@Deb: I am not too sure; from a psychological point of view, ultimatums, competitions, deadline, surveillance etc. usually don't turn out to be effective and tend to reduce motivation. Rather, autonomous-supportive enviornment will promote motivation in general. This have been cited for many times in the psychology literature, and that's why I believe that Milan's management is doing a great job overall. Afterall, where on earth will you find a team that signs a contract with a player who was out because of injury for two years?

It’s well known the ex-Parma striker starts seasons relatively slowly, but this term has been abysmal even by his standards. Not only is he a ghost wandering around aimlessly, he also managed to repeatedly get in the way of teammate Pippo Inzaghi during the 2-0 defeat to Palermo. Carlo Ancelotti is going to have to choose between them and right now Gila’s heading for the bench, although with his current form he’d probably miss and land on the floor.

He ran Milan ragged at the San Siro and made Alessandro Nesta look a fool, which is no simple task. The Socceroos star was always alert, taking advantage of every defensive error to create the goals that put Palermo back on top of the table. So far he has definitely been the Sicilians’ best summer investment and, if he continues like this, could get himself a Scudetto medal.

He doesn't make Nesta look like a fool. Nesta made a fool of himself. Let's be honest; Nesta was just awful at the defense for a split of a second.

I would say Simplicio and Di Michele (if they bought him this summer, can't remember) are better investments for Palermo.

So what does Jeff have to say about the open goal Gila missed? Something I, YES, I would have scored if I were there. Wait, I can promise you my grandmother would have scored it 5 times out of 10.

I guess Jeff is going to say that the goal has moved downwards and the pitch had a bump exactly where the ball was when Gila shot.

A more worrying thing would be if he wasn't getting into these positions to have these chances!

He may not have scored tonight, but it's clear he works better when he has Oliveira with him compared to Inzaghi. He plays further up the pitch and makes better runs. He will score soon enough.

it is official... Gilardino is the best striker in the world... best at not scorin' goals... so what now? the midfield didn't do enough to supply him? or that he didn't have a real & proper opportunity? stop bein' in denial for a change...

Jim, I really hope he does, but EVEN if he does, that will not change the fact that he has not contributed anything to Milan so far this season.

my local bookies (illegal bettin' syndicate) has dropped the odds for Gilardino scorin'... before this match... it was at 1.17... now it is 1.04... meanin' for every $100 you bet... you only win $4... lolz...

It's not just Gilardino though..nobody can seem to score at the moment. Kaka missed chances. Borriello was... just unbelievable. Carlo will probably do like Mourinho and stick with Gila until he hits form again. He's the future..no point not playing him and getting him either further out of form. Inzaghi is nearing the end of his days. Before the start of next season..we'll need to have bought at least 1-2 strikers. Pacy support strikers..not out and out finishers.

yes... Kaka has missed chances... but it is also a fact that he has scored recently while the ugly truth about Gilardino is the fact he hasn't scored at all nor has he supplied the final pass to a goal... as for Borriello... at least he can claim he isn't match sharp since he hasn't played much at all...

i think hes played the best he has so far this season, didnt fall over as much and playing with Oliveira helped him alot...

Mystik i wouldnt sell him, besides hes ownly 24, i would consider it if he was 34....

bench him until he proves himself comin' off from the bench... not rewardin' him for his poor performances & terrible misses by constantin' startin' him...

he should earn his way back into the first team with good performances or goals (if he performs poorly)... and he should do this only as a sub not a starter...

look how Capello has gotten the best out of Robinho lately?
