I agree completely with you Brasiliero about the financial/investment side of things for these two players. If (and it's a big if) those figures i quoted are accurate, which i doubt, but say they are, that would be 14.5 million euros. That's about as much as Atletico Madrid still owe us! We could get them both without actually spending any money.

Lucas sounds like an exciting player. Is he tall? Quick? Good shot on him?
Jim, some reliable sites here said that Fluminese ask 6.5 millions(6 for the club, and half for the kid) for Marcelo. Fluminese are desesperate for money!! Gremio is in a better financial situation, and gave A. Madrid Lucas for just 8 millions...but A. Madrid did not pay the first parcel, and Gremio said that is open to negociate w/ another team, but will ask for more( the famous Seleção valuation). Fluminense also said that the preference letter that they had given to R. Madrid is not more valid...and in Brazil(an Spain) some reliable pappers are saying the Monchi(Sevilla manager and head scout) is moving mountains to contract Marcelo, because it needs the approval of the Sevilla board, for the release of the money. Even w/ Sevilla having 3 LB, they are saying that Monchi believe that Marcelo will be the new Daniel Alves(in LB) for Sevilla...
Regarding Lucas: 1,79m and 74 kg...the guy is a litlle skkiny, but is very strong(and physical) in defence, very accurate in pass, and w/ a very good shot from distance. In the begining of Brazilian championship, the guy was being booking to much because he was being very aggressive. But Lucas find a balance, and is being less booked since...The tipical "all the field" mid.

Sounds like we will miss out on both of these players

Higuain is being lined up for a move to France too. While i don't want us to just buy prospects, it would be nice if we were actively seeking these players out.

yes Kash ... and as if my questions were answered, Calciomercato has not 1 but 2 articles about Braida being in South America looking at talents They took these from ControCampo? and Gazetta dello Sport.

Both articles talk about Braida looking at Evaldo and Lucas of Gremio during the match against Internacional and looking at Marcelo of Fluminense and Fabao of Sao Paulo. It then speaks of Braida looking at Gago & Higuain.

That's a start at least, lets hope it doesn't descend into another Sobis situation "Yeah we'll buy you ... ummm actually, nah ... we don't want you now".

Lucas, Marcelo, Gago & Higuain please

Braida goes SHOPPING!

Milan search for new Kaka

Milan general manager Ariedo Brieda will travel to South America in the hope of unearthing another young starlet. The Rossoneri already have Brazilians Kaka, Ricardo Oliveira, Dida, Cafu and Serginho on their books and club chief Adriano Galliani confirmed they were looking for more.

"Ariedo will go to South America for around 15 to 20 days," said Galliani.

"He has already made some great finds, like he did with Kaka. Appropriate talents are to be economically affordable.

"Signings like Ronaldinho are possible when the player is still at Gremio or Paris-Saint Germain.

"But when he is at a club like Barcelona, you can't get him unless you pay 60 or 70 million euros [£40-46 million]"

Gremio midfielder Lucas Pezzini is reportedly on Milan's radar, with Inter and Juventus also interested.

The 19-year-old has an EU passport courtesy of his Italian origins, and had been compared with holding players such as Emerson and Dunga.

Braida was yesterday in Gremio x Internacional game(in prtuguese):
http://globoesporte.globo.com/ESP/No...8-4284,00.html
This site(globo.com) is reliable...and are saying that Braida is here looking 4 players(Lucas, Evaldo, Fabão and Marcelo).
Lucas(MD) and Marcelo(LB)have game to be in Milan. This Evaldo guy(CB), I really don´t know. Fabão(CB) is a physical specimen, but isn´t Milan material.
The good news in Marcelo case is that the kid had a drop in form. Fluminese team is a mess, and Marcelo that was one of the 3 bright spots of the team(Arouca and Thiago Silva are the others) is playing bad right now. So, teams that are public after him(like Lyon and R. Madrid) are offering less money, as you can see in this news(in portuguese):

well, brasileiro, with Marcelo playing bad other teams may be offering less money but at the same time Braida won't be exactly impressed by what he's seeing. Unless of course Milan, through leonardo, have been tracking him for some time.
But let's wait and see - these 4 are just a fraction of the names that will be linked to Milan in the days till the end of February

Hmm i dont understand why they are looking for 'phenomenal' midfielders. I know thats not what they said exactly but the way Galliani said he is find new players, just like Kaka makes me think that.

We need defenders, wing-backs, central midfielders, and a striker. I think they are just saying that so make the fans think they are actually doing something so we keep quiet.

Agree...when big teams are in trouble, the "being linked" starts.
zlatanov, I believe(hope) that unlike teams like Real Madrid(Baldini is trying to fix this), our team has a very good scout net, and several reports about players. I said this because when we brought Kaká, the guy was in bad form in São Paulo team(to be fair, 1 year later Kaká was MVP of Brasileirão), and this did not hinder the negotiation.
I understand your point, but I really doubt that teams famous for to find young pearls like Lyon or Sevilla will be deceived by some bad games. Marcelo is shining since South American U-17, U-17 WC, in 3/4 of Brasileirão, and was very good also in Brazil NT. So, they are taking advantage of Marcelo bad form, to pay less(or not). It´s also public and well-known that Fluminese is deseperate for money(poor team)...
BTW, Braida still did not see Marcelo to play. Braida will be in the next Fluminense game...
Leonardo also played in Marcelo position and is very close to Dunga and Jorginho(asistant coach of Brazil), so Leo may has some insiders about Marcelo...who knows????

Here in Brazil we are linked w/ 1 LB/WB in Marcelo and a CM in Lucas...
BTW, after Brazil, Braida will go to Argentine.

Braida's Travel To Brazil and Argentina

www.channel4.com.

In the meantime, Milan transfer guru Ariedo Braida will travel to Brazil and Argentina this week as he searches for possible transfer targets, according to Vice-President Adriano Galliani.

“Ariedo will stay in South America for 15 or 20 days,” said Galliani. “He has already eyed some interesting players, just like he did in the past with Kaka.

“Signing talents like Ronaldinho is possible when they are still at Gremio or PSG, but if they move to larger clubs like Barcelona, you can't sign them for less than £40m.”

Milan have reportedly targeted Lucas Pezzini Leiva and Evaldo Silva Santos, both currently contracted with Gremio.

The 19-year-old Pezzini, who also has an Italian passport, is set to leave the Brazilian club in January and has also been eyed by Atletico Madrid, whereas Evaldo could move at the end of the season.
