It's very simple: 'cause we are AC MILAN, if you for instance had forgotten, we are NOT some abysmal punny side from Guatemalas's fourth division! And I know, I'll say that France and Italy and etc, etc, etc. played like that on the WC and 'yada yada yada', but I don't give a damn for that, 'cause that WC was surely one the of worst of all times, a veritable display of NIGHTMARISH football in terms of creativity and beauty. Football is not only some stone cold dead business, football is an art destined to enchant and entertain the fans!!!

GNL, see I agree with most of what you say. We are not some absmal punny side from Guatemalas's fourth division; and I'm not talking about this world cup.

4-3-2-1 has a unique characteristic that 4-3-1-2 doesn't give. First, you have 2 playermakers who can deliver the ball to the lone striker. That means, if Kaka` doesn't deliver, then the other AMC or MC will do. Second, you have a more protective side for Pirlo; this is because whoever is the second AMC will be able to cover more space in the midfield ( in terms of defense), and which allows more room for Pirlo.

Now of course there is drawback; 1 striker may not be enough to confuse a 4-man defense and whoever is the lone striker will be 'really' lonely.

But I don't see how you cmoe to the conclusino that playing with only 1 striker means that we are 'some absmal punny side'. Perhaps laughably, we played equally entertaining football when we played with a lone striker. I could remember the joy that 4-3-2-1 gave me in CL the year when we won the champion league. Inzaghi just kept scoring and scoring and scoring; he was a lone striker.

Of course, the drawback was in the serie A where we failed to score. WHy? Because most teams, when playing agianst Milan, were defending very deeply. So what's the potential conclusion? 4-3-2-1 maybe more suitable for big games in CL when both teams are willing to win (oh well, we can forget about Lyon who tried to kill games with a draw); when it comes to league game when our opponent is determined to get a 'draw' result, then 4-3-1-2 may perhaps work better.

GNL, what I have typed is perhaps not the most important. the most important thing is how you present your ideas with evidences and facts, or stats. There is really no point in arguing without even some evidence or backup. Looking at your post shows that all what you are saying are assumptions. Don't get me wrong; these assumptions may be right, but you provide no reason for them, and people just won't understand or believe in you.

"WC was surly one of the worst" --- why?
"some abysmal punny side" by playing 1 striker --- why?
"I don't give a damn for that" --- then what do you give a damn? buy some youngsters and don't care about whether the team wins? or your assumption that buying youngsters will automatically help you win?
"in terms of creativity and beauty" --- Italy has no creativity? What's Pirlo doing then? And where is the beautiful football that you are talkinga bout from Torres when he played against France or the 5-star brazilians?

GNL, did u know that even Barca plays with 2 attacking midfielders behind a lone striker? and do you think they play ugly football?

Everytime Milan played with an x-mas tree we had alot more creativity than we had with a 2man attack (mainly because of Rui Costa gettin space IMO). We do play entertaining football and everything but the only reason Berlusconi doesn't want it is because we play with 1 striker.

But now, looking at our formation as it is, it wil be a very very logicial solution to use the x-mas tree formation with Gila up front, because thats how he used to perform well before. I dont think he can play as well in the 2-man attack as we witnessed over the past season.

I think Tevez and Kaka behind Gilardino would be a great xmas tree gift

Especially with Gorky & Foggy as subs.

Foggia is Foggia, he doesnt need his name to be shortened to Foggy! :P.. Though im sure we wont use him in that position but instead on the flanks. Maybe when we use a 4-4-2.

Agree, Tevez is a player that can cope perfectly with Kaka', but Torres and Ibra can also create well. The thing about Ibrahimovic, and that is what Cappelo used oftenly, is that you can send any kind of long ball to him when you cant create well, and he can stop it, get rid of defender and pass it well. Its extremly usefull when you need an attacker that can hold on to the ball and play through pass to kaka or Gila.
Listen to this, its possible that Capello did something wrong and that Ibra doesnt like playing iin Juve. He had an interwiew on europsport I think, and he said that he has 6-7 pouns too much. If you look at his movements in the first Juve season and now, now can notice that he cant get rid of defenders by quick tricks any more. That is not becouse he cant dribble, but becouse his body cant move quickly enough. Milan needs to choose carefully, becouse there tiumes are delicate. My choice is Torres becouse he can play deep and score a lot, but he seems to be staying for this year. WE NEED SOMEONE, and Ibra could be the man. Remember, Pippo is 32, or 33, and next year we could see Ibra.Gila, Torres in Milan. Its quite possible.

my choice has to be Torres aswell, if we are going to have to spend 22 mill on ibra we might aswell keep the money and spend it on Torres who would be better long term.. Gazzetta today say that we want Torres over Ibra and crespo.. They also say a deal could be struck for Suazo... Borriello + Amoruso + cash...

I prefer Ibrahimovic, even though I have some questions about his character & desire. But...
And I just love cash+Boriello+Amoroso for Suazo and the 40 mill euros bid for Buffon+Ibrahimovic.
Buffon, Ibrahimovic, Diarra, Crespo, Suazo... Think we're moving in the right way.

Same goes for Gourcuff. That's his name, not 'Gorky'.
Call them by their proper names please, they're not some friggin' cartoon characters

'Gorky' in itself seems quite disrespectful IMO.

But isn't that what Gilardino can do ? That's what he did in the world cup, he got the ball, held onto it and laid it off for others expertly in the Germany game. Inzaghi can also do this, kind of. He makes it very awkward for a defender to get the ball off of him at times.

This kind of says to me why do we need to spend a big chunk of money on Ibrahimovich when they are younger players out there (tevez & torres (although he won't leave this summer)) who offer us something we don't have.

Someone's got their knickers in a twist. Lighten up for heaven's sake.

If that Suazo deal is true Graeme i'll be very happy.

"in terms of creativity and beauty" --- Italy has no creativity? What's Pirlo doing then? And where is the beautiful football that you are talkinga bout from Torres when he played against France or the 5-star brazilians?
1) "WC was surly one of the worst"

Well, we have only 147 goals in 64 matches, for an average of 2.30 per match. It's simply the WORST goal average of all times on a WC, dude! And since the raison d'être, the sole purpose, the alpha and the omega of football is to score goals, we can affirm the Germany 2006 was the WORST WC of all times!

2) "in terms of creativity and beauty"

One can talk about the eficiency, the objectivity, the lucidity and pragmatism of Italian football on the WC, but in terms of beauty and creative playing I see almost NOTHING - with the noble exception of the extra-time against Germany, when we finally were gifted with some daring, beautiful and offensive minded display of football.

3) "some abysmal punny side" by playing 1 striker

No matter if it's France, Barcelona or what else other side or national team you can name: playing with a single striker is to me the absolute NADIR of football. Barcelona still have a beautiful playing because Messi and Gaucho are wonderful players, not because of it's tatical settings.

4) "I don't give a damn for that"

Same answer of third item.
