Xu... know what??? Ok... You're right. In letting the pressure guage down. I may have been too harsh on them. I take the time now and apologise for my harshness to mrki, warp05, and the newbie Milan_2007. I'll apologise for chastising warp05 just seconds ago. I was harsh and be it to make it right, I again personally apologise sincerely. If they were bringin a little sunshine to this horrific event, I'll appreciate it in the context you have explain in your self philosophy of "looking at things on the bright side".
Oh my... you're not even a mod and you've moderated this out dude! BRAVO!

now it's getting out of control and getting nowhere. that's not necessary for this thread. and let's all calm down.

I, for one, will not post in this thread anymore, under this atmosphere.

P.S. If I haven't done so,
RIP Raciti

ACMILAN1983 will become famous soon enough
Ok, enough now in this thread, we've completely lost sight in what this topic is about.

Kui, though I understand your frustrations, you must remember they aren't mocking the events of last night, though they're comments may lack elegance and sensitivity with regards to the matter.

However, at the same time, we shouldn't lambast their right to speak their mind should they desire, we have to accept different people share different beliefs on how to treat the matter.

There's nothing particularly worth saying about these comments. They may have been in slightly bad taste, but they definately aren't worth getting too upset over. I believe we still have a far more important matter of what happened yesterday and the ramifications it has to Italian football to discuss.

I hope that they won't suspend the league for too long. Because this suspension itself will not solve anything. The figc just has to take action. They have to suspend the hotheads, the people who don't come to football for football but for fighting. They can say we are going to do this and we are going to improve the safety and this are the new laws. But they will only see if these new laws and safety improvements work if the league continues.

Platini stands by Italian Federation

Quote:
New UEFA President Michel Platini has assured he’ll work alongside the FIGC to solve the growing problems of fan violence.

“First of all I make my personal condolences to the family of Chief Inspector Filippo Raciti, who lost his life last night,” said Platini.

“Violence is totally unacceptable and has no right to exist within the football world. We condemn it, will not accept it and intend to tear it out of the sport.

"With this also in mind, we offer our full support to the actions taken by FIGC Extraordinary Commissioner Luca Pancalli, who suspended all the national Championships and the international games.”

Pancalli ordered the “indefinite” suspension as a result of last night’s rioting the marred Palermo’s 2-1 win in Catania.

It’s feared this will put a large dent in Italy’s hopes of hosting the Euro 2012 tournament, where they are short listed along with Croatia-Hungary and Poland-Ukraine.

“It’s too early to say. But if they did take Euro 2012 away from us, it would be deserved,” said Pancalli when asked about the bid.

However, Platini’s statement took the specific pressure off the Azzurri ahead of the April 18 deadline for choosing the hosts.

“The death of a Paris Saint-Germain fan, the riots caused by Feyenoord supporters in Nancy, these all raise our concerns over the violence that is once again insinuating itself in football,” continued the new UEFA President.

“We must work together with the football authorities and Italian Government to support this sport and find a solution to this spiral of violence that is contaminating Europe.”

I am really happy that Uefa has supported Calcio in this time of despair. Frankly speaking I wasn't expecting this gesture. I thought they would straight away start issuing threats. I am not sure what would have had happened if Johansson was the the Uefa president.

About comparing this incident with the Heysel and Hillsborough:

Only one person died because of this incident so it wasn't as grave as the two in England. Also, that time (late 80s) the dominance of UCL on world sports wasn't as much as it is now. Banning all Italian teams from European competiton would be catastrophical for the competition's competitiveness.

Mrs. Thatcher's method of nabbing down hooligans was effective but you can't completely say that they have completely vanished from England. They are controlled because of effective measures such identifying the audiences, creating a black list of people with a record of crimes, CCTV in the stadium and limiting on what is supposed to be brought to the stadiums (no flamable stuff, etc.). If we bring about these measures then there will be a fall in such incidents.

This is really terrible what happened in Italy sometimes i really can't understand human stupidity, the FIGC has to employ more drastic measures against hooligans.

I think that the suspension of whole season won't solve anything and banning Italian teams from european cups will be really bad for Italian football, but something has to be done and i think the FIGC will take the right decision and not suspend the whole season.

R.I.P Filippo Raciti and condolences to his family

Italian Calcio is unhealthy to say the least. If FIGC doesn't take serious step and simply let it roll out of control, I am afraid that a Europe-wide ban is not totally out of the picture in a near future day.

As a selfish football fan myself, I don't want to see the rest of this season cancelled, and I honestly don't see it happen either. But I am afraid that the disease is so grave, that it calls for very strong medicine! I don't think one or two weeks' suspension would have solved anything. If not for AC Milan, I would have stopped watching Italian calcio already. It is dark, gross and disgusting.

the latest I read on calciomercato and tgcom about this issue is that the FIGC is leaning towards stopping the Serie A and B for two rounds - this and the one scheduled for next weekend, I guess - and then resuming the games at closed doors thus eliminating the fans from the stadia.
I guess the games that were scheduled for this and next weekend will be played at the end of the season.
