EVERYONE has the feeling. From the Palmerlo president, to us fans, and even Galliani himslef....

If he doesn't pick it up quick, it will be the end of him. At 27, he won't have too many chances. I also have my doubts about Thiago Silva, but then again, he is still 25....

I wouldn't worry too much about what said this clown from Palermo as he hates Milan and more especially Galliani and Berlusconi (why, I don't know).

Saying he has doubts for the player is just a way to push us to have more doubts about him (each small mistake from Onyewu could become tragedy), because if he has doubts, why trying to buy him ? And more importantly, why trying to buy him to replace his former CB starter ?

The guy didn't want to sell Kjaer, as a matter, he was hijacked in a transfer he thought would be completed quickly. He just forgot we wanted a CB (as we asked for Kjaer), so now he will have to splash money. Well done Galliani !!

Report: Oguchi Onyewu Set For Whistle-Stop Milan Visit
The defender is expected to undergo a medical next week but will only join the squad during their US tour.
9 Jul 2009 09:05:14

Milan completed the signing of USA international centre-back Oguchi Onyewu this week on a free transfer from Belgian club Standard Liege.

La Gazzetta dello Sport today reports that the 27-year-old will fly to Italy’s fashion capital at the start of next week to undergo a routine medical with the Rossoneri before finalising his transfer.

Onyewu will be shown around the Milanello facilities and will get to know his new team-mates, but will only stay in Italy for a couple of days before resuming his holidays.

The powerful central defender was in action with the USA national team until June 28, when the Yanks lost 3-2 to Brazil in the final of the Confederations Cup.

Therefore, he will be granted a few extra days of rest and will probably team up with the rest of the squad in Atlanta on July 21.

Milan will face Club America in the World Football Challenge the following day and Onyewu could make his debut against Chelsea on July 24 in Baltimore, or in the first derby of the season against Inter in Boston on July 26.

Vince Masiello, Goal.com

If I was him, I would stay and start trainign with your teammates. if he has any hopes of doing well, he must accustom himself to the team's tactics and the way his team-mates function.... Every moment is crucial

It might be necessary as he might need a rest after the Confed Cup. Physically, it might be in his best interest to take a break.

Agreed. I would much rather he get some rest and come in fresh. A few days of training with teammates, more or less, aren't going to make any difference in the long run. But if he doesn't have a chance to rejuvenate, he could be sluggish for quite some time.

It would be great if he could get a few minutes in Baltimore.

Would still start nesta and Silva, and then sub him on. ALso like to see Abbiatti start as well as Fabiano! (fingers crossed)

Also crucial to get Rino a game in the midfield, subbing him off later for Flamini. Crucial for Ambroisini to start, not because he deserves it (he will struggle to be a starter), but to solidify his place as captain. If Ambroisini starts in our midfield during the season just bcs he is captain, then he will damage the team. Flamini is better, and it just depends if Gatusso can get back to his normal level.

As a starter, Gooch is still an unknown quantity, but if we can get a player like this as a substitute, then really this is a very good signing.

You want a first-team player who you kow can execute the job when needed. Onyewu is still vastly unknown, so for me, he remains on the bench....

I am not sure why all the negative reaction against this signing. There is no way Oneywu will be our starter (unless miracle happens). As a bench player, he is definitely stronger than Senderos. I remembered Senderos's heading was not as well as I expected. Since Jaap Stam, I don't recall any defender in Milan has that physical size and strength. By saying this, I don't mean he is at the same level as Jaap.

P.S. Just like to clarify my dislike against the US National Team. I think Oneywu would be one of the very few US players I can accept in Milan.

This is an insignificant signing to me (doesn't mean I am negative, just NEUTRAL). Their is little chance that Onyewu will be the man to seal our defense, and their is also little risk involved bcs of his free status.

Therfore, so far on the face of it, this transfer means nothing. However, if things go our way, the benefits could be huge. If it doesn't then we haven't lost much, unless Berlu doesn't invest in anymore defenders....

We are not upset with Onyewu, more like nervous over the uncertainty whether Galliani is going to use Onyewu as a perfect excuse to stop buying. I don't mind Onyewu, as a matter of fact, having Onyewu is already better than having nobody at all. But as a spoiled Milan fan, we always dream of having Nestas and Maldinis. Knowing Galliani, having Onyewu is pretty much saying goodbye to a new Nesta or Maldini this summer.

Yeah exactly, which is why I think we will suffer.... It is enough years in a row now that we have had uncertainty over our defense. I would still like to believe in Onyewu though!

He is now listed in the top 20 transfers so far on Goal.com

Goal.com Poll Results: Fans Favour AC Milan's Oguchi Onyewu Signing
The readers have spoken, and they judge the American to be a canny acquisition...
10 Jul 2009 21:33:59

AC Milan's signing of former Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu has met with the approval of Goal.com International's readers.

The USA international, who had a positive tournament at the recent Confederations Cup, arrived on a free transfer as the Rossoneri side's first summer acquisition following the departure of Kaka.

But Onyewu's coming as a 'freebie' has not dented his reputation one bit as an overwhelming majority back him to succeed at San Siro.

The full results are given below. Be sure to check the foot of the main page of Goal.com International for a new poll each time you visit!

Goal.com Poll
Is Oguchi Onyewu A Good Signing For AC Milan?

Yes 74.42%
No 25.58%

What worries me is that when anaonymous players give us joy, thn we have little to expect in big signings for the future. Still, stars don't start off in bid clubs, and it will be up to our scouts to be at the top of their game if we are to stay awwy from Europe's big names for the while....
