Atletico Madrid, obviously confusing themselves with their city neighbours, are stating the following:

(from theguardian, Rumor Mill)

Quote:
If Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea, the Rowdies or Newcastle genuinely fancy their chances of prising Fernando Torres away from Atletico Madrid, they'll have to stump up £41.4m.
£41.4 Million? Are they completely crazy? There is no way, I mean no way he is worth more than $heva...they obviously slipped on a bar of soap, and hit their heads in the shower this morning!

I think the £41.4 million that Atletico want are based on the buy out clause figure on Torres' contract.

the buyout clause means next to nothing really, it's just a figure that means whoever matches it will buy the player there and then. The actual transfer figure will be much less.

If he goes that is.

maybe its bit like ebays reserve bid, clubs have to bid to a certain amount, then they will consider a sale... Ath Madrid owe us tho, hopefully this will help if any transfers take place..

I'm not saying we shouldn't spend a lot of money. That's fine. I'm just saying that Milan is smarter than clubs like Chelsea and doesn't need to get in bidding wars with the likes of them and Manchester United for a talented but still very raw player such as Torres when there are other options available. Tevez would cost just as much -- probably more than Torres -- but is more of a refined player. I'm not holding my breath for him either. But there are lots of other options out there. I'm saying we should be patient and not spend money foolishly. In fact, there's no reason we would absolutely have to find a permanent solution to replacing Sheva this year if the right one didn't come along at something in the ballpark of a reasonable price. There are options who could be brought in for a year or two as the long-term search continues. No matter who Milan buys this summer, they're not going to be able to fill Sheva's shoes completely and immediately. We could spend a billion euros and nothing would change that fact because there's nobody out there capable of doing it. So I would rather the club didn't panic and rush into a deal they might regret later.

GRE-NO-LI, I know that you watch ESPN-BRAZIL and ESPN INTERNATIONAL. So, tell me, besides the game against Barça (in Camp Nou), against who Torres had GREAT performances?? You can go at "AS" or "Marca" and make a search, and you will find zilions of articles crticizing Torres performances, and calling him a choker...Every year is the same history...
I agreed that Torres has talent, but he´s mentaly weak(to be fair, he´s young). But, if Torres can´t lead the team that he´s the HERO to a Champions League, just imagine the pressure of to be Sheva replacement??
I never agree w/ statments like "spanish don´t perform Serie A", "Serie A experience", but Torres isn´t worth of 40M...what big thing Torres made to be worth of 40M????
If we can purchase him for a reasonable price, it´s OK, but 40M?? No way!!!

Considering that Galliani & co. loves quick fix arrangments, we all already know how that 'saga' will end if follow that kind of politics: year after year with endless short-term solutions...

Usually Galliani says one thing, and does the opposite!!

Just wait and see what he is up to...

I agree with you Rick, no crazy bidding is needed, but we got to buy quality players to replace the the guys that has left Milan.

(Gazzetta dello Sport)

Roughly, it translates that Milan have a slight advantage to getting Maxi Rodriguez (in a bidding war between us, Inter and Roma) as Atletico owe us for Jose Mari and Javi Moreno.

Inter's approach has been to convince Maxi to join them as they already have other Argentines like Cambiasso.

Maxi is an interesting player who I saw a while back (I think at the last Olympics) and could be useful at Milan, but I want to watch him more closely atm to see whether he's a player we can really use effectively.

This is not fair. Remember Nesta&Gila? Authentic soap operas!
And about your question how we can replace Sheva without spending in Abramovic's way, we just need to go to Lyon and hire Nilmar.
He needs some muscles, but his pace and skills...
Younger, faster, cheaper and more talented than Torres. And he already knows the way Kaká play 'cos they played together in our U-23 team three years ago.
