Official: Leandro Grimi signs for Milan

I usually have endless faith in our ability to see the potential behind new talent (we tracked Torres for years, Gourcuff looks like a great signing, and Kaka? well...) but this guy has an element of being a knee jerk signing.

Kaka when we got him had SEVERAL years in the first team in Brazil, he had debuted for the NATIONAL team and played for their respective youth teams.

Grimi is a far cry from that with no games with the national team and only one season in the top flight.

Yes, but when a club like Milan is willing to invest in a player like this, then he must be damn good. Milan knows the South American market very well, so I am confident that Grimi will become a good player for us.

Latest news is that he may not move before end of the season, because of problems with his EU Passport.
I believe he is leift back right? Meaning I cannot see him getting too many matches because Jankulovski is ahead of him.

He wasn't going to get much first team action anyway..but Janku will need a rest from time to time you know. Who else do we have ? Antonelli? Favalli?

And this based on what? On one signing (Kaka)? The rest of our south americans werent brought that young, they were already established.

And Grimi is a disaster waiting to happen, calling him the next Kaka even at his position is beyond laughable (with all due respect).

One question: Milan sees Grimi as a young player, with great potential. So why would they cancel his transfer even if he cant arrive now? What could happen in 6 months for not to sign this exciting prospect (LOL)?

Also, who says Milan sees him as the next Maldini? Isn't it possible that Milan is just trying to come up with a temporary solution for LB, who has two major pluses - he's cheap and he's available. Plus, a player as young as him, could always be used as a make-weight in future deals (like Donati, Dalla Bona, etc).

Milan needs a LB for the rest of the season and that's as clear as a sunny day.
With Sergio injured most probably for the rest of the season and Favalli being pretty much constantly injured, Janku is the only alternative we have on the left apart from semi-fit options like Maldini and Kaladze, who are needed in CD anyway.

Grimi not having this passport changes things a lot since he won't be available for the second half of the season, so we would have to find another player to relieve Janku at LB from time to time. If that were to happen, Grimi may be let go for now since we are hardly willing to make a collection of LBs just for the fun of it and watch the numbers grow.

Still, there is the possibility to leave Grimi to another Italian team and get him next year as a "communitario" player from them. These things however need time to be negotiated beforehand, as other teams have made their own transfer plans by now.

Of course, there is always the chance Milan could let Grimi stay at Racing for the rest of the season but again, we need a LB now and not 6 months from now.

He said that he wants to be the new Maldini... not anybody from Milan.

as mystik mentioned, he said it but in the sense that Maldini is his role model and would be a dream to play like him one day.

OK, let me rephrase that - who, other than a couple of fans here and there, said that Milan sees Grimi as a youngster with great potential or whatever it was that you assumed?

Grimi said his dream was to one day be as good as Maldini. I don't see anything wrong with that, it just means the guy is ambitious.

Personally I don't like to compare players, even if they play in the same position on the field they might have totally different characteristics.

this is something that has been mentioned a number of times in this thread.
get him now, loan him out and see what happens out of him. If he turns out to be an average player, given his young age, he could well be used as a make-weight in deals for other players.

ALso we do need a LB - a reliever for Janku - and we need him right now for the rest of the season. For that reason he has to be cheap and available, which pretty much excludes all very good or even just good players out there.
To put it in another way, Grimi may very well be seen by Milan as a quick, temporary fix for a LB sub. After that, if he turns out to be something worth keeping, Milan will keep him, if not - we'll have ourselves another Coloccini, Dalla Bona, Donati, etc i.e. we'll just use him as part of another transfer. Either way, it's a win-win situation for us also because the bringing up of a Donati or a Dalla Bona, over the years, costs a lot more than 1.8 mil to a club like Milan.

Furthermore, no one from Milan has said that they are buying him to replace Maldini or Serginho at LB and that he will be in Milan's first team for the next 10-15 years.

for further clarification on these possibilities, you may also wanna reread what "kris" posted earlier in this same thread, although the above should be just about enough.

As you see, if you spend a little more time thinking of possible reasons/explanations and less time on dissing and bashing a player you yourself have hardly seen play or laughing at how stupid Milan management is, a lot of different ideas and options would open up before you.

Peace and have more faith in what Milan are doing.
