milan would buy a whole bunch of expensive players every single summer - we spent so much money in those years that Silvio had to pour in 100+ millions to cover the debts of the club. Yet, we were as anonymous in Italy and Europe as Milan had ever been - the most we could hope for was Uefa Cup football, get kicked in the early stages, and hope that UEFA would allow 4th placed teams into CL so that we could scrape through past CL preliminaries ... somehow. How come Silvio's money didn't result in anything back than if just about any coach would easily achieve what Carlo managed to do with Milan after one of the darkest periods in Milan's recent history? And what he has achieved? He made Milan to become again the most repsected and feared team in Europe. The most successful team in CL, no question here, any reasobale statistic proves it. He won 1 scudetto and got robbed from 2 more Serie A titles - 3 in 4 years isn't that bad, is it. And yes, I stand by what's in my signature - Carlo build his own luck in CL, nothing odd about it ... same goes for Wenger - he did create his own luck too - 1 respectable season out of 9 or 10 and raising many eyebrows regarding his team's miserable CL record over the years, a lot of ODD things about this one. Quote:
As for that arsenal breed loyalty thing, tell that to Cashley Cole ... and also Patrick Vieira ... actually, forget about the last one - he didn't leave Arsenal for the money, he left them cause he got tired of CL disappointments and 7-8 years of empty promises for something better than getting through the group stage in Europe. as I said, you have no idea what you are talking about, do you ![]()

From what SupremeMilan has written it seems he not really a Milan fan but more of an Arsenal fan. So what is the point of going on then? He is partisan as we are.
But still a couple of points...Carlo nurtured Kaka and is now nurturing Gorky (who, btw, Wenger wanted but Milan picked him from under his nose). He made Pirlo into perhaps the best midfielder in the business. Also people who compare Sheva to Henry have always made me laugh. Henry is a choke-artist extraordinaire. He has never done it for France and he has never done it for Arsenal when it really mattered. The most ludicrous thing that he uttered was before the World Cup Final, when in his typical megalomania, he said: "Italian defenders are not that great. I have no problem scoring against them in the Champions League and I shall have no problem scoring against them." Well he certainly proved it as he fizzled out and Canna kept him in check for most of the night. Henry is a flat-track bully, great against Charlton and other tactically naive teams in the EPL but poor against solid opposition. Sheva has performed for Milan (CL 2003) on the international stage when it mattered and he carried Ukraine to the World Cup. Also, Henry dug himself a big hole when in his typical Henry way he cried off when Arsenal were beaten by a better Barca team. He called them divers and claimed the ref must have had a "Barca shirt on"...surely, any plans he had then of moving were scuppered. Not the greatest way to endear yourself to new surroundings. Him not moving to Barca had little to do with whether or not he creams his pants for Arsenal, IMO. Also if I clearly remember he moaned to Arsene Wenger to help him out with a striker...during that Final. GREAT TEAM UNITY...it was like he was the boss telling him what to do. Wenger sure knows how to get respect Supreme wrote: haha, the only thing carlo has achieved more than wenger is a champions league and thats it, actually hold up u tell me what carlo has achieved as a manager hahaha....this really makes me laugh. The trophy with the big ears is a manager's Holy Grail. Sir Alex Ferguson, Marcello Lippi, Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho are in a class of their own for having won this thing. The chance to win the trophy comes around seldom.Wenger, urbane though he is, is a pissy, whiney manager who has fantastic ideas but lacks the stomach for success in Europe. Maybe he can actually prove that he deserves to be classed with the men above by winning the Champions League. He does command -- as you not so subtly point out -- the best players. Surely they can only oblige to do his bidding. Supreme wrote: zZ[-_-]Zz this is the attack that totally demolished porto the other day, this is the team with the talent of tomorrow, give it 5/6 years when maldini serghinio cafu and billy will be collectin their pensions this arsenal team shall be the strongest in europe Arsenal are struggling to be the best team in England let alone Europe. They had one good run in Europe last season after so many painful years. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Plus they cannot compete at a financial level with the cream of Europe (Real, Milan, Chelsea, etc.). They are heavily indebted because of their new stadiums and recently they made enormous losses. Their debt repayment structure (because of the Emirates stadium) makes it necessary for them to qualify for the Champions League otherwise they would have to sell their prized assets. Their wage structure is so stingy that the only player who makes Milan or Inter or Real level coin is Henry. Wenger recently groused that the reason they could not go for Trezeguet is because of his wages. Juve, even in Serie B, are paying Trez a tremendous amount of money that Arsenal could not afford. Even at a revenue generating level Arsenal are behind Man U. Like I said in an earlier post...can Arsenal match this record: 2003- Winners 2004- Quarter-finals 2005- Final 2006- Semi-final (here they bettered us). No? Right then... P.S. Zlat and ZZZ are spot on with their posts. Forza Milan! Last edited by Hasan Rossonero; 29-09-2006 at 23:24. |
