Lugano, Barzagli, Heitinga, Kompany, plenty of fine options.

And if Gourcuff can play at Seedorf's position, that is really great, 'cause the dutchman is not very playing well lately, in fact he didn't manage to go to WC even.
There is no point in buying Riquelme or Aimar to sit on the bench.

Regarding Seedorf, he actually had a good 2005/06. Probably the most stable of the midfield trio (regarding form).
(Don't get me started on the last few seasons before this one though )

Out of all them i'd only take Barzagli. Lugano and Heitinga i don't think are good enough and Kompany has moved to a German club (but i don't remember which one).

Why not play Kaká with Riquelme or Aimar? I guess it will be wonderful!

Another possibility is to bring Sneijder, using Gourcuff as Rui's replacement.

I think Kompany was either very close to joining or he actually joined Hamburger as they sold Van Buyten to bayern, I believe.
As for Barzagli, I read that Cezare maldini watched him for quite some time before he decided that Barzagli, while a good defender, was simply not good enough for Milan as a heir to Nesta.
I personally would like to see us keep a closer eye on Lugano as he was voted second best SA player a year or so ago, after tevez. There must have been a good reason for that.

provided that Gurcouf is indeed loaned out or turns out to be nothing special, I would love to see a second quality PM in Milan as Kaka is used way too much throughout a whole season. The guy needs a lot more rest than he's been getting over the past 2-3 years and it would be nice to see another quality playmaker, someone who carlo would feel comfortable playing, take some of the load from kaka's shoulders. That way, Carlo won't have to play Kaka when he is tired or not at his best, and also we won't be so frightened what's gonna happen if kaka gets injured ...
But, in all honesty, I wouldn't expect us go for someone like Riquelme as he would be ay too expensive for a player who would probably "relieve" kaka rather than start every single game for us. Also, I doubt the player himself would agree to come to Milan without certain guarantees on our side.
Rosicky looked like the perfect solution but he's gone now, so maybe we could look at Fiore or lets first see what this Gourcuff is all about.

the times i've seen Lugano i've never seen anything overly impressive about him. It's a shame C. Maldini said that about Barzagli, he could be wrong though.

French teenage midfielder Yohann Gourcuff will join AC Milan from Stade Rennes, the Ligue 1 club confirmed on Wednesday. While Rennes did not publish terms of the transfer, sources tell eurosport.fr that the 19-year old would be at Milan until June 2011.

Gourcuff - who still had a year to run on his contract - had a 3-million euro opt-out clause.

A French under-21 international, the gifted Gourcuff was being chased by several European clubs.

I agree about Lugano. I have watched him in several games without being extremely impressed by him. But you know, if someone was watching Nesta in the games around the Chievo-Milan game of last season, they would have probably wondered how that guy could be considered the best CD in the world.
That's why I think we shouldn't be too quick to write off Lugano so easily.
As for Barzagli, Milan can watch him week in week out in Serie A and I sort of agree with C Maldini - good defender but not Milan quality, at least not up to par with what a starter in Milan's CD should be. Barzagli reminds me a lot of that guy Juve bought from Chievo 2-3 years back - he was touted as the next Nesta or whatever but see what happened, I can't even remeber his name now ... oh, yeah, Legrotaglie

Depeding on what happens with Gourcuff, if we still need a reliever for kaka, that guy form Ukranian NT Kalinichenko (plays for Spartak Moscow) really impressed in his only WC game so far - he did NOT play vs Spain. He would be worth keeping an eye on in the later stages of the WC.

But I'm thinking about players like Riquelme or Aimar not as 'reliever's' for Kaka, but in terms of a strong attacking midfield partnership with the brazilian, something like Riquelme - Kaká - X (I hope it will be Torres!) - Gilardino.

it was more of the case that he fell out with and didnt get on with Van Basten, nothing to do with his form...
