I would say £4 - £5 million tops. I'd throw Simic into the deal if it kept the price down. There's no way we should be spending that kind of money on him.

I am not sure how the question with home-grown and/or Italian players in the CL stands, but for this money we could get a younger and better player like Miguel or Alvez, and even reveilliere. Not to mention that Trabelsi is free and I think he still is without a club.
Grosso and Oddo are basically the same age, but I think Lazio is aware that Milan want Oddo for the CL because he is Italian and comes from the Milan youth academy, and they are simply trying to milk us as much as they can.

How many Italians do we need to have in the squad/1st team ? I know there were introductions made by UEFA that after a certain time x amount were needed and then 2-3 years later a larger amount was needed.

5 Italians that played in our youth team ? That's insane. I take it we have Costacurta & Maldini and then i'm stumped. Foggia would be another one, so loaning him out would be a mistake. Brocchi ? Ambrosini ?

This is a stupid rule in my opinion. A set amount of Italians in the squad is fair enough, but to say they HAVE to come from the youth team is idiotic.

From what I read on http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/UCL...Id=316773.html (there is a PDF file with the rgilations), there is no limitation on non-Italian players. here is how I understand the regulations:

every club can register no more than 25 players of whom 21 players are "free players" (no restiction on nationality or anything like that) while the remaining 4 players are what they call "locally-trained players", which are devided into "club-trained players" (players who have been registered for at least 3 years - consecutive or not - with Milan between the ages of 15-21) and "association-trained players" (players who have been registered for at least 3 years - consecutive or not - with a club from the same national association as Milan's i.e. players who have played/been registered with other Italian clubs for 3 years between the ages of 15-21).
So, what "locally-trained players" refers to is basically what we call players who are product of the youth academy. The thing is that we need only 2 such players - "club-trained players" - from Milan's youth academy, the other 2 can be "association-trained players" i.e. players, who come from the youth academies of any other Italian club, not just Milan's.
Also, the nationality of these 4 "locally-trained players" is irrelevant i.e. it's not necessary that they are italian nationals.
I couldn't find any info on a possible limitation of the number of non-italian nationals (foreign players), so I believe we can field as many foreigners as we wish.
So, with Maldini and Ambro alone we would fill the "club-trained players" requirement, while with any of the other Italian players, we would fill the "association-trained players" requirement as long they were registered with an Italian club for 3 years - consecutive or not - between the ages of 15-21, which should be the case for all of them - Pirlo, Gattuso, Foggia, Coppolla, Pippo, Gila, Brocchi etc, etc.

Corinthians: Tevez Admits He Could Be Leaving

With Corinthians (20th – 10) beached at the very bottom of the Brazilian first division, Carlitos Tevez has confirmed the Timão faithful’s worst fears and signalled that he may be on the verge of a move away from the Parque São Jorge in the near future.

Despite having met with the huge organised supporters’ group Gaviões da Fiel (Hawks of the Faithful), ‘El Apache’ Tevez has hinted that he may be forced into leaving Corinthians for family motives, although added that he wants to stay and help refloat Corinthians to the top of the table.

“I was really annoyed on Saturday [after the record-breaking seventh defeat in a row], they [angry fans] surrounded my car and I had my daughter [Florência] and my wife [Vanesa] inside. That’s when I thought that I’ll leave Corinthians, and it’s going to be difficult to stay here.”

“They’re [wife and daughter] really scared and these sort of things aren’t easy to just forget”, said the number 10 who specifically called the press conference to announce his intention to leave Corinthians, although he didn’t give any ultimatum nor a specific date.

Seeing the impact of his words and the amount of raised eyebrows amongst the gathered reporters, Tevez mellowed his irritation. “I want to stay, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve also got a responsibility to listen to my family. Actually I think I could stay as I’m the head of the family” he added, turning raised eyebrows into perplexed, furrowed brows.

The Argentine’s current Corinthians contract expires in December, although the MSI backers of the Parque São Jorge team have an option to extend the deal for another three years if Tevez agrees. On Staurday the angry player made a point of saying that he wasn’t short of offers to play in Europe.

“They’re the teams that have already come up in the papers. Chelsea, Sevilla, Manchester and Inter [Milan]”, said the player who immediately denied even the slimmest possibility of going to a rival club. “Palmeiras, River [Plate] and São Paulo; no way. Any other team in the world except those three. I’d prefer to retire than play

So here we are.... maybe we can go for him? He played wonderfull at the WC, his technique is perfect, he can create and would combine well with Kaka', like Sheva did. But I havent seen anything connecting him with us. Carlo and Galliani decided to go for Ibra, he wants Juve exit, so I believe HE will be rossonero.

Well, that clears that up Zlat

I would hope our management team are all over this Tevez situation with Leonardo leading the way. His contract runs out in December, he doesn't have to agree to a new one forcing Corinthians to sell and at a lower price. The teams he mentions all have an Argentinian connection, so that may work against us, but i don't think it would be much of a setback. We should act now, even if it means not getting him until January.

Buy Suazo now for a cheap-ish (compared to others) amount and agree a deal with Corinthians to buy Tevez in January. That leaves Tevez the rest of the year to fight it out for his club to get them back near the top.

THe issue here, though, is not whether the MIlan management will go for ANY player. It's about whether MIlan will play in the all-but-about-luck Champion League.

Granted Jeff, but if we don't get in does that mean we have to settle for sub par players for next season?

Which would really be a waste of money wouldn't it.

OH of course, but the problem is that you don't want to spend the $$$ randomly on a famous player who can't deliver. In that sense, we buy the player just for the sake of buying, not for the team.

BUt of course, we need 1 more striker. And if we don't (REALLY), perhaps we'll see a year of Christmas tree formation?

I wouldn't mind the christmas tree formation. Having two of Kaka, Foggia & Gorky behind Gilardino would be nice to see. Especially if we got Diarra to go along with Pirlo & Gattuso as the midfield 3.

I doubt Silvio would approve though.

If we do somehow get Diarra, I cant see him sit on the bench. And I cant also see Pirlo or Gattuso on the bench, so X-mas tree formation could be a solution.
