Rather than looking elsewhere and since I don't know who Milan are considering bringin in to fill the defence (only Zlat knows how well Berlu's mind works)...I'd like to nominate Bonera to fill in the CB role. He has been tremendous for us this season in the absence of Nesta, and he has worked well with Maldini in the CL and has gained some experience on the big stage. I predict Carlito will choose Kaladze over Bonera and he has...but Daniele is where our future lies IMHO. He has the making to become a fantastic CB.

I think that the team should stick to italian central defender couse as it is proven is the most reliable deffence. Honestly i tnik zambrota and barzagli would add the deapth neaded to the squad diffence. And olso they will work well whit now the best diffenders as Nesta and Kaladze. If they chase a brazilian the should try to sign Lucio couse he is a perfectionist in a way.

There is a name that fits the bill really well and will be available on a Bosman free next yr. Unfortunately his heart is set on joining our evil cousins who will never win a CL again (so sad I can't write "who never win anything" for a few more years) - Cristian Chivu

The person who replace Maldini is already playing for Milan, he is Nesta. I mean Nesta will have at least 4-5 more Madlini's yrs in him.
Then after that, Bonera will be there, and he must have another 7-8 more Maldini's yrs in him after the 4-5 of Nesta. So that will put it at 12-13 Maldini's yrs later, which by that time, Christian should be ready to play for Milan.

he is a fantastic defender,most probably will be signed by Milan to replace Capitan next year.

MExes is good and could be great but he is no where near the status of Maldini.
Nesta and Cannavaro are close and Terry and Chivu has potential, beside them I could not think of anyone that has remotely any chance right now to be close to the status of Maldini.

agreed,Noone can replace Maldini and however Mexes and Nesta would be fantastic central duo in my opinion.

Well, I think Terry is good and probably the best under 26 defenders at the moment.
