You tend to forget that Milan brings the game of football to a completely different level than Arsenal - not just flair but also stability and strong will to impose your game on the opposition. Milan can win games even when they seamingly do not have that much ball possession. This is something Arsenal has been lacking this season, and not only. Furthermore, Milan tends to be on top of their game against serious opposition, which ManU undoubtedly is.
My prediction for the encounter i.e. both games overall is that ManU will be given a lesson in how one team can combine flair with "grinta," as our italian friends call it, and will be totally uncapable of playing their game. While both teams have great attacking departments, games like this one are won in midfield and this is where Milan's superiority will be felt the strongest. As far as defense is concerned, I doubt that even ManU fans will disagree that Milan's rearguard is on top.

Top post, well done.

You just gathered all the thoughts in my mind and put it in one excellent post.

The game WILL be played in midfield, seeing as Maldini will be up againts Ronaldo and Giggs up againts Gattuso, its gonna be a hell of a battle.

I just wonder how Man Utd are gonna handle Seedorf, Pirlo and Kaká.

Just got the ticket for the Milan -United game, so my loudness will be surely put at the service of the team for that night, and (as Dragana and Lore can confirm) we are very loud (central London's walls can tell you a couple of things )

Btw i can't attend the Manchester match cause i have not enough moneys and i'm already saving for the Final in Turkey Call me fool, but i must BELIEVE we get through and save in advance, cause being student i have to save since NOW. and if i spend them now, i will eventually watch my friends going and i will stay home in that case.

Cheers

Btw, great goals by Rooney the last weekend, it was quality finishing indeed.

I've lost count of the number of times i've heard that sort of thing over the years

Utd too are well set to trouble teams in this way, 3 flair players (Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney) backed up by midfielders (Scholes, Keane, Fletcher) who can all control the tempo of a match. I doubt Utd will try their intensity tactics against Milan but they will certainly have the option if neccesary

Milan have a solid midfield but lack width. I've said before that width will be important as centrally the game could quite easily be a stalemate.

the scary thing is he seems likely to do that every game I knew he was a good player when we signed him but i didnt quite realise how special he could be

Maybe because it is true?! Just a guess, anyway.

The only player from ManU's midfield that worries me is Scholes for Keano, although being so experienced, is getting a bit too old for games at this level and I doubt he would be able to keep up with the high tempo for the entire duration of the game. Ronaldo and Giggs, on the other hand, will be kept under scrutiny and won't be given enough space to operate as they are used to doing in England, especially for the game in Manchester.

As for Rooney he is a very very good player but the only defence of real quality he played against in the Premiership is that of Chelsea and I don't remember him doing much in those games. Scoring a ton of goals against teams such as Man City and Fulham doesn't mean much when it comes to playing teams like Juve, Milan, Chelsea, etc.

My point was, before every game Utd play against Italian sides i had heard that they were too classy or their defenses will be too good. But when you look at it Utds record against Italian teams isnt too bad

Did you not see the Utd - Arsenal match?
I havent seen any game that matched the tempo of that this season and even though Utd had 10 men for the last half hour Keane and Scholes were still in charge of the midfield. If they stay clear of injuries over the next few weeks they will have no problems at all.

thats because Utd played Chelsea in September and Rooney was kept out tghrough injury unitl mid October the game at Old Trafford is still to be played though.....

the pace of italian football is slower than in england this will suit united's midfield.
how many times has giggs used his pace in these situations to destroy teams?
and you all saw what rooney did to slow paced international sides in euro 2004.
we have nothing to fear from milan it should be a cracker of a tie. i've got my tickets for the game in milan, hope to see some of you boys over there.

when he was appointed as Chelsea mngr, Mourinho talked about the difference between English and Italian/European continental football. I suggest you find that interview and read it carefully. He says some very true things about English football - pace is not always a good thing if it is not coupled with some tactical awareness. In that interview, Jose said that he would try teaching his team to play with their heads and not just run as "headless chickens" all over the field. Guess who he was referring to by saying that?
It was a great interview and I highly recommend it to anyone who still thinks that running pointlessly around after you have lost the ball yet again is a plus in modern football. The English League may be very attractive for the high pace of most games however players often show lack of basic tactical knowledge - this was the point Jose was trying to make in a very polite way - and given what he has done with Porto and now Chelsea, I would listen to him a bit more carefully before rendering his words snobbish.
And trust me Switzerland is hardly a measure for the abilities of Rooney and company.
Trust me brother, you have a lot of reasons to fear from Milan for they are not a typical Italian team like Juve for example and I have a fealing that Carrol will be more than willing to agree with this, after the game.

so how has mourinho got chelsea to the top of the league???not by playing continental football i can assure you!!!!! man u play at pace because when you have 4/5 of the fastest players in europe, how else would you play the game? ferguson knows his tactical game and will play milan at the pace he thinks is needed that,s why milan should be very wary
