what i'm worried about zlatanov... is does Milan really want them... or does Ajax prefer Inter's player exchange plus cash ahead of Milan's only cash... don't forget we lost Zambrotta despite him wantin' to come over... only for his club to refuse to do business with us...

In Zmbrotta's case it was Juve that spoiled the transfer ... here the situation is so dif that I find it dif to even draw parallels between the two:

1) Ajax has always gone for the money, it's cash that suits their interests as they don't need 30+ Inter outcasts when they can find a whole bunch of better, younger and heaper players in Holland ... players they would be able to develop and sell for a lot of money in 2-3 years. However, to get soem of these players, they will need money, like in Huntelaar's case

2) they owe us for Stam, at least that's what the situation seems to be like

3) neither the players nor the club have any reason to favor Inter over Milan, actually quite the opposite ... and we've always had great relations with the ducth club

Only problem as I see it is whether we really want these players. IMO, Sneijder looks like the more probably target as we would need reinfocements in midfield next year for sure, while Huntelaar would depend on how our attack performs for the rest of the season and above all how Pippo plays and whether the club would find enough reason to have him as main striker for next year two given that he is getting old and will be 34 next year.

i understand what you are sayin'... but i am havin' doubts now... especially after our latest transfer campaign...

our latest transfer campaign took place in "extreme" circumstances to say the least as the club didn't know whether we would play CL football at all and how many pts we'd be penalized in A ... we couldn't afford to spend freely whithout being asured of how much money would come into the club.
I know it sound like every fan's worst nightmare but there is much more to governing a club than bringing in star names to make the fans happy

again i understand your point... as i have mentioned it before way back than... but it is not about gettin' star names for me... rather about gettin' adequate replacements as well as freshenin' up things...

I see your point and I meant more or less that same thing by saing "star names".
See, a player doesn't have to be a star of the calibre of Tevez, Dinho, Gerrard, etc in order to cost us a good deal of money. A very good player, without being a superstar, still costs money and we are not talking 1-2 mil but 10+ or more like 15+ mil ... and Isay "very good" players because let's be honest, the fans would find tragedy in Milan getting players below that level or at least not-established players, which is exactly what Milan did - we did refresh the the squad with players like Gorky, Bonera, RO, Brocchi (a no name player but a very good one indeed) and see what happened - our transfer campaign was mocked at by our own fans before the season even started.

True, we could have gotten another Cafu-type RB but again, due to calciopolli, we had our backs against the wall and once we new our fate, there was little to no time to react and get a good player, not just someone who would increase the count of players in the team - for Oddo, Lazio was asking just too much, for players like Miguel and Alvez it would take lots of time and negotiations to make these deals happen. All in all, in such a short period of time, the most we would have ended up doing is sign some average palyer would wouldn't have added anything to the team.

Plus, let's not forget - we always had the luxury of being able to buy players in the winter period should that need arise and the right players become available.

Not exactly the perfect plan for how a transfer campaign should be carried out but the circumstances weren't ideal either.

Gourcuff was pursued since before the scandal broke up... only Bonera & Oliveira came after... Brocchi simply returned to Milan...
