It’s Milan or nothing, says Gilardino.

Alberto Gilardino says he will join no other club apart from Milan this summer - or remain at Parma until the end of his contract.

The player made the shock announcement in a statement this evening, after dismissing widespread speculation that his proposed transfer to the Rossoneri was now a done deal.

"I have a contract with Parma until June 2007 which I am ready to respect," said the Italian international.

"They will make the final decision but I have indicated from the very start that I want to join Milan, after taking into consideration the characteristics of the players they have there.

"Negotiations between the two clubs have dragged on and I, like everybody else, am waiting for news regarding my future.

"Parma have always maintained that they would satisfy my requests which today becomes explicit by excluding any other options which I considered until the end of my holiday.

"The alternative for me now is to stay at Parma until the natural conclusion of my contract. I have not signed for Milan."

Reports this morning claimed that a £20m deal had been agreed in principal, but Gilardino’s comments make that rumour highly unlikely.

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi and Parma transfer chief Oreste Cinquini also claimed today that nothing had been decided.

One of Gilardino’s agents, Francesco Romano, added that no progress had been made between the two clubs recently.

"I have nothing more to add to what Milan have already said – the clubs are still distant," Romano noted.

"Milan have said it and so has Cinquini. There have been no significant phone calls and nothing new to report over the last few days.

"Hopefully we can sit round a table from Monday onwards to start talks again. This is possible."

I guess in times like these, when we are beset with contradicting articles, the equanimity of Zlatanov comes in handy.

Remember he said this deal would be concluded Friday. And according to some reports it is, only the small details have to be ironed out.

So Zlatanov, will we hear on monday or tuesday that gila is ours? Or is this going to be another hot summer of trials and tribulations?

On the face of it Gila's latest comments seem to be a new twist... but are they??? He says he hasn't signed for Milan his agent says no deal is done... BUT it can't be anyway because it has to be approved by Parma's official administrators, which can't be done until Monday at the very very earliest... let's wait and see happens...

i read some users here said tomasson is loyal to milan etc etc.. dont be fooled!! i think he wants to stay at milan even though he is the last in the striker pecking order, is because he is not confident he will succeed at other clubs anyway and he can enjoy milan top class facilities, salaries and he got the best chance to win title for just sitting on the bench! i dont mean to be rude, i think he is a parasite to milan.. milan must push him away, if tomason played for other clubs with the performance like that, he would be sold a long time ago!

it is better to give some milan's junior striker a chance as a fifth striker than the blood sucking tomasson!

IMO, the deal is already done and dusted between the two clubs and all that's left is a green light from "ministero delle Attività Produttive" for the official announcement to be made. The only reason why we are still discussing this and why there are still doubts about this whole story are the words of 1 politician ... this should say it all, Galliani and Cinquini, who live to lie and lie to live, and a blood-sucking parasite, often refered to as "Gila's manager", who would sell his own mother for some more media coverage. As for Gila, he is just a voiceless pawn in this whole money-laundering romance between Milan and Parma officials, so Gila is the last person we are gonna hear from the words "Milan and Parma have reached an agreement" - first it will have to be announced officially and only then he could speak as a Milan player; before that he will just have to repeat what he has been instructed/advised to.
I personally expect all the signatures to be put on paper on Monday, and the official announcement to be made either on Tuesday or Thursday, when all players will be gathering at Milanello. My money is for Tuesday but I wouldn't be surprised if Galliani and Co like this game of "suspence" and put it off till two days later.
Hell, yeah, I am an optimist.

try to find an international striker who is willing to sit on the bench. it is a win win relationship for milan. also, milan own merchandising rights for JDT as well which brings in some cash.

merchandising rights of tomasson? i think he is not marketable and milan will not get much of that compared to his salary and performance! yes it is a win for tomasson but loss for milan!

damn this is a setback.. very bad news .. i used to be convinced that the deal had been struck, but now i think it''ll take at least a week more ..

although i have a Q for everyone here, does every1 here agree with me by saying that Gila is our major buy of the summer? or do you think there will be someone else? or was it Vieri :/ ?.. Im still hoping for a player, that was linked to us in a rumour, to join.. but seeing as we had a big fuss with Parma over 2 million euro, i doubt we will be able to afford a 35million transfer

Im feeling another "minor" buy after Gilardino.

Since rumours say Cicinho in January, I think we will get some kind of centre back. Now we only have Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Simic and Billy that can play there.

Are there any free defenders out there?

Kaladze can also play in the center(which is his best position) so we are pretty much covered at center back. The rumour is we are looking for a backup right back to Cafu. Massimo Oddo was the hot rumour a month ago. But I haven't heard anything about him since then. But we also have Lino Marzoratti who could play at right back so it's not urgent.
